Prototype 2 Walkthrough
The surprisingly successful spiritual sequel to Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, itself a surprisingly successful game, has returned with its own sequel — Prototype 2. Developed by original creators Radical and published by Activision, the murderous mayhem of the original Prototype, where you played as a constantly mutating weapon that could run on building and karate kick helicopters, has returned and taken a page from their original success.
Like in Hulk, the new protagonist Heller can weaponize different enemies and use them to devastate the competition. Tear a tank’s cannon off and use it to destroy your enemies, or create living bio-bombs injected with the Blacklight Virus that has New York completely sealed off by an evil organization called the Blackwatch. Go head to head with the mutant hordes of the Blacklight Virus, and take on the Blackwatch to exact revenge on the original protagonist of Prototype, Alex Mercer.
Get in on the bloody fun of with our text and video walkthrough below. Absorb data on Prototype 2 with our achievements, trophies, and cheats.
Welcome to Hell(er)
Welcome back to New York City, now hiding in terror from Blackwatch security troops and what is now known as the “Mercer Virus.” Instead of being on the run, this time you’re on the hunt for Mercer himself as Sergeant Heller.
When you actually take control, it’s back to basics as the game orients you to your controls while you follow Mercer. Things get dramatic quickly, but the instructions are easy to follow.
After your first attack and some substantial cutscenes, you get your first Achievement for ten points and then you start the rest of your orientation. Quickly you will learn to fight, grab, absorb energy, and throw things. After the last cutscene that tells you what the game is really gonna be about, you get another Achievement .
The Strong Survive
Now things actually start. Follow the instructions on the screen to absorb the commander, learn how to take his shape, and then…run away. At first you enter the running toward the camera, perspective, but as soon as you break away, you’re really playing the game for the first time. Break line of sight with the choppers and transform yourself. Run up the building toward the marker for a checkpoint.
From the marker, you’ll glide (wheee!) off the roof to your local church. Meet with the padre and earn another 10-point Achievement . You’ll start having a weird reaction, and you’ll have to head to the hospital. Look for the marker and get used to the way Heller moves. Once you reach the checkpoint, you’ll earn Heller’s first real ability. Hunt your first target to reach another checkpoint. You’ll talk to the Padre and then go on a hunt for the second commander. Follow the markers, and you’ll learn to Hunt from a distance.
If you have a hard time getting across the broken bridge, use the air dash to cover most of the distance before gliding the rest of the way. Take out the target. Jeez, way to draw attention to yourself, jackass! Break away from the choppers and get distance enough to transform to finish your first real mission!
Operation Flytrap
I dunno what a blackbox is, but let’s go find out. A body is in a corner behind a building, and there’s an information package on it worth a LOT of XP. Go get it. Keep an eye out for them as you move along. Then head to the G on your map to contact the Padre and get your next mission. Run to the next marker for a “specimen release.” Now’s your first really big fight against a Brawler. The most effective dodge is using the button without the stick to leap over the critter instead of around it. Use strong attacks when its back is to you and fast ones when you’re facing it, but mostly just play keepaway. You get a bit reward when you defeat it, as well as 20 gamerpoints with another Achievement .
Here comes another Brawler. Your fast combo is much more powerful now, and your strong attack makes a leap for your opponent.
Now you get your first really big fight, but first the game will teach you to do a claw pounce for some bonus XP. During the fight with the soldiers, keep an eye out for a yellow DNA sign rather than a hostile marker for someone to consume for info as soon as no one is watching him. Finish off the rest of the soldiers and return to the church.
This will complete operation flytrap, and if you followed the instructions above, Heller should now evolve a level. I won’t tell you what to point your point into, but you have several awesome choices.
Stronghold
Access the Blacklight terminal to get a lead on where to go next. Head to the top of the church for a good hunting bead on the good professor. See him? Good. Eat him.
Follow the marker for the Gentek facility. When you get close, you’ll trigger a cutscene. Find and consume a military individual to enter the facility. You’ll do the same thing again with the commander, and look for a yellow arm icon for a guy to consume who will beef up your skillz. Use the second hand scanner to get into the base.
Now you’ll learn about stealth consuming. The left trigger/left stick scan to see if someone is being watched will be very handy. Now head for the next scanner.
