Part one
Part two (Click here to skip to part two)
Final Fantasy XIII-2 starts in New Bodhum in the year 003 AF, which is also where this guide begins. Each area takes place in a different time and we have labelled each entry with the relevant year so you don’t get lost.
However, triggering certain events in the world will create alternate timelines that replace zeroes with ‘X’. For example, New Bodum 003 AF would become New Bodum XX3 AF and so on.
So if you follow our guide and find that you haven’t got all of the fragments in an area, fear not, as you will have to come back to some areas much later before being able to collect them all.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 can get a little confusing once you start opening up multiple timelines and alternate histories, but we’ve made this guide as easy to explain as possible.
There are 160 fragments to be found in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Some are dropped after defeating bosses, while others are earned by completing quests.
However, you will need to unlock new time eras to collect every fragment in the game, and this requires Wild Artefacts. Wild artefacts are invisible and can only be revealed by using Mog’s special Moogle Hunt ability.
Once revealed they can be picked up and used to unlock new time gates found within Final Fantasy XIII-2’s many time zones.
Note: Wild Artefacts do NOT count towards your fragment total, but you will need them to unlock every area in the game.
Collecting a fragment of any kind will also reward all party members with an amount of Crystogen Points (CP), which are used to level up Noel and Serah’s Paradigm roles. These rewards can be vast, so fragments are always worth seeking out.
Only by collecting all 160 fragments are you able to see everything that Final Fantasy XIII-2 has to show you, and of course, hit a coveted 100 per cent completion stat by the end of the game.
Read on to find out how to collect all 160 fragments, and be sure to check back as we update this guide on an ongoing basis. Happy hunting!
This is where Final Fantasy XIII-2 begins. After engaging in some dialogue with the members of NORA, Serah and Noel will help NORA repel an unexpected monster attack.
Gogmagog Fragment Alpha
While helping NORA battle the monsters you will encounter a mandatory boss fight with Gogmagog. Simply defeat him to earn the fragment Gogmagog Fragment Alpha – worth 500 CP.
Gogmagog Fragment Beta
After helping Serah catch her cat and retrieve her stolen necklace, Noel advises you to check out the Meteorite Impact Site. Gogmagog will appear once you arrive. Simply defeat him again to earn fragment Gogmagog Fragment Beta – worth 1,000 CP.
Graviton Core Alpha
After you unlock the Moogle Hunt ability in Bresha Ruins 005 AF, you can head back to New Bodum 003 AF and unlock this fragment. Head towards the Meteor Impact Site and follow the coastline until you reach the previously locked Tidal Shallows area.
You will need to collect five Graviton Cores to complete a quest much later – that takes place in Academia 4XX AF. Hope Estheim will ask you deliver five Graviton Cores hidden throughout time to his lab in this era. But you can grab them early to avoid doing it later.
To the left of the Tidal Shallows path you will see a raised metal hatch. The fragment is floating above the hatch. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal and collect Graviton Core Alpha – Worth 500 CP.
Heart Prism Fragment
After you unlock the Moogle Hunt ability in Bresha Ruins 005 AF, you can head back to New Bodum 003 AF and unlock this fragment. Head to the North East of New Bodum town square.
Find the civilian called Nell and speak with her to trigger the “Heart Prism” side quest. Nell will ask you to find her medical kit. Head towards the Meteor Impact Site, following the left path the entire time.
Before you reach the crater you will find an invisible, floating treasure box agains the cliff face. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal it and collect the medical kit. Return it to Nell to receive the Heart Prism Fragment – worth 50 CP.
Noel and Serah now travel two years into the future, and are quickly ambushed by a floating hand engulfed within a time paradox called Paradox Alpha. You can’t escape Paradox Alpha and must battle it before proceeding further.
Once Paradox Alpha has been defeated, Noel and Serah learn that it is actually Atlas, one of the key monsters from Final Fantasy XIII.
Wild Artefact
Shortly after the encounter with Atlas you will enter an area in the north called Echoes of the Past. Here you will find Chocolina and a Time Gate. Speak to the soldier near the gate to unlock the Moogle Hunt power, which reveals invisible objects hidden around the world.
Now that you have this skill, you will be able to find Wild Artefacts hidden in the world. After acquiring this skill, your first Wild Artefact is shown to you. Simply press R1/RT to use Moogle Hunt and collect Wild Artefact 1.
Unio Mystica
After picking up Wild Artefact 1, you can explore the Echoes of the Past area further and speak with soldiers walking around. There is a soldier walking around near Chocolina and the Time Gate who is looking for two missing capsules full of supplies. Accept the quest and start hunting for the capsules.
The first capsule can be found inside a floating treasure sphere. The sphere is invisible and can only be revealed using Moogle Hunt. You can find it in the West of the Echoes of the Past ruins, just before crossing a small bridge.
The second capsule is also in an invisible treasure sphere within the Echoes of the Past ruins. Walk over the bridge after grabbing the first sphere and take a left.
This will take you to the lower floor of Echoes of the Past, where you will find a watery cave, wooden walkways and another Time Gate.
Once there, check your map for the dead end branching off to the east. Run down this corridor and use Moogle Hunt to reveal the second treasure sphere.
The capsule is inside Beware of Tonberry encounters in this corridor – if you see one don’t fight it! Take both capsules back to the solider by Chocolina to earn the Unio Mystica – worth 100 CP.
