GTA Online has hit Xbox Live and PSN today, and if you’re lucky enough to maintain a secure connection to Rockstar’s servers then I’m sure you’re enjoying your time with it. Here are 5 simple tips to help improve your experience with GTA V’s online multiplayer.
Whether you start your own crew, or join someone else’s, being part of a crew pays. Why? Well, firstly being part of a crew means that you will have people to complete missions with and who will watch your back while roaming Los Santos. Secondly, and more importantly, you get extra bonus experience (or Reputation Points as Rockstar had named them.) I believe it’s 20% extra for every mission completed when you’re part of a crew.
There’s another, hidden bonus to being part of a crew. In order to form a crew, you will need to make a Rockstar Social Club account. In signing up to the Social Club, you get bonus GTA Online content. This includes a free Sawed-Off Shotgun and sports car, John Marston from Red Dead Redemption as your character’s father and more.
Believe me, you will want to heed this advice. By visiting an ATM, you can transfer all the money that your character has on them to their bank account. You might not think that this is particularly important, until you realize that another player in the same lobby as you can take everything from you. If they kill you and walk over your body, they can steal all of the money in your possession. The only way to get it back would be to exact revenge by killing them and taking it back.
You shouldn’t worry too much about not having money on you anyway, as all of the purchases I’ve made (so far at least) have come out of my bank rather than the cash I had on me at the time. This means that there’s really no excuse for not depositing your money regularly, especially after getting a significant amount of cash from a job or activity.
This tip is doubly helpful. Firstly, completing the basic missions will give you access to better, higher paying jobs. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to get your first place, from which you can plan heists. Heists are, if the single player campaign is anything to go on, the best way to get money. As we all know, money rules GTA Online. So complete main missions to unlock the ability to earn the big bucks.
Secondly, because completing the main missions that GTA Online has to offer is one of the best ways to earn a significant amount of money and Reputation Points quickly. Complete missions, get money, level up; rinse and repeat. There are other ways to get cash and RP, but weapons and upgrades for weapons, among other things, require high levels and lots of cash. If you read on, you’ll understand why getting these as early as possible is a good idea.
Weapons are a valuable commodity in GTA Online. They’re essentially a smart investment as they can be used to make more money quickly. Better weapons will make you more effective at killing enemies, not only during missions but also while free-roaming GTA’s large map. As mentioned above, by killing another player while in an online lobby, you can steal all the money that they have on them. Therefore, having a better gun that your opponent gives you a better chance of winning a gun fight and reaping the monetary rewards.
Finally, the last piece of advice I have is not to play GTA Online alone. Though you may not want to socialize, GTA Online is without a doubt better played with other people, as long as they aren’t shooting you in the head constantly. Imagine all the fun you have completing heists, massacring police and driving around Los Santos like a madman, multiply it by a large number, and you have the fun of GTA Online with friends.
