3 Gamer Dating Sites For Finding Geeky Dates

Dating can be tough for those who are enthusiastic about video games. Even if we ignore the social stigma that surrounds “gamers” and “gamer culture”—which certainly doesn’t make finding a companion any easier—there’s still one big obstacle: game enthusiasts are a niche market.

But gamers deserve love too, and several sites have popped up over the years that can help gamers find romantic partners who also share a love for video games. If you’re in that boat, give these online dating networks a try and see how they work for you.

Note: Gamer-centric dating is extremely niche. As such, these sites are nowhere near the scale of mainstream alternatives like OkCupid or Tinder. So, realistically, they’re worth a shot but you should not expect immediate success.

Gaming Passions

The Passions Network is a large web of online dating sites, each one focused on a particular point of interest. Among the likes of Music Passions, Fashion Passions, and Pets Passions, there’s also Gaming Passions which aims to help gamers match up with other gamers in love and romance.

While the site looks straight out of the 1990s, it’s functional and suffices. Right away, without creating an account, you can perform a Quick Search to browse through potential matches based on age, location, and distance. That’s pretty convenient if you ask me.

But for best results, you should create your own account. It’s free and allows others to contact you if you match their criteria. Be sure to join various Groups, which are categorizations that highlight your gaming preferences. For example, if you join the Oculus Rift group and someone searches for Oculus Rift matches, you’ll be included in the results.

The site isn’t a wasteland. At any given moment, there are at least a few dozen other members online, which you can view using the Who’s Online feature.

LFGDating

LFGDating, which is named after the Looking For Group party-finding acronym that’s so common in MMORPGs these days, seems like a reputable service. It presents itself with a modern interface and a mission statement that’s unique enough to warrant your interest.

Creating an account is free. The initial process of setting up your profile will require about 10 to 15 minutes of your time, but it’s well worth it. First you fill out your physical details, followed by lifestyle descriptors (e.g. exercise, leisure, favorites), and ending with miscellaneous details regarding education and family.

Then, you go through the same exact process to describe your ideal match. Again, it’s worth taking the time to fill this out properly. Afterwards, LFGDating lists all members who fit your match criteria. There doesn’t seem to be a way to browse through or query the member database directly, but that isn’t really necessary with this system.

Free members can respond to received messages but cannot send them. Premium membership, which costs $5 per month, grants unlimited messaging capabilities. This helps to cut down on spamming and trolling.

Gamer Dating

Let’s start this one with a disclaimer: Gamer Dating hasn’t actually launched yet. It’s currently open for registration and you can edit your profile, but the whole “find a romantic partner” portion of it won’t launch until January 1, 2015.

As of now, the site has accumulated over 140,000 registrations and hopes to hit the 250,000 mark by the time it officially launches. This seems like a good idea in theory: rather than launching with a meager userbase that fails to build momentum, it can start with a lot of inertia right from the start. Will it work? We’ll have to wait and see.

At launch, Gamer Dating will offer 3 account tiers. The free package only lets you access the site and browse members while $35 grants 6 months of premium and $70 grants 12 months of premium. Premium accounts can send private messages, live chat, post comments on profiles, and earn a free game from Gamer Dating’s list of choices.

It’s hard to say whether this site will succeed, but January 1 isn’t too far away and it couldn’t hurt to give it a try. Keep an eye on it!

Where Do YOU Find Dates?

I’ll repeat it once more: dating can be tough for gamers. If you’re dead set on finding a partner who’s as enthusiastic about games as you are, then these sites may prove useful to you.

However, for better and faster results, you may want to try a few other online dating sites with broader appeal, particularly ones that target geeks, nerds, and intellectuals. For starters, consider looking into SoulGeek, Gk2Gk, and IntellectConnect.