Ghast Fragment
There is another soldier walking around the outdoor area of Echoes of the Past. He can be found near Chocolina and the Time Gate. The soldier explains that he has seen a dangerous Ghast monster roaming around the ruins.
Simply head to the top left point of the map and enter the square room you find there. The Ghast can be found there. Simply defeat him to earn the Ghast Fragment – Worth 600 CP.
Delicate Crystal Fragment
Now that these fragments have been found, you are ready to take on Atlas. Trigger the ‘Can We Control Atlas?’ quest and head to the north-most point of the map, within the Echoes of the Past ruins.
Head to the right and enter the room that houses a glowing control panel. Noel and Serah will be sucked into a Temporal Rift – a puzzle minigame that must be solved to resolve paradoxes in the world.
Simply complete the minigame to earn the Delicate Crystal Fragment – worth 200 CP. Once you return to the room, activate the device to control Atlas. You are now ready to battle Atlas in his weakened state.
Atlas Fragment
Head to the top right area of the map – which is called Lamentable Rest – to start your battle with Atlas. He is easy enough to defeat in this state, so the battle shouldn’t cause you too much trouble. Make sure you stock up on potions and Phoenix Down before the fight just in case. Defeat Atlas to earn the Atlas Fragment – worth 2,500 CP.
Once Atlas is defeated, approach the monument in this area to unlock the ability to ride Chocobos. You will need Chocobos to collect fragments and artefacts in this area, as well as other areas throughout Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Eclipse Artefact – Unlocks Yaschas Massif (010 AF)
This artefact is found hidden in the top right of the Lamentable Rest area. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the artefact. It can be used to unlock the time period Yaschas Massif 010 AF in the Historia Crux. Head to the Time Gate near Chocolina to use it.
Reunion Artefact – Unlocks Sunleth Waterscape (300 AF)
This artefact is found in the west of Echoes of the Past. It is hidden behind a cell door outside, next to the ramp leading up to the ruins. Simply use Moogle Hunt to reveal it. This artefact opens Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF in the Historia Crux.
Head to the Time Gate inside the lower floor of the ruins – the one on the wooden docks inside the watery cave – and use the artefact to unlock the new time zone.
Graviton Core Beta
Head back to where Chocolina and the Time Gate are found. Buy some Gyshal Greens from Chocolina and jump on the nearby Chocobo. Head south until you see a large set of steps leading back down to the starting area.
Bring up your map. You should be standing next to a dark area of the map that seems inaccessible. However, use the Chocobo’s jump ability to leap over the wall to the left of the steps. You will drop into the area. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal Graviton Core Beta – worth 500 CP.
Ars Symphonica
You can only collect this fragment after defeating Atlas and completing the Unio Mystica and Ghast Fragment side quests. Once you’ve done all three, head to the excavation site where Noel and Serah fought Paradox Alpha.
In the south of this area you will find a worker called Cordelia. She will give you the Ars Symphonica quest. Once the quest is active, simply head to the north west of this area – where the command centre is – and use Moogle Hunt to reveal a treasure box.
Collect the Personal Notes from the box and return them to Cordelia to earn the Ars Symphonica fragment – worth 100 CP.
Vita Lyrica
You can only collect this fragment after unlocking the Moogle Throw ability in Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF, so you should head there first before returning here.
After returning with the Moogle Throw ability, a new area will be unlocked to the west of the excavation site. Before heading over there, visit a soldier called Morris in the excavation site command room. Morris is looking for his lost Army Comm Device.
Simply head into the ruins to the west and follow the tunnel until it bends to the left. Use the Moogle Hunt ability in the corner to reveal a floating treasure sphere. The Army Comm Device is inside. Return it to Morris to earn the Vita Lyrica Fragment – Worth 200 CP.
Anima Miseria
Unlock the Bresha Ruins 300 AF time period before attempting this fragment. In Bresha Ruins 005 AF, head back to the Lamentable Rest area where you defeated Atlas and speak to a solider called Jed. He can be found looking at some plant life.
Jed needs a plant called Silver Petal that only blooms in Bresha Ruins during the winter. Luckily for you, Bresha Ruins 300 AF takes place in the winter. Simply head to Bresha Ruins 300 AF and head to Lamentable Rest to grab the Silver Petal.
Use the Historia Crux to return to Bresha Ruins 005 AF and give Jed the Silver Petal to earn the Anima Miseria Fragment – worth 200 CP.
“Transcript: A Giant Mistake” Fragment
Return to the Historia Crux and close the Bresha Ruins 005 AF time gate using the Scars Gate Seal found in Yaschs Massif 010 AF. This will reverse the events you caused there, resurrecting Atlas.
To earn this fragment, you must defeat Atlas without first weakening him using the control device found in the ruins.
This is incredibly difficult and should only be attempted later on in the game when Noel, Serah and the monsters in your party are levelled up as much as possible.
If you manage to defeat Atlas in his full state, you will earn the “Transcript: A Giant Mistake” Fragment – worth 11,000 CP and a massive round of applause for your efforts. Seriously, this isn’t easy.
Noel and Serah now travel to a research site in the wilds of Yaschas Massif. There they find an aged Hope Estheim who is working for research group The Academy.
Hope is looking to unlock the secrets of some nearby ruins, and prevent a future cataclysm. After speaking with Hope you can free roam the area in search of fragments and artifacts.
Pathos Jewel
You will need to unlock the Moogle Throw ability in Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF before attempting to collect this fragment. After speaking with Hope, run down the ramps to the courtyard and head to the big statue to the west.