In the lab, you’ll need to get around two soldiers before you get to the next doctor. Use the skill you just earned to do it without raising the alert. Then you’ll have to move to a terminal nearby. Use that, and then exit the building and the facility to end the mission. This will also unlock your first mutation. Score!
As a bonus, when I finished the mission, there was a strongarm icon on the radar. It was a Brawler you could fight and then consume for a claw upgrade. Double Score! In case you can’t find it, it is basically right back where you came from for the Stronghold mission.
Black Tulip
Head back to the Blacknet console for another fast, rewarding mission. Hunt and consume the marked guy, who will be part of a pack of soldiers. It’s a lot easier to kill them than subtly eliminate them, but if you kill them, dudeface will run away FAST and it’ll draw a lot of attention to catch him. Once you catch him, you’ll move to another marker where another critter is being released.
When you reach the next destination you’ll be told to look for a handscanner. There should also be a corporal worth consuming to add to the Infected Salvage part of this mission. When you’re done, head back to the scanner for one more mission. From the roof with the next checkpoint, look for a DNA icon to consume another target before you move on. Then head into checkpoint. Change into a soldier before you drop down to the lair to reach it safely, then enter. Right ahead of you is a DNA signature. Consume it. Then, find the brawler, let it out, and take it down. Cause damage via explosion for some bonus XP. Along the way, there are a LOT of people running around in case you want to go nuts. Head for the exit when you’re done. There will be an alert when you hit the street. Clear it, and you will be awarded the Predator Mutation.
Brain Drain
Head to the R on the radar to get a message from your friend the priest. Follow the instructions to learn how to avoid suspicion, consume the soldier, then enter the base. Viral detectors can be a pain in the ass, but this one isn’t too bad. Move around it to consume the Blackwatch Trooper so you can proceed. Continue to avoid the detector as you move to the hand scanner to catch your meeting.
Once you’re done with the meeting, you’ll be chasing scientists. Hopefully you’ve upgraded your movement by now, because they are not slow and you’ll be under attack while you chase. Jump pounce, by jumping and then hitting grab, at least one scientist for bonus points.
When you’re done eating scientists, you’ll hunt down a doctor. Head to a high point for a sonar ping, and follow the signal. When you get close you’ll trigger a cutscene. Kill or consume a soldier to get a rocket launcher and shoot it at the APC vehicle for more points. Then take down the doctor. The jump pounce is super handy right here. Exit the alert to complete the mission.
Operation Long Shadow
Head back to the priest for another mission. I found a blackbox on top of the roof of the church on the way. Then keep heading for the marker for the priest. He will direct you to a military base, of course. There’s a DNA guy inside to consume, then change form and use the handscanner to enter the underground facility. And…wow. That’s dramatic.
The Hydra is VERY powerful. When it tells you to dodge, you’d better do it, or you’ll be down for the count in short order. Grab a rocket launcher and go to work shooting and dodging. It soaks up a lot of damage, you will go through several rocket launchers, but it’s way safer than approaching the ugly thing. That will learn you the tendril attack which is SO worth it. The black hole attack is badass. Exit and escape to finish the mission.
Manticore
My choice was to head to the Blacknet terminal and eventually develop another mutation. On the way I found another blackbox at the stadium where your last mission ended. Look for consumables along the way.
When you reach the base with the terminal, you’ll be directed to a “field op” represented by a little shield. When you get close, it’ll break up into red arrows for the members of the op. Kill all of them to take another step to a big reward. There are four total in this area and you must find them all for the bonus.
Change form to shake trouble and go back to the base for the terminal. The next step is to head for the Spawning Hive and isn’t that just a lovely turn of phrase? Follow the marker and on the way you’ll see a scientist to eat as well as the entry to the lair.
Inside the lair there are two DNA sources to consume, then a lot of scientists and soldiers to take out. Once that’s done, you’ll exit, and face down a heavily armed patrol. Run away to regroup, then come back and seize a soldier with a rocket launcher. Use that to take out the vehicles to spook the commander, then run him down and consume him.
