The Call of Duty series has always been built as a military shooter over the years and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is certainly no different.
However, what has quickly become a staple is the zombies mode from Treyarch made games in the series, which has now returned in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
Zombies is a very different style mode that is based on waves of enemies coming at you, though this depends on how much of the maps you have unlocked. This is something that always shakes up the Call of Duty formula and is another great addition here in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
This time around, zombies takes a lot of what has made up this mode in the past and expanded upon it with new features as well, so we thought we’d provide some tips for you as you play through the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
These will include some of the basic tips that you may already know if you’re a zombies veteran, but also some for newcomers that may just be jumping into zombies for the first time with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
The key in all Zombies modes in the past is still the same here in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, killing zombies and building barriers to keep them from overwhelming you. Building barriers is also the easier way to earn points that you can spend on new weapons or the opening of gates. Building these barriers is rather easy, by patching up a window or something with boards by simply holding down the corresponding button by it.
While it seems like you need to be facing this to build the barrier, you actually do not have to. As long as you have your back to it, you can do the same thing. So the best bet here is to make sure no one is coming from the other side of that barrier you are trying to put up. Turn around and then start building. By doing this, you can essentially protect yourself from all sides, as this can be one of the easier ways to quickly get overwhelmed by focusing on the barrier itself and not paying attention to the other directions.
The last thing you want to have happen during a zombie apocalypse is to run out of ammunition, so one of the most important things to do is keep your ammo supplies up in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. When you are even starting to run low, make sure to find one of the gun markings on the wall and either get a new gun or get ammo for an existing one. You can always fight back melee style against a zombie or two, but if you get overwhelmed and have no or little ammo, you likely aren’t going to survive.
Building upon the ammo topic, you can make your life a lot easier if you can get proficient enough with your weapons to consistently land headshots. This is something that is pretty much a part of every zombie related game, and that is no different here in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Rather than having to waste a lot more ammo on the zombies, you can knock them down much quicker. This will allow you to not only save money to acquire better weapons, rather than having to save more ammo, but it also will have you taking down enemies much more efficiently and quicker as well.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has made the big change to have Zombies mode completely separate from the rest. This includes its own XP progressions system, which plays into the ability to unlock and upgrade weapons that show up in the map. The biggest part here is the ability to add attachments to the weapons that can greatly help you in battle, so make sure you are definitely keeping up with these and improving the weapons you can acquire in the stages, which will gradually help you progress further and further.
One of the new additions to Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is what is known as Gobblegum. This item provide an array of different boosts for you in the game, depending on which you get. These are found around the map at little gumball machines, which sell them for 500 points.
Most of these are activated immediately, such as being able to walk faster when aiming, but there are also a few that have to be activated, such as one that allows you to be invisible to zombies for 10 seconds. Ones like this must be used wisely, so that they do not go to waste.
Similar to the weapon upgrades, players can unlock more Gobblegums and choose to put them in a 5 pack that you can get one of from purchasing them in the game itself at a Gobblegum machine.
Utilizing Beast form in the game definitely is something worth doing to clear out more enemies, as it makes you invulnerable for a short stretch of time. Here you can use a ranged electricity attack to shock enemies, with a grapple and melee ability to take out enemies.
When transformed into the Beast, you can also get past certain barriers that hold special items that can help you in your journey. Just be forewarned to not advance too far, as when the timer runs out, you will revert back to human form at the initial spot you transformed. So you cannot plan on making much progress in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Zombies mode with this Beast form alone.
If you want to truly survive in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Zombies mode, you will want to take your time. Taking things too quickly will likely lead to you getting overwhelmed way too fast. Opening gates is a big part of that, as once you open a gate to a new area, it just means there are even more zombies ready to attack you. As a result, it is wise to not even open the first gate until you have racked up a decent amount of points.
This first area is incredibly easy, with only the three barriers, so just keep going back and forth between the three and taking down zombies while rebuilding barriers to increase that total. Definitely get the new weapon available here and stock up on ammo and then you can finally move forward when everyone has a better weapon beyond just the pistol.
This is a recommendation for not only this first area, but the game as a whole as well. Just take your time and you will almost always survive longer than those that just go headfirst into new areas as soon as they can.
The last tip we have is something that really is almost more important than any other, teamwork. Obviously, if you are playing solo mode, this won’t matter in the least. However, where Zombies is the most fun is playing with friends either online or with offline split-screen multiplayer.
When playing with others, you must come up with strategies to have players man certain areas, help others earn points by splitting up the building of barriers, and then also evenly distributing found buffs and such on the map to where one person isn’t completely overpowered. A team that plays together will almost always make it further than one that has everyone flying solo and only thinking of themselves.