Climb the ramps surrounding the statue until you reach its head. There is a an invisible floating trasure box in front of its mouth. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal it, then Moogle Throw to have Mog collect the Pathos Jewel – worth 300 CP.
Hollow Artefact – Unlocks Oerba 200 AF
This is a mandatory artefact that you gain automatically during the plot. After speaking with Hope and Alyssa at the start of this area, you can then speak to the guard next to them.
He will grant you entry to the Yaschas Massif ruins. You will then follow Hope up to his command centre at the top of the ruins. After a story cutscene, Hope will give you the Hollow Artefact.
Misery’s Bead
After receiving the Hollow Artefact head to the north-most Chocolina, just at the entrance to the excavation site. Keep heading south until you come across a worker called Brenda.
Brenda needs a Behemoth Fang, and you can find one by defeating a Feral Behemoth. You will find the Feral Behemoth in the centre of plains of Yaschas Massif.
It’s the big field with all of the searchlights. And cracks in the ground. Be wary of the Feral Behemoth’s big attacks. Level up a little if you feel it will help.
We recommend going to Oerba 200 AF for a while to level up, as it’s a great place to acquire Crystogen Points early on. Once you have defeated the Feral Behemoth, take the Behemoth Fang back to Brenda to earn the Misery’s Bead Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Amur’s Sphere
Before attempting this quest, you will need the Moogle Throw ability unlocked in Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF. You must also first unlock the Yachas Massif 01X AF era in the Historia Crux by finding the Artefact of Origins in Oerba 200 AF. Skip to the Oerba 200 AF section of this guide to find out how to do this.
To get Amur’s Sphere head to Yaschas Massif 010 AF and head to the furthest north area called Paddrean Archaeopolis – where Hope and Alyssa are standing.
Cole is usually walking or standing at the bottom of the ramp that leads up to Hope and Alyssa. Speak to Cole to trigger this quest. He is looking for an old battery that can only be found in Yaschas Massif 01X AF.
Head there now and journey to the excavation site again. You will see stacks of crates littered around the command centre where Hope and Alyssa are usually found.
Behind these crates hides an out of reach treasure box. Use Moogle Throw to open the box and collect the Old Battery. Return it to Cole in Yachas Massif 010 AF to earn the Amur’s Sphere Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Innocence’s Sacred Sphere
First, you will need to unlock the Yaschas Massif 110 AF era in the Historia Crux. You can do this by finding a wild fragment in Bresha Ruins 005 AF and then a wild fragment in Bresha Ruins 300 AF.
In Yaschas Massif 010 AF, head to the Paddraean Archaeopolis and speak to Shannon near the giant statue in the north-west. Shannon is looking for her lost watch.
Head to Yaschas Massif 110 AF then journey to the big field in the Pass of Padra area. In the most northern tip of the field, you will see a canyon stretching out into the distance.
There is an invisible treasure box floating in the crevice. Use Moogle Hunt, then Moogle Throw to hae Mog open the box and collect the Outdoor Watch item.
Return to Yaschas Massif 010 AF and return it to Shannon to earn the Innocence’s Sacred Sphere Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Noel and Serah travel to the desolate coastal ruins of Oerba, located on Gran Pulse. Here they find an old enemy waiting to strike. This is also a superb area for leveling up, particularly the stone walkways and steps near the beach.
Giant Egg
This is an easy fragment to find. As soon as you arrive in Oerba 200 AF, turn around and look to the left of the Time Gate. You will see an invisible floating treasure box. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the box. Open it to earn the Giant Egg Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Time’s Stardust Fragment
This fragment is mandatory so you absolutely cannot miss it. Head north from the Time Gate until yeah reach a blurred morphing time paradox. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal another temporal rift puzzle. Enter the rift and complete the puzzle to earn the Time’s Stardust Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Time’s Shell Fragment
This fragment is mandatory so you absolutely cannot miss it. After completing the Time’s Stardust temporal rift, you will unlock a new portion of the Oerba map.
Heard north until you find Chocolina. Stock up on supplies here and level up a bit, as the Crystogen Point rewards are huge.
Once you’re done, head north again until you reach another time paradox. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the second Temportal Rift puzzle. Enter the anomaly and complete puzzle to earn Time’s Shell Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Time’s Coral Fragment
This fragment is mandatory so you absolutely cannot miss it. The third and final Temporal Rift puzzle can be found to the north again. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal it, step inside and complete the puzzle to earn Time’s Coral Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Graviton Core Gamma
You will need to collect five Graviton Cores to complete a quest much later – that takes place in Academia 4XX AF. Hope Estheim will ask you deliver five Graviton Cores hidden throughout time to his lab in this era. But you can grab them early to avoid doing it later.
Head to the Village Proper area in the centre of the map – where both Chocolina and a Chocobo can be found. You will notice a tall building next to where Chocolina is standing.
Jump on the Chocobo and ride it up the ramp found to the north of Chocolina. The ramp will take you opposite the roof of the tall building. Use the Chocobo’s jump ability to glide over to the roof, then use the Moogle Hunt ability here to reveal Graviton Core Gamma – worth 500 CP.
Artefact of Origins – Unlocks Yaschas Massif 01X AF
This artefact is mandatory and cannot be missed. Once you are finished in this time period, head to the top right corner of the map. Enter the schoolhouse and climb up to the roof.
After a brief cutscene, you will then trigger a battle against Caius. Defeat Caius to earn the Artefact of Origins. Enter the Time Gate on the roof to unlock Yaschs Massif 01X AF in the Historia Crux.