On the way back to the terminal I found another Field Op unit. Regardless, at the terminal, you’ll get your last assignment for this mission. You have two groups of scientists to consume. Head to the smaller one, with just two scientists and one DNA guard, to achieve the stealth bonus. After that, the next section will be harder.
Use the hunter sonar to detect which angle you can approach from to being to eliminate one guard at a time and then consume the scientists. Stealth is very much your best bet here. When you’re done, evacuate the area, and you’ll earn a mutation bonus.
Feeding Time
Follow the target blip to take position on a building above the test site. Drop off the building to start your assault, which if you’re not very fast will include taking out an APC. Then another group will attack. Take out the commander for his access. Take out everyone else to clear the coast, then transform to break the alert and hit the handscanner. Take out the soldiers in this room, and look to consume one soldier and the head scientist. Make for the next scanner for an encounter with a new enemy.
They ain’t getting any prettier! Get him down to half energy by dodging and hitting him hard with your claw attacks. Throwing barrels works well, too. Once you hit him a few times, hit the tendril attack when he is vulnerable. That’ll get him down to half energy, but he’s much tougher after that, so keep moving and keep throwing barrels. If he hits you, you’ll be toast fast, but he’s not hard to avoid. Consume him once his health is depleted for a shield ability.
Time your shield use well to throw a projectile back at an opponent. Do it again for a bonus. Learn this timing. It’s very helpful. Exit the facility, then exit the base to complete the mission.
Salvation
Return to the Padre for another mission, this one to pull his fat out of the fire. Head for the church and take out the four guards waiting for you. Between assaults, switch personas so you can get the drop on your targets. Inbound are two APCs. Now you’ll learn a clever trick to tear weapons off vehicles and use them to destroy your opponents. Start with the two APCs (target just like normal, with left trigger) and then a helicopter, then two more choppers and a wave of Blackwatch. Grab weapons as you can. Grab another incoming TOW missile rack to blow up an APC for a bonus. It’ll come with one more APC and two more choppers. Then you’ll enter the church, and that’s it!
Clean Sweep
Head to the blacknet terminal. Corporal Stanley Carter is first on your list. Ascend the building next to you to hunt. He should be just on the other side of the church. Consume him for your next directive.
Head to the next marker, way up high, for the overlook and then it’s a race. Every crate you grab with info it in adds more to your timer, but it’s not very long. If you haven’t mastered gliding by now, you will fast. Don’t forget to use the air dash to add length to your jump before gliding, and glide, release, and glide again for a quick altitude boost.
That was a much shorter mission than some of the other blacknet ones, you’re done already. Heller gets a bonus to his defenses! If you did everything I did by now, you’ll also hit level 5 on your personal evolution!
The Lab Rat
Now it’s time to play undercover as you take orders from Blackwatch for your own advantage. Head for the staging area. As soon as you get close, cutscene. Here comes a chopper. Hit it with the black hole attack for bonus points. Once the chopper is down, the convoy will start moving.
Now you’ll be stalking the convoy. There are three APCs, all of which you must destroy in just a few blocks. The TOW helps, but the game also wants to give you a bonus for using the tendril attack, which is very effective against vehicles. Take out the first two APCs and most of the third one and then finish it off with your tendrils. Once the third one is down, help yourself to some delicious scientist.
The Mad Scientist
There was a black box right next to where the mission left me off. Head for the G icon to get another mission from the Padre. Follow the marker to the Koenig facility. Then eat the commander to get inside. Better get your stealth skills together for the bonus here, and you’ll be tempted to set the alarm off with all the tasty morsels hanging around. Take the folks here one at a time, subduing and consuming them all for maximum silence. This is actually deceptively easy. You only need to take out the one with the key to enter Koenig’s office. After that, you can consume with as much noise as you like. Be sure to release the Brawler and consume it before you leave.
Head for the next marker and you’ll get a call from the Padre. Your first assignment is to take out the communication systems. They’re very clearly marked. Several are near viral detectors, so take those out first if you’re squeamish. As soon as the network is down, you face off with a Heller pretender. Someone liked comics with Bane a bit too much.
