Wii Points

Wii Points

If you have been a consistent follower of the How To Find Wii Points articles then most likely you don't really need an explanation as to what Wii Points are. We don't need to get into how awesome the Nintendo Wii Channel is right now. You're probably sick of reading that at this point. So, in this article I'd like to speak about a few other items.

Some people out there may be among the group that feels like the old classic released from Nintendo during the early years should be released for free. They feel that spending over $250 on a console should be enough without having to spend extra money on games that were original on sale twenty years ago in some cases. Allow me to explain the rational in regards to why Nintendo choose to release the purchasing of their video games via the Wii Points system.

Obviously the games you know of from the past; classics like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and so forth; are no longer on the market unless you include Ebay or flea markets. Which means that Nintendo has a rather large cache they are sitting on. These video games were no longer available to the general public in legal ways so it makes perfect sense to re-release them in order to make money; given there is adequate interest, which there obviously is in abundance.

A little background to help the reasoning make more sense. Back in the good ole' days circa 1990 Nintendo was atop the world. Their original Nintendo Entertainment System was a revolutionary system that took the world by storm. With the release of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System they had cemented their place at the top of the video game world. In the upcoming years Nintendo released the N64 and Gamecube systems respectively and things began to slip a bit. These systems were quite good and there came along several excellent titles that are considered classics even now. Except for one issue; the competition got bigger.

Nintendo dropped from the number one spot for several years but with the recent release of the Nintendo Wii they are back on top. What a better time to begin reintroducing the public to their old favorites. But why make us pay for them? Why not allow anyone who purchases a system to download each game for free out of their goodness of their hearts? While they could do that, here are several reasons why the current Wii Points system is actually a good thing.

First, despite the average person enjoying getting things for free, face it, if you had the opportunity to make money from video games released twenty years ago through a system such as Wii Points then you would just at the chance. There is little cost to it and brings in a sizable amount that just helps the Nintendo company in the long run. Nintendo has been known for their main system releases at lower prices than their competition without losing quality. With this Wii Point titles supplementing them Nintendo can continue to do just that.

Along with Nintendo titles being released on the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel there are also a large selection of non-Nintendo video games. Titles released on Sega, Neo Geo and so on can be found when you spend your Wii Points. Video games that weren't even a part of Nintendo. They obviously bought the rights to these games and these even rarer titles are now out there for you to enjoy.

Finally, could there be a more convenient system. I'm sure you're already aware of the process that includes purchasing the Wii Points card from a store, scratching off the hidden password and proceeding to feed your Nintendo Wii the points used to buy these video games directly from Nintendo. It's an excellent system. Once downloaded these games are yours to enjoy as long as you want. Hours and hours of nostalgia are at your finger tips. The price isn't a lot. Most games are a mere $5. Nintendo are even beginning to release original titles on their Wii Points channel and they're getting some good reviews.

I am in no way affiliated with Nintendo. The only relationship I have with them is being a fan ever since I got my NES twenty years ago. I'm obviously not trying to sell you anything, just trying to spread the word on a system that has been years in the making. Take a look at Nintendo Wii Shop channel and try out some Wii Points.