“Transcript: Vanille’s Truth” Fragment – BEWARE SPOILERS!
This fragment can only be earned after you complete the main plot, so if you hate spoilers, skip this section for now. Obtaining this fragment requires the Paradox Scope item, which can be turned on in the Fragment Skills menu.
Switch it on and head to the Historia Crux menu. Find Oerba 200 AF on the menu and close the time gate using the Ecounters Gate Seal found in Yaschas Massif 01X AF. To learn how to obtain this Gate Seal, head to the Yaschas Massif 01X AF section of this guide.
Once the gate is closed, head back to Oerba 200 AF and revisit the old schoolhouse in the top-left of the map. This will trigger another fight with Caius as before, but this time he is insanely powerful.
The key to winning this battle is smart use of Paradigms, switching in and out of different roles to reduce damage and exploit every possible window of attack.
With a little luck and smart strategy, you will defeat Caius. Once Caius falls, return to the Historia Crux and enter the Oerba ??? AF time gate to receive the “Transcript: Vanille’s Truth” Fragment – worth a whopping 10,000 CP
Noel and Serah travel to an alternate version of Yaschas Massif. This area doesn’t offer many fragments, and most of the monsters are defeated easily.
Mysterious Artefact – Unlocks The Void Beyond ??? AF
After speaking with Hope in the Paddraean Archaeopolis area, walk up the ramps to reach his command centre. Keep on head up the ramps as far as you can go, and you will find an invisible artefact.
Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the object to collect Mysterious Artefact. This artefact will unlock the mysterious Void Beyond ??? AF area in the Historia Crux.
Orb of Clotho
After speaking with Hope, search for Marlow in the Paddraean Archaeopolis. Marlow will explain that he needs a stone tablet. You can find this back in Yaschas Masif 010 AF. Chances are you might have picked this up already.
If not, return to Yascha Massif 010 AF in the Historia Crux. Head to the big field with all of the searchlights in the Pass of Padra area, the stone tablet can be found in an invisible treasure box. The box is floating in a recess on the right hand wall, near a floating treasure sphere.
Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the box and collect the Tablet of Paddra. Head back to Yaschas Massif 01X AF and return the tablet to Marlow to receive the Orb of Clotho Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Swords of Lachesis
After speaking with Hope, get on the nearest Chocobo and head south. Take the first right down to where the Pass of Padra field is. Keep an eye out for a raised platform on the left, just before you enter the wide field.
If you stand up the ramp a little and use the Chocobo’s jump and glide ability, you can land on the raised platform. You will find an excavation worker called Bridget standing there.
Bridget is looking for the Fruit of Fenrir, a plant that only grows during an eclipse. Luckily, the Yaschas Massif 010 AF area is engulfed in an eclipse.
Chances are, you might already have picked this item up earlier in the game. If not, head back to Yaschas Massif 010 AF in the Historia Crux and return to the same raised area using a Chocobo.
The Fruit of Fenrir can be found in a floating treasure box on the raised platform. If you don’t have enough Gyshal Greens to ride a Chocobo, you can use Moogle Throw to grab the box instead.
Once you have the fruit, return it to Bridget in Yaschas Massif 01X AF to earn the Sword of Lachesis Fragment – Worth 300 CP.
Mirror of Atropos
You will need the Moogle Throw ability – which is unlocked in Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF – before attempting this fragment. Find an excavation worker called Lester in the Paddraean Arhaeopolis area.
Lester is looking for three falling stars, which can all be found in the Pass of Padra area of Yaschas Massif 01X AF. First, head as far south as the map will allow, right down to the Time Gate at the bottom of the map.
Head back the way you came, but this time take the first left. The Ivory Crystal can be found in a floating treasure box underneath the metal bridge. Next, head north and take the path on the right rather than crossing the bridge.
At the end of this path you will see a blocked off route to the right. Before the blockade, examine the wall on the left of the path. You will see an invisible floating treasure box floating near some piles of rubble.
Inside you will find the Onyx Crystal. The final ‘star’ can be found in a crater, right in the middle of the Pass of Paddra field. The crater you’re looking for is right in front of the western time gate.
Use Moogle Throw to have Mog collect the Emerald Crystal from a floating treasure box. Return all three to Lester to earn the Mirror of Atropos Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Gorgyra Fragment
Collecting this fragment requires you to beat an insanely tough monster. Your best bet is to make note of this fragment and return to it much later in the game.
To trigger the quest, speak to an excavation worker called Duncan in the Paddraean Archaeopolis. He is usually standing or walking around the ramp that leads up to Hope.
Once the quest is active, head to the bottom left corner of the Pass of Paddra area to reveal Gorgyra – a powerful and ruthless Cie’th monster. Gorgyra is brutal as he will inflict a wide range of status effects on Noel and Serah, so make sure you have a strong Synergist in your party.
Once you manage to defeat Gorgyra, you will earn the Gorgyra Fragment – worth 500 CP.
You must visit this area to unlock the Moogle Throw ability. This is used to collect out of reach objects, such as treasure spheres or most importantly, fragments and artefacts.
To access Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF, you must use a wild artefact on the Time Gate found in the west of Bresha Ruins 005 AF. The Time Gate is in the lower area of the Echoes of the Past ruins.
Wild Artefact
Once you enter this time period, you will battle a giant mutated Flan called Royal Ripeness. Once you defeat him, Noel and Serah will team up with Snow. He can’t be controlled, but he’s very tough.