Learn to time hitting the right shoulder button to block and then take advantage of your opponent. Do that a couple of times, avoiding assaults from the other soldiers (or start throwing barrels) to consume the Orion soldier. After that, follow the red arrows to take out the power points in the base. When you get far enough along, two more Orion soldiers will jump in. Enjoy! Once you get the timing down, they’re easy, and both of them have DNA for you. And that’s all there is to it.
Orion Project Two
Head for the K marker for your first Koenigh mission, with the hope of shutting down the next Orion phase. Remember how they turned you into a weapon? Now it’s time to finish off your duplicate. Use your shield in combat to earn a bonus. That’s pretty easy. Beating this guy is not. The attack and strategy the same, but he comes after you faster, and unless you hit him hard or stun him with the shield, he doesn’t take much damage. Ignore the other soldiers as much as you can, let him attack you, reflect the attack, suplex him, get in two easy shots, then repeat. Consume when finished.
Now you learn the incredible Devastator attack. Demonstrate it and giggle with glee. Recharge it to unleash the next section. Here comes three Brawlers and two Orion soldiers. Good times. Absorb them if you can. After that, run down and consume Dr. Burk. After that, exit the area and transform to get away.
Natural Selection
If you haven’t already, I’d collect a black box set if you can. If you have any section with 3 black boxes already collected, do some roaming to finish out a set.
Head to the K icon when you’re ready to move on to the actual mission. Wow. Turns out the scientist is a dick. Who’d have guessed? First mission, take out two rocket soldiers and two choppers. The math is pretty simple there. Finish that and you’ll drop to the street and have to take out APCs. Unfortunately, the Orions came to play, too. Use the TOWs from the APCs to make heavy headway. Consume the commander when he flees. There’s a lot of XP in it, but it wasn’t worth facing down the other Orions to me, I just got on with it.
Head for the base to facedown the betraying douchebag doc. Once you’re in the base, your goal will be to destroy the fuel tanks. TOWs seem like a good solution. Then the doc will attack you. The easy response here is to keep your shields up and deflect the rockets when they come. That might even get you an Achievement .
Wow, this is a bit of a surprise, huh? Damn mad scientists. He’s not any harder to beat down than previous targets, but he has a good chunk of life. If you have a devastator built up, it’ll help a lot. Beat him down, chase him when he gets weak, and finish him off by consuming him. After that is a cutscene, the mission’s over, and you get an Achievement .
The Airbridge
If you haven’t made time to hunt down some field ops or black boxes, now would be the time.
Head to the G for another mission from the Padre. You’ll head for a nearby base to consume a commander. Switch characters when you’re nearby to get the drop on him from above, then exit the base to escape the alert
Head back into the base when the coast is clear and head for the chopper. That will access the map for the first time when you can move between islands. Look southeast for the next destination via Airbridge.
Welcome to the Green Zone and another island. Head for the icon to meet up with the Padre for more info. Now you have a new target to hunt. Head for the new marker to find a base and the meeting. Only not.
Welcome to command, Sergeant Heller! Use the L stick to drive and move toward the icon. The “hand” icon shows how alert people are to your activities. The more you run over civilians or take out military men, the more attention you draw to yourself. On the way to the target, you’ll get a mission to drive over Infected. Drive over 60 of them for bonus XP. The park is a great source for them. After that, head to the rally point. Next there are two sub-missions, killing a wave of Brawlers and a wave of Juggernauts. Left trigger is your cannon, right trigger is rockets. Easy peasy. After that, one more wave of Brawlers and then another destination point, and then another.
Now you get to fight Hydras, which as you may recall, dish out a LOT of damage. As before, keep moving and don’t stop firing. Hop out of the vehicle when you reach the last point, and you’ll unlock the ability to hijack APCs. Sweet.
Finish out a cutscene and you’ll have completed two missions in one!
Keyhole
Where you start out next I could see a DNA Memory and a strength icon close by. Consume them and the Memory will trigger another blacknet mission. Next head for the terminal to look up the guy you just ate. Welcome to the mission.
Wait until the coast is clear, then enter the base, consume the commander, and use the handscanner. Earn a bonus in the base for using a tank to destroy another tank, which is pretty easy. An Orion shows up, and having some tank to push him around helps a lot as well. Exit the facility to complete this section.
