Reaching the maximum rank for any of the three classes in Medal Of Honor will take time and dedication. You’ll need to collect points for kills during play, as well as any objectives you may complete. To help boost your level, follow these tips as suggestions to maximise your points per match.
A headshot will add an extra five points to your kill score, so always aim for the cranium to collect kills. Headshots will also mean you’re likely to defeat any assailant first in a firefight, so a wise tactic to utilise anyway. You’ll earn the same bonus for every other special kill too, but these aren’t possible to intentionally achieve, ranging from revenge to kill assists, and will help boost your score massively.
Well, do defend, just don’t do it where the zone suggests you do. Unlike Battlefield, you don’t earn extra points to your kills while in the defensive zone, instead you only score a bonus five points if the enemy is actually within the area – so pick a spot where you can easily get the jump on the attacking enemies and wait for them to come pouring in. Behind doors or on top of crates is usually the best method.
Some modes come kitted with a tank to help take out the enemy, and you will almost always want to jump in this. Don’t be the driver though, instead take the role of gunner on the side. This will give you increased protection from gunfire as well a healthy supply of extra points from the passenger kill assists. It won’t last long, a rocket will soon burst your metallic bubble, but the wealth of extra points will be much appreciated. Alternatively, if you see an enemy tank incoming consider switching to Spec Ops to have access to the rocket launcher. Bringing down a tank will reward you with at least 40 points.
You know how in modern shooters you’ve become trained to aim down the sights to take out your enemies more accurately? Yeah, forget that. Only bother with aiming down the barrel of your gun when you have the red dot sight and need to fire over great distances. If you have the luxury of not being noticed, use the sights, otherwise you should be firing from the hip at all times.
Unless you’re in for the long haul, you’ll want to concentrate on a single class. There are fifteen ranks to earn for each class, so spreading your time across the three will only slow your rise to the top tier. Try each class out to learn which of their abilities and weapons best suit you (and earn the improved scopes) before settling into your role of choice. As your rank increases, so too does the distance between each level up.
You’ll earn a massive 15 points for every objective taken, be it pushing an enemy back or disarming an enemies charge. You’ll even earn the bonus every time you plant a bomb, so if you’re feeling particularly greedy simply hang around for the enemy to come charging in, let them disarm it, then knife them in the gut and replant. Doing it this way will score you 30 points per kill.
After earning 50 points in a single life you’ll unlock your first support ability. Press right on the D-pad and you’ll activate the UAV, highlighting any nearby enemies on the minimap. This won’t actually earn you any extra points, but – as they say – knowledge is power, so being able to pinpoint every enemy before they approach you will be a massive boon to your kill/death ratio.
Offensive support abilities allow you to call in explosive barrages against enemies. You won’t earn extra points for using them, but calling in a rocket strike placement on top of a group of opponents hiding behind cover will instantly score you a bounty of points. If you want to be really cheap at the behest of your fellow gamers, locate the enemy spawn point and place a mortar at the mouth of their exit – cheap, easy points!
Sniping, as usual, is the way to dominate a match. In most cases the single shot rifles are one-shot kills, and at the relative safety of distance you should have no problems downing enemy after enemy. This is more true of the more open terrain maps, but if you can find a decent, unnoticeable (and high up) position in the city maps then you’ll easily earn those kills.
Anytime you collect a ribbon you’ll be rewarded with a heap of points. These mostly range between 10-15 points, but be the best player on either your team or the whole game and you’ll score a massive 30-50 extra to your total. Take a look at the Stats page to spot any ribbons you think will be possible for you on a round by round basis and work towards earning these every match. You’ll soon boost your score.