After the battle, head south until you reach hthe Forest Crossroads area. Here you will find Chocolina and another Time Gate. Head south until you trigger a cutscene, in which the group jump on the back of a giant monster.
The monster will start to walk south. As it walks, keep looking at the eastern wall. Look closely and you will see a floating artefact. Use Moogle Throw to hurl Mog at the artefact and collect it.
Combat Artefact – Unlocks Coliseum ??? AF
Keep heading south – as far south as the map can possibly go – to encounter a group of Miniflans. Defeat them in battle to receive the Combat artefact. Use this on the Bow Isle Time Gate to unlock Coliseum ??? AF in the Historia Crux.
Extraordinary Egg Fragment
Head to the Forest Crossroads area near the centre of the map – where Chocolina and the Time Gate can be found – and head east. You will eventually reach an area called Overgrown Forest.
You will come across a high ledge with a dangling vine in front of it. Swing on the vine to reach the other side. Now double back on yourself and head down into the low area.
Head west until you reach the end of the current path, and you will see the floating fragment on your right. Use Moogle Throw to have Mog collect the Extraordinary Egg Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Thundering Artefact – Unlocks Archylte Steppe ??? AF
Go as far east as the map will go until you encounter a group of Miniflans in the Overgrown Forest area. Defeat them in battle to earn the Thundering Artefact.
This artefact can only be used on the Base of Crystal Time Gate – which is found at the north-most point of the map. This gate will open the Archylte Steppe ??? AF time period in the Historia Crux, which is by far the largest area in Final Fantasy XIII-2.
You must also travel to Archylte Steppe ??? AF before fighting Mutantomato. Head there now before attempting the rest of the fragments and artefacts in Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF.
Mutantomato Fragment
Obtaining this fragment demands that you first defeat Mutantomato – the advanced version of Royal Ripeness in the Assembly Area.
However, you can only do this once you have visited Archlyte Steppe ??? AF and collected the Black Hole Gem by defeating the monster Faeryl.
Once you have the Black Hole Gem, return to Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF to battle Mutantomato in its weakened state. Beat the monster to earn the Mutantomao Fragment – worth 3,500 CP.
Mysterious Artefact – Unlocks Academia 400 AF
After you have defeated Mutantomato, return to the Assembly Area where you fought him. You will find the Mysterious Artefact hovering to the east of the Assembly Area, just out of reach.
Use Moogle Throw to grab it, then head back to the Forest Crossroads then use the artefact on the Time Gate to the west to unlock Academia 400 AF in the Historia Crux.
“Transcript: Mog’s Marvelous Flan Plan”
This fragment should only be attempted once the main story is completed, or you are confident your team has achieved a high level and has powerful abilities, as you will be required to defeat a considerably difficult boss.
Head to the Historia Crux and close the Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF gate, effectively reversing everything you have done there, and resurrecting the Royal Ripeness boss.
Enter the gate and take Royal Ripeness head on without weakening him with the Black Hole Gem found in Archlyte Steppe ??? AF. It’s a tough battle, but you should be leveled up enough that it becomes manageable.
Defeat Royal Ripeness to earn the “Transcript: Mog’s Marvelous Flan Plan” Fragment – worth 10,000 CP, as well as a Paradox Ending.
To access Coliseum ??? AF, you must first collect the Combat Artefact from Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF. This is a mandatory artefact that is tied to the plot and absolutely cannot be missed.
Use the Combat Artefact on the Bow Isle Gate – found in the bottom left of the Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF map – to unlock Coliseum ??? AF.
White Hole Gem Fragment
This fragment is mandatory and absolutely cannot be missed. Once you enter the Coliseum, a cutscene will begin, and the Arbiter of Time will speak with Noel and Serah. Complete the dialogue with him to unlock the White Hole Gem Fragment – worth 300 CP.
This is one of the largest areas in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Collecting fragments in this time period depends on seeking out certain monsters, activating Cactaur stones and changing the weather using a weather machine at the top of the Nomad Camp.
Goblin Fragment
After entering Archylte Steppe ??? AF, head north until you reach the Nomad Camp. Head to the top of the main building and speak with the camp leader Tipur twice to activate the Goblin Fragment Quest.
Head south into the Archylte Steppe field – also known as the Plains of Eternity – and head south east towards the waypoint marker on your map. Once you reach your destination, a pack of Goblins will appear. Simply win the battle to earn Goblin Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Crimson Crystal Fragment
Across the Archylte Steppe map, you will come across red Cactaur statues. Touching these stones will transpor you back to the Nomad Camp, which is a great way of saving time. Although, as Archylte Steppe is a great place to level up, we recommend you walk everywhere and engage in each fight.
Every time you find and use a red Cactaur statue, you will earn a new fragment and a Crystogen Point bonus. So you should use them all at least once.
The first can be found directly south of the Nomad Camp, in the middle of the grassy field. Touch the stone to be transported back to the Nomad Camp, and earn the Crimson Crystal Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Wooly Stone Fragment
After you have been transported back to the Nomad Camp by the red Cactuar statue, speak with Myta. She is usually standing next to, or near where you teleport after using a red Cactuar statue.
Myta explains that she needs three different types of wool from sheep roaming the Plains of Eternity. You can tell which sheep you can interact with as they hve floating speech bubbles over their head.
All three sheep can be found in the grassy field right in front of the Nomad Camp, so you won’t have to walk far to get them.