Head back to the terminal to keep going. Head for high ground to hunt Dr. Walsh. Stealth consume him to keep your ass out of the fire. Now the mission is 3/4s done!
It’s a short rooftop hop to the next checkpoint, and then you’ll have to go on a race to grab containers before the time runs out. Again, if you haven’t mastered gliding and air dashing by now, this will help. If you have, it should be a snap.
That finishes up the Keyhole mission, and gets you a predator evolution bonus!
White Light
Look for a blackbox nearby where you ended up. The island is only three districts, so finding blackboxes and field ops are pretty simple. Take the time to do some hunting if you like. There’s definitely a blackbox in the base in the southwest corner of the island.
Head for the Padre for another mission. There’s another blackbox right next to the checkpoint. Your mission will take you against another Infected. And he’ll lead you on quite a chase before you catch up with him. Now you’ll learn how to jump helicopters and isn’t THAT rad? Then it’s you and Gallagher toe to toe. As ever, stay the hell out of his way. The easiest tactic is to shield against his attacks so you get a counter, and then do a heavy tendril attack on him. If you can do that about eight times, you’re golden. If you avoid him at the right time, his claws will get stuck in the ground and you get a free hit. Consume him when he’s finished off. And did defeating him get you a new weapon? Darn tootin’ it did. Once again, get out of range and transform, and your mission is over.
Jack of All Trades
Keep an eye out for guys to absorb, but if you don’t see one, hit the #6 terminal for this mission. There is a lair in the area as well, and you can explore these voluntarily for the first time. Your mission will take you into one lair to consume an officer. The lairs are home to several juggernauts, which is very good for your XP, but not an easy fight. Fortunately you have the blade now, there’s lots of room, and lots of people to consume if your health runs low.
You’ll get an Achievement for your first lair. Then you can continue toward the terminal to work more on the core mission. Next you’ll have to destroy three helicopters, but you have to go after them. Use tendrils or bounce back rockets for maximum damage, but for every chopper you try to take on, there are two Orions who will challenge you. Feel free to avoid them, but consume them for maximum XP. When you drop the last chopper, you’ll have to consume the commander. Things will be very hot when this is expected of you, so don’t let him die. Escape the heat to finish this section.
You’re only half way through the Jack mission. Head back to the blacknet terminal for your next assignment. It’s only a fast rooftop hop to intercept a chopper. Will you be collecting more cargo? Yes, yes you will. The race is the same as ever, but with an encounter at the end.
Chase the Evolved down. He’s easy to catch, but he puts up a fight. His strategy is the same as Gallagher, defend and attack with tendrils and he’ll go down. After that, report to the terminal again. And now it’s time to go scientist hunting again. Find the guy and consume him to keep going.
Head back to the terminal one more time for the skinny on the scientist you just devoured. Now you’re on the final leg of the mission. Head toward the next base, and look for a DNA Memory when you get nearby. Lose any heat and use the handscanner.
Inside the base you’ll have to take out two Brawlers who are fighting Orions. Look for a DNA guy to consume while you’re at it. You can use rockets, but if you want lots of XP, take them all out and consume them. There are some more Brawlers in cages if you’re feeling greedy. Exit the base to finish this mission and earn a mutation reward, which will also net you an Achievement .
Red Glacier
Hit a terminal to find out your next target, a scientist. Once you consume him, you’ll get your next assignment. Step one is to release two Brawlers and kill and consume them. Exit alert after that to move on.
Time to hunt for a sergeant. Head for a roof, scan to find him, and you should be able to drop right on the soldier and get his 4×4 memory. Now you’ll have some APCs to destroy. Destroy one of them with a devastator attack for a bonus. The easy solution is to liberate a TOW rig, do some damage, then unleash the devastator to take more than one of them out at a time. Next come three choppers. Grab a rocket launcher to take them down fast. Consume the engineer who is thrown from the crash, and exit the alert to complete the mission and get a mutation award.
Taking the Castle
If you haven’t taken the time to do some exploring and earning resources from finding black boxes and eliminating field ops units, now would be the time. You can even backtrack to the Yellow Zone via Airbridge to do some mop up work on that island. There’s a lair over there, too. In case you haven’t noticed, there are small circular pulses on the map when you look at the collectible menu, which tells you where to start looking.
