Sometimes, you just need a good laugh. There are plenty of ways to get your daily dose of humor – including YouTube comedy channels, 5 Second Films, and humorous Tumblr blogs – but what about web games? They’re useful for more than just killing time over coffee breaks. Some are downright hilarious.
None of these games require anything more than a Flash-enabled browser and an open-minded sense of humor that isn’t afraid to laugh at the silly and the absurd. Take a deep breath and get your smiling muscles ready.
This is one of the funniest games I’ve ever played, both on and off the web. Beware that this isn’t funny in a “ha, that’s cute and refreshing” sort of way. Nope, not a chance. This is Cat Mario, a game whose title is just as deceptive as its gameplay.
If you’ve ever played Mario, then you’ll love this game. Or you’ll hate it to death. Or both.
Cat Mario deserves a spot in the category of “most frustrating games in the world,” but its frustration is so over the top that it tips into full-on hilarity. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and then you’ll silently accept defeat as you share the game with your friends, all so you can relish in their inevitable misery.
Don’t take my word for it. Give it a whirl and see how long you can last before chortling. It won’t take long, I promise.
Disclaimer: Though this game is absurdly humorous, Happy Wheels has graphic pixelated gore that may be off-putting to some people. If you don’t want to subject yourself to the gruesome and grotesque, consider skipping this one.
Have you ever played QWOP? You know, the popular Flash game where you take control of an Olympic runner who apparently suffers from a central nervous disease? The game that’s so infuriatingly funny that it will make you rage quit? Well, if you liked QWOP, then Happy Wheels is the spiritual successor you’ve been looking for.
This physics-based game has you driving a variety of vehicles – bikes, cars, jetpacks, wheelchairs, and even Segways – in a dash to the end of the level. The twist is two-fold: 1) vehicle controls aren’t exactly great, and 2) collisions and gravity can destroy your limbs. It sounds like a strange game, I know, but you’ll understand when you play it.
The best part of Happy Wheels is the “user-submitted levels” browser where you can play levels that other people have made. For the best experience, ignore the crappy maps by using the “Sort by Rating” feature.
“Every accomplishment I do is outweighed by the need to do more. And my mistakes never go away, they just glare at me forever, even though they’re small and meaningless. There’s not even points. It just gets harder to see and slower to get things done until finally you don’t want to go on.”

This quote is the first thing you see on the Futilitris web page. It stares at you, taunting you, waiting for you to play through this game so it can laugh at you. If you don’t know what the quote is trying to say, don’t worry. Give the game five minutes and you’ll understand it as clear as day.
Futilitris, which is a portmanteau of “futile” + “Tetris,” is exactly what it sounds like. I won’t ruin the surprise for you, but I guarantee you’ll have cracked a smile by the end.
Computer troubles getting in your way? Need to let off some steam? Then PC Breakdown is the perfect Flash game for you. We’ve all been in that place where the straw broke the camel’s back: your Internet is laggy, your computer is crashing, and nothing seems to be as it should.
You want to slam your computer into bits… but you can’t. Well, you can simulate the experience with this game. It’s equal parts funny and ludicrous. It doesn’t last very long before it loses its novelty, but you’ll get a good chuckle out of it. That’s all that matters in the end, right?