Return all three types of wool – rough, thick and fluffy – to Myta to earn the Wooly Stone Fragment – worth 300 CP.
Black Hole Gem Fragment
You must obtain this fragment before heading back to Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF and defeating Mutantomato. Once you have this fragment, Mutantomato will grow weak and can be easily dispatched. Taking him on without it at this early stage is suicide.
In Archylte Steppe ??? AF, head back to the Nomad Camp and speak with Myta. She will explain that the Nomads can control the Steppe’s weather using a weather-controlling device.
You can flick between sunny, stormy, misty and rainy weather. Each of the four weather types will change what monsters you fight on the Steppe, so bear this in mind when seeking out specific beasts.
Myta will ask you to change the weather to sunny, and this makes a massive Long Gui beast appear in the east, which blocks the bearer of the Black Hole Gem Fragment – a monster called Faeryl.
Speak to Tipur again. He explains that the Long Gui is simply too powerful to beat at this stage, so change the weather to stormy to make it move out of the way, giving you access to Faeryl.
Head over to the east to engage Faeryl in combat. Defeat Faeryl to earn the Black Hole Gem Fragment – worth 3,500 CP. You can now challenge Mutantomato in Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF without fear of being defeated.
Cactuar statue weather requirements
The next fragments are obtained by interacting with Cactuar statues found in the Archylte Steppe. Some of them will only be visible during certain weather conditions. YOu can use the weather machine in the Nomad Camp to change the conditions required for collecting each fragment:
Azure Crystal Fragment (Any weather type)
Note: To obtain the Azure Crystal, you must find another red Cactuar statue and use it to teleport back to the Nomad Camp. Simply finding the statue is not enough, as you will only receive the fragment upon arriving back at camp.
This red Cactuar statue is found in the bottom right of the map, within the Grave Ridge area of Archylte Steppe.
You will find it sitting behind a giant stone Cactuar. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the statue and use it to earn the Azure Crystal – worth 300 CP.
Forest Crystal (Weather must be cloudy)
To obtain the Forest Crystal, you must find and use a yellow Cactuar statue. This statue is key to finding every fragment in Archylte Steppe as it transports you to the Clearwater Marshes area. This area is inaccessible until you unlock Chocobos in this time period much later.
First, make the weather cloudy by using the weather machine in the Nomad Camp. Next, locate the wild fragment gate in the extreme south, then head directly west as far as you can go. The yellow Cactuar statue can be found by using Moogle Hunt on the lip of the trench, next to a bridge made of debris.
Once the statue is revealed, use it to teleport to Clearwater Marshes, earning you the Forest Crystal – worth 300 CP. Once in this new area, you can hunt down the two remaining red Cactuar statues.
Violet Crystal (Weather must be stormy)
Note: To obtain the Violet Crystal, you must find another red Cactuar statue and use it to teleport back to the Nomad Camp. Simply finding the statue is not enough, as you will only receive the fragment upon arriving back at camp.
First, turn the weather to stormy using the weather device in the Nomad Camp. Next, use the yellow Cactuar statue to head back to Clearwater Marshes. The final red Cactuar statue is located in the bottom left of the marshes area, just before you reach the cliff edge. Use the statue to return to the Nomad Camp, earning you the Violet Crystal – worth 300 CP.
Amber Crystal (Any weather type)
Note: To obtain the Amber Crystal, you must find another red Cactuar statue and use it to teleport back to the Nomad Camp. Simply finding the statue is not enough, as you will only receive the fragment upon arriving back at camp.
Once in Clearwater Marshes, head to the north west of the area. You will find another invisible Cactuar statue in the water. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the statue, and use it to teleport back to Nomad Camp, earning you the Amber Crystal – worth 300 CP.
Wild Artefact
Head back to the Clearwater Marshes by using the yellow Cactuar statue. Head as far west as you can go until you are overlooking the cliff edge. Tilt the camera down to reveal a small ledge below. The Wild Artefact can be found hovering on the ledge. Use Moogle Throw to hurl Mog and collect the Wild Artefact.
Ochu Fragment
Before you can attempt this fragment, you must first break the seal surrounding the time gate in the south of Archylte Steppe ??? AF. To break the seal, you must first find three green Gigantuar statues.
The first statue is found in the middle of the Stonestump Wastelands area of the Steppe, among a patch of cactus plants. It is clearly visible without Moogle Hunt. Touch the statue to spawn a Gigantaur then engage it in battle.
Win the fight to break one third of the gate seal. Next, head to the yellow Cactuar statue in the south and touch it to teleport to the Clearwater Marshes area of the Steppe.
Once there, head to the top right corner of the area – on the lip of the trench – to find an invisible statue. Use Moogle Hunt to spawn another Gigantuar and defeat it in battle. The final Cactuar statue is easy to find.
Head to the middle of the lake and you will find an invisible Cactuar statue. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the statue and defeat the Gigantaur to fully break the seal around the southern Time Gate.
Head back to the Nomad Camp and speak with the hunter standing around the Chocobo enclosure. This will unlock Chocobos in this area, as well as the Ochu Fragment quest.
Exit to the Historia Crux and head back to Archylte Steppe – this opens up new dialogue options with Tipur in the Nomad Camp. Speak with Tipur and he will ask you to hunt down and defeat Ochu.
Ochu will only appear in the Clearwater Marshes area if the weather is rainy, so use the Nomad Camp weather device to induce rain and head to the waypoint to start the battle.