Hit the R icon when you’re ready for the next mission from the Padre. You’ll be sent to find a meeting, but you have to consume the right trooper first. A Blackwatch trooper is the one with the hood and the glowy eyes. They’re not hard to come by. When you devour one, head for the next marker. After that, you’ll head for another marker to track a scientist.
Look for the blue DNA icon for your target. Both of the scientists have good DNA for you, so head to the rooftop and consume the soldiers first for a clear shot. You don’t have to be stealthy, but it helps. When all three scientists are eaten, you get a cutscene and the next assignment.
The bonus mission is to use a vehicle to destroy the target tank. However there are LOTS of tanks to choose from, so if you decide to do that, and it’s worth it, expect to have to change vehicles after your first one takes too much damage. Once the tank is destroyed, eat Riley to steal his shape.
Exit the alert to put yourself in the right position as the lieutenant. That completes this mission.
Vivid Future
Head for the terminal for your next mission. Instead of being an easy consume, he’s another Evolved, but the fight will be easy if you dodge, defend, and use your blade weapon. Head for the next checkpoint to track a chopper and…find another race mission. Only this time you’ll be under heavy fire the whole time. Awesome! It’s actually not that bad if you just keep running. When you have the second to last package, there are several rocket soldiers, if you time a good block, you’ll get them off your back for climbing the last building. The bigger issue is that you draw a LOT of heat so escaping after the mission is potentially harder than the chase itself.
Head back to the blacknet terminal to get a mission to track another damn doctor. He’s not far away and very vulnerable to an air drop attack. After that you’ll hunt some more scientists, the second pack of which turn out to be Evolved, and you’ll get a bonus assignment to kill all three of them in just 90 seconds. Take one out fast to get a quick advantage there. Exit the alert and you’re all done
Maze of Blood
Head for the R icon for the next mission. Head for the next marker, it’s not far. Meet the bio bomber. Track him down and put him down. The fight is challenging, he’s very good at defense, charged blade attacks and periodic black hole attacks are the most effective.
Congrats on getting the bio bomb ability. Now head for the next marker. Now you’re hunting again and you’ll get a tutorial on using the bio bomb. Drop into the base, lose attention, and then deploy the weapon! You’ll be attacked immediately with an option for a bonus, to damage your opponent with a bio bomb. There are a lot of guys around who will dish out a lot of damage, but the human grenade is a good equalizer. Put down this Evolved with the usual tactics for a memory of White Light and then exit the alert.
Head for a high point for another hunting mission. Is this doctor another freaking Evolved? Of course he is. Jeez, you guys are thick on the ground! Even more so when his buddies show up. A dropping blade attack does a lot of damage instead of screwing around with these guys on the ground. You can take them out without absorbing them, but the XP is worth it.
Alpha Wolf
Head for the R icon to get started. Head to the next marker. Consume a scientist so you can infiltrate a base, which should seem very familiar by now. Enter the facility. Place two stealth bio bombs for a bonus, which is pretty easy. However, you have to stay in scientist form to stay safe when you start detonating tanks. Grab a rocket launcher and get busy.
The scientist in the lab after you detonate the tanks is a pain in the ass. There’s lots of crossfire, which shouldn’t bother you much, but she’s only vulnerable to the black hole every three or four attacks, and she’s hard to pin down with a big drop attack. In short, it’ll take some time. When you get her down to half power, she’ll summon two Brawlers, which are a pain. If you have a devastator attack saved up, it’ll help. When you get her down to a quarter power, she’ll summon FOUR Brawlers, which is a pain. Aerial attacks will help a lot. Finish them off, take her down to almost no life, and you’ll get a DNA memory from her. Finishing the attack will gain you the Brawler Pack power and then you’ll get to use it! Exit the alert to finish the mission.
Stranger Among Us
It’s time to meet Sabrina Galloway. Head for the S icon. It’s on a lower level of one of the higher towers on the island. Now you’re temporarily her bitch. The first assignment is to head for a rally point to fit in with an extraction team.
