Video Games Starcraft 2 Strategy: The Basics

The basics. That is what everyone has always said to me. The basics or fundamentals are what makes you a great player. By mastering the basic concepts of a game is what propels you to superstar status. Apparently that may be true.

When playing starcraft 2, much less in other RTS game, the basics is what keeps you in the game. For example, if you are having a hard time managing your economy in the game, then the longer that game goes, the worse its going to be for you. Your minerals and vespene gas will either be too low to make a substantial army or will be too high due to bad macro and will be wasted while your looking at the defeat screen wondering why.

Another basic thing that goes overlooked would be scouting.

Is it really that hard?

Can you not even send a lowly worker to see what your opponent is up to?

How are you going to know what they are building much less sending your way?

If you don't know what's happening on the other side of the map then your always going to be playing a blind game. Maybe this is fine for you, but if you want to be more than a scrub then you better start getting an eye on your opponent. Send a worker into their base in the early game and get an idea of what's happening. What is your opponent opening up with? While your there why don't try a little harassment on their workers. Pulling one worker off the mineral line or pestering one building is worth the trouble and pays for itself in the end especially if you can kill one. Now I didn't say it would be easy just that it would be worth it. Since were on the harassing subject anyways I have to mention that it is also something that can go a long ways. Successfully harassing an opponent and slowing or even stopping their economy will give you an advantage that you will undoubtedly enjoy.

With all that being said, applying yourself to mastering the small things is what tends to separate the pro from the amateur. You'll never see a pro have a game where their macro was horrible from start to finish. You won't see them not scout much less not harass at every possible opportunity. Nor will you see them queue up units excessively. The pro's do it so why don't you? Answer that question and you may be on your way to more wins.

Well hopefully anyways.