Defeat Ochu to earn the Ochu Fragment – worth 30,000 CP. Beware of a strong, challenging fight however. We recommend trying this battle after leveling up for quite some time. You can also repeat this fight as many times as you like to farm CP.
Fragment of Invincibility (Weather must be cloudy)
Once you have activated all three green Cactuar statues and unlocked Chocobos in Archylte Steppe, speak with Myta in the Nomad Camp. She will ask you to hunt down the beast known as Immortal.
Use the weather device to change the skies cloudy and head to the waypoint in Stonestump Wastelands to begin your battle. Immortal is a tough beast, so it is recommended to level up a lot before attempting this battle.
Once defeated, Immortal will drop the Fragment of Invincibility – worth a whopping 30,000 CP.
Long Gui Fragment
This is another massive battle that will require you to level up considerably before you try it. We recommend at least finishing the main story arc before coming back to finish the Long Gui off.
Head to the Nomad Camp and change the weather to sunny. The Long Gui will appear in the south – it’s massive so you can’t miss it! Touch it to start the battle. Defeat Long Gui to earn the Long Gui Fragment – worth 30,000 CP.
Yomi Fragment – Weather must be stormy
The final fragment of Archylte Steppe can be found by defeating the ruthless monster Yomi. You must first defeat Ochu, unlock Chocobos in the area, then leave and re-enter the Historia Crux before attempting this quest.
Speak with Tipur in the Nomad Camp to make Yomi’s location appear on the map. Hop on a Chocobo and head the far south of the map. Once you reach the Grave Ridge area, you must use the Chocobo’s jump ability to glide over to the waypoint.
Yomi will attack your party as soon as you land, triggering the battle. Like Long Gui before it, we recommend only fighting Yomi once you have completed the main quest, or when both Noel and Serah have in excess of 5,000 HP each – at least!
Fight smart and you should see Yomi packing after a long battle. Once he is defeated you will earn 20,000 CP for winning the battle alone, and then the Yomi Fragment – worth an additional 30,000 CP.
To access August Tower 300 AF, you must use a wild artefact on the western time gate found in Yaschas Massif 01XF. This will unlock Augusta Tower in the the Historia Crux.
Entropy Board
Augusta Tower is a giant puzzle in that you must activate switches to create a path through the maze of rooms and moving walkways. As you proceed through each area of the tower, the AI controlling the tower will read out a series of numbers.
Write down or memorise the numbers as they are read out. Before you reach the end of the Augusta Tower 300 AF plot, you will encounter a computer screen that asks you a question.
The correct answer is the sequence of numbers that the AI has been reading out. Get the answer right and you will be granted the Access Key 50 item – which is used in Augusta Tower 200 AF – and the Entropy Board Fragment – worth 500 CP. Don’t worry if you get this wrong, you can attempt the question as many times as you like.
Noel and Serah travel to a futuristic metropolis build by the Academy, but find it under siege from Cie’th monsters. You won’t have much room to explore the first time you visit Academia 400 AF but once you follow the story and defeat the boss you can return to grab all of the fragments.
Zenobia Fragment / Tower Artefact – Unlocks Augusta Tower 200 AF
After battling your way through the streets of Academia 400 AF, you will eventually fight a boss monster called Zenobia. This battle is mandatory and linked to the plot, so you can’t miss it.
Once you destroy Zenobia you will earn both the Tower Artefact and the Zenobia Fragment – worth 6,000 CP. Head to the waypoint that appears on your map to use the Tower Fragment on the Augusta Tower 200 AF Time Gate.
Graviton Core Delta
You will need to collect five Graviton Cores to complete a quest much later – that takes place in Academia 4XX AF. Hope Estheim will ask you deliver five Graviton Cores hidden throughout time to his lab in this era. But you can grab them early to avoid doing it later.
Graviton Core Delta can be found in the far west of Academia 400 AF, in the area known as New Town. Open your map and locate the Chocolina in this area. The Graviton Core is found directly north of her location, up a long, thin alleyway.
Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the core, and collect it to earn the Graviton Core Delta Fragment – worth 500 CP.
Academic Rank: Paradox Professor Fragment
This is a massive quest that is best completed after you finish the main plot. Open your map and look to the bottom right – in the ‘Alley’ area – and locate Chocolina. Head over to her and walk south until you find a worker called Miss Horizon.
Miss Horizon is usually standing in front of a glowing computer terminal. She will ask you to return to her with completed maps from across the world of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Every time you explore 100 per cent of a map, return to Miss Horizon to earn a fragment for each location. Please note, that you do not get a fragment for the same area in different time period (e.g. discovering all of Academia in two time zones will bag you one fragment, not two)
Once you have fully discovered 100 per cent of all locations listed below, and spoken with Miss Horizon, she will award you with the rank of Paradox Professor, and give you the Academic Rank: Paradox Professor Fragment – worth 1,500 CP.
Here is a list of possible fragments that can be collected by discovering 100 percent of each location:
This magical theme park houses slot machines and a Chocobo race stadium. Noel and Serah can train up any Chocobos they recruit to their team and enlsit them in races to earn casino coins and other valuables.
Wild Artefact
The Serendipity artefact can be bought from any casino shop for a whopping total of 10,000 casino coins. It doesn’t sound like much, but it will take you a long time to save these up unless you win a lot of Chocobo races or get lucky on the slot machine.