Head for the marker to join the team. Jump into the base in disguise to get a new disguise without getting detected. Any one of the DNA marked soldiers will do and then you’ll join the team. Now you’ll be killing infected with a gun, which by now should actually be a nice break with tradition. Grab the grenade launcher when directed to take out three infected with one shot for a bonus. Otherwise, you’ll just keep soldiering along with your big guns, taking out infected and Brawlers. Then you’ll face a Hydra. By the time you face the second and third Hydra, with some Brawlers, you’ll get a chance to pick up any big-ass weapon you like. Go nuts.
After the coast is clear, hit the waypoint and then you’ll have some more killing to do. When you kill all but the last scientist, the final one will turn on you. There will be no fight though. Not yet. Exit the alert area to complete the mission.
Nest of Vipers
Head for the S icon for your next mission. You’ll need to chase Roland into a lair, but first you have to take out a Hydra, and once you do some damage to it, you’ll face a pack of three Brawlers. Rocket soldiers will show up and they’re your best bet for getting the job done fast. Then head down the hole into the lair.
In the lair you’ll look for Roland and face off with a Juggernaut. He has Brawlers as sidekicks, so take them out first. An air attack with the blade and following up with black hole works well, but you’ll have to keep moving and he never takes much damage at a time. Bio bombs help, too. Once you put it down, you get the Hammerfists, which are rad ass.
Take out 30 infected, which is fast and easy, to get a Bonus. Then leave the lair. Once you get out, another Bonus opportunity comes up immediately if you defeat the two tanks with Hammerfist. If you don’t want to go toe to toe, wear them down with distance attacks, rockets, etc, and then finish them off with the Fist.
Heavy air attacks with the blade help put Roland down faster than the shiny new fists. Consume him for an important memory and a Shield upgrade. Exit the alert to finish the mission.
Fall From Grace
Head for the G for another mission from the Padre. He’ll give you a way to get Mercer’s attention, and how. Geez, well it turns out you’re an idiot. Good job. Summon your brawler pack to get bonus XP. Very sensibly, your next step is to stop this gas nonsense once and for all. Head for the marker.
Looks like you did your job! And now your mission to prevent the gas from being released just got a LOT harder. Meet Goliath. You don’t have to worry too much about him getting to the gas before you do, he’s slow and he’s focused more on you, but he’s a tough bastard. Target the highlighted areas to rob him of a limb and make him a much easier target. Otherwise, look for a big overhead blow which will make him stuck and vulnerable. Use tendrils for distance attacks and the blade for dropping in on him and he won’t put up a fight for long. Your devastator attacks will largely be wasted on him. Now, who’s hungry?
Exit the alert to receive a call and learn your next step. Does the Father need your help again? Of course he does. Run to the next checkpoint. Then things get really interesting. And you get a fatty Achievement .
The Descent
Head for the M marker for your next contact. Instead of just jumping the Airbridge to the Red Zone, you’re gonna follow the next marker to take over a chopper pilot and get yourself out there! Welcome to chopper flying 101. Will you be surprised to know you have to use your knew chopper skilz in short order? You’re going to defend a truck. For bonus XP, use the directed button to “defend” the way you would dodge on the ground, to avoid two thrown objects. Otherwise, take out the Brawlers from the air. After Brawlers come Medusas, and it’s a long, hard slog. Using the defend dodge uses up a rocket, so circling with guns firing is effective to dodge fire and not use up your ammo. Watch for objects between you and your targets that will absorb your fire as well.
Once you manage that, a Goliath will roll along, and you’ll have to rescue an engineer. Simply head near the highlighted area to pick the guy up and then be prepared to fly off in a hurry. Head for the next marker and land. And now you can hijack choppers. Awwww yeah. That completes your mission and gets you your first contact in the Red Zone.
Burned From Memory
From the arch where you start, head toward the M icon and look for a blackbox along the way. Actually, I was fortunate enough to find two strike teams and another blackbox on the way to the next mission. There’s a lair on your path as well if you’re looking for it.
Get the skinny on your next job and then head for the hot zone. Grab two barrels and throw them in the incinerator. Then you’ll have a lot of infected to take out, so a Devastator is pretty handy. After that you’ll have to pick up another round of barrels, but return them to the same incinerator, so it’s a longer trip. Charge up your attack pack for bonus XP here, and it’ll help to get some of the many combatants off your back.