To help speed things up you can cash in any Platinum or Gold Casino Tickets you have found during your quest in exchange for casino coins, or you can spend Gil on increasing your balance.
1,000 casino coins will cost you 10,000 Gil, so if you feel you can easily make and lose 100,000 gil on obtaining this fragment, then this is your quickest method.
Otherwise, you can acquire a Golden Chocobo from A Dying World 700 AF. Golden Chocobos are the fastest breed in the game, and will increase you chances of winning casino coins from races.
The Golden Chocobo can be found within an invisible treasure sphere hidden in A Dying World 700 AF. After defeating the boss in this time period, you will journey to New Bodhum 700 AF, complete the story there and return to A Dying World 700 AF.
You are now free to fully explore and seek out the Golden Chocobo. Head to the zone in the middle of the map – called The Dead Sands. Open your map and locate the Chocolina in the far north, just below where you fought Gogmagog.
To the south west of Chocolina you will notice a bridge that crosses from The Dead Sands into the Black Sands. To the north of the bridge you will notice a small outcrop that houses an invisible treasure box. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the box and open it to earn the Golden Chocobo.
Level up the Golden Chocobo as much as you can then enlist it in the Serendipty Chocobo races to start winning casino coins. Once you have 10,000, cash them in at a vendor to earn the Wild Fragment.
Chocochick Down Fragment
Head into the Serendipity Chocobo Racing arena. Look to the left of the room as you enter and you will see a baby Chocobo chick standing on a wall. Interact with it to earn the Chocochick Down Fragment – worth 500 CP.
Lucky Coin Fragment
This fragment can take you many hours to unlock, but it is unfortunately essential to achieve 100 per cent completion. To win the Lucky Coin Fragment you must earn 7,777 casino coins from the Serendipity slot machine.
Thankfully, this is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to do it in one sitting, although you can gauge how well the machine is paying out by speaking to the hostess next to it.
If she says “It’s like a hot summer’s day!” that means the machine will pay out more than usual. Basically, the hotter the statement, the more likely you are to win lots of casino coins.
The worst phrase is “Oh dear, someone’s not a happy camper!” If the hostess says this, just leave the casino hall and re-enter to change what she says and improve your chances of winning. Once you earn 7,777 coins you will receive the Lucky Coin Fragment – worth 1,000 CP.
Setzer’s Dice Fragment
Veteran Final Fantasy fans will recognize this item from Final Fantasy VI. The Setzer’s Dice Fragment can be bought from any casino vendor for a whopping 10,000 casino coins.
We recommend using the Bargain Hunter fragment skill to lower the price a little. Once you have enough coins, make your purchase to earn the Setzer’s Dice Fragment – worth 1,500 CP.
Priceless Gift Fragment
To earn this fragment, simply buy the “Just 1 Gil” item from any casino vendor for 9,800 casino coins. You will then earn the Priceless Gift Fragment – Worth 800 CP.
Chaos Crystal Fragment
You can buy the Chaos Crystal from any casino vendor for 10,000 casino coins, earning you the Chaos Crystal Fragment – worth 500 CP.
This future version of Bresha Ruins takes place in winter, and is populated by an increased volume of monsters when compared to Bresha Ruins 005 AF. The golden rule for survival here is: If you see a Tonberry, run!
Iridium Ring Fragment / Wild Artefact
After you spawn in this time period, head north to the Lamentable Rest area where you fought Atlas in Bresha Ruins 005 AF. In the top right of the area you will find an invisible outline of a man called Lex.
Use Moogle Hunt to reveal Lex and talk to him. This will trigger the Iridium Ring quest. Next, head to the south-west of the Echoes of the Past ruins and seek out Lex’s friend.
You will find him walking around the lower levels, inside the watery cave. Talk to the man and he will give you three riddles to solve. Reply with the following answers:
The man will then reward you with the “My Buddy’s Message” collectible. Take this back to Lex to earn the Iridum Ring Fragment – worth 400 CP, and to cause a Wild Artefact to spawn next to him. Make sure you grab the artefact before moving on.
Platinum Ring Fragment
Head to the gate in the south of the map – the one where you first spawned – and find a soldier called Jonah. He will explain that he has lost a recording device, and needs you to help him get it back.
Head to the square room in the top left corner of the map to discover an invisible floating treasure box. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the box and collect Jonah’s recording device. Take it back to him to earn the Platinum Ring Fragment – worth 400 CP.
Mythril Ring Fragment
Head to the bottom left corner of the map to enter the underground watery cave area of the Echoes of the Past ruins. Walk east past the Chocobo to find a soldier called Thurston.
He will tell you his plan to blow up part of the ruins. Head east, just above where Jonah is to find a soldier called ‘The Commander’. Give Thurston’s plan to the Commander and he will tell you what an awful plan it is.
Head back to Thurston with the Commander’s feedback to earn the Mythril Ring Fragment – worth 400 CP.
Control Device Password 2 Fragment
You can only attempt this quest once you have collected the Platinum Ring, Iridium Ring and Mythril Ring Fragments in Bresha Ruins 300 AF. Before attempting this fragment, you must also start the ‘Adamantite Ring’ quest in Bresha Ruins 100 AF.
Once you meet all of the above requirements, head to Atlas control room to the extreme north of the map. Speak with the sarcastic soldier, who will tell you that you lack the kill to use the device.
After he has finished speaking, activate the device anyway to open up a Temporal Rift puzzle. Complete the puzzles to earn the Control Device Password 2 Fragment – worth 400 CP.