The infected Brawlers will just keep coming, so focus on the barrels. Get the furthest one first to make it easy on yourself and keep your pack prowling to keep the bad guys distracted. You can air dash while carrying the barrels, so make good use of that. Once the second barrel set is completed, exit the area and the alert to finish the mission.
Spotted Cat
Head toward the mission computer. If you’re lucky you’ll come across another mission along the way. Now you have to hunt a scientist. Look for a memory and an upgrade consumption nearby. Find Dr. Rajiv for his memory and the next part of your mission. Here’s hoping you have a good disguise, because you need to steal a soldier’s identity without raising the alarm. By now that should be easy.
Follow the patrol, but you have to do it in disguise, so you can’t do anything special along the way. When you reach the waypoint, you’ll come under attack. And you have to take the infected out without revealing your identity, which means using a gun. The flying infected are very destructive when they dive, so dodge, but they’re easy to take out when they’re not attacking you.
Keep following the patrol and you’ll face a wave of civilian infected and fliers, both easy to take care of. Upgrade your gun from those lying around if you care to, and take out five without getting hurt to earn a bonus. Just keep moving and it’s a snap.
You’ll reach the scientists, but look for a DNA memory nearby to grab as well. Then consume the three scientists, subtly or not as you see fit. Head back to the terminal. Then you’ll get a phone call and get a new assignment. Follow the marker, and you’ll have to take out two gun turrets. Grab a car and throw it at one of them to get a bonus. A bio bomb will do fast work of the other. Head into the base and descend into the facility.
Follow the signal to the room with the barrels. You can raise some hell now or a little bit later. If you draw attention to yourself when you open the incinerator, you can break line of sight and change into a disguise, which will buy you some time. Either way, you’ll draw attention of the evolved eventually as you destroy the barrels. Finish them off when you’re done. Exit the base and alert if necessary to reach the next checkpoint.
The final mission assignment is at a terminal that is unreasonably far away. Apparently it’s time for some suppression. And apparently that means killing a bunch of guys, which you should be pretty good at by now. Consume the soldiers to power your fight against the big opponents and take out the towers early because they’ll bug you otherwise.
When you’re done with that, the armor rolls in, and you’ll get a bonus for beating them down with your pack instead of your fists. You’ll have to summon the pack more than once, as mostly you’re fighting soldiers and one vehicle in waves, and it takes some time. The last tank ejects your target, so consume him and then run away to finish things up.
Last Resort
Head for the S to meet up with Gretchen for your next mission. Look for the marker for the next target. Look for a grenade launcher or missile launcher or both to take out the fuel tanks for bonus XP. There are two heavy guards to watch out for. Once that is done, take out the remaining Blackwatch soldiers to get the desired reaction.
Head to the next waypoint and prepare to take out several Brawlers and then there’s a special surprise! Now you’ll face a new Evolved with a very familiar weapon. The Hammerfist from above is very effective against her, and the claws are fast enough to get to her as well. When you beat her, you get her ability. Sweeeeet. Immediately, you’ll get a chance to whip it out, so to speak.
And of course you’ll get a chance to use this sweet weapon right away against two helicopters. Use the fast version of it to take out 20 infected along the way for bonus points. When you reach the next checkpoint, simply consume the marked individual by following the very nifty directions.
Stun Circuit
Head for the terminal and look for a DNA memory nearby. Move to high ground to hunt your next target, who you will find at street level, in a bad way. Consume him to complete the first half of the mission.
Head to the nearby waypoint. And this is the first race you’ve had in a while. So long as you remember to defend against the rockets, bouncing them back at the shooters, you’ll be fine, but you cannot slack off. On the section where you drop back to street level, do so fast, and jump up to the left when you find the fifth item on the street. After that, exit the alert.
Go to the terminal, and now head for three tanks you need to wreck to flush out a commander. Find him and then chase him. It’ll be a long chase, but he’s not hard to follow. Then you’ll have to drop a chopper, which won’t be hard either. Nor will defeating him using only claws and hammerfist for a bonus. Claws actually work really well and make short work of him.
Clockwork
Head for the next terminal, then head for the high ground. Find the scientist and consume him. Follow the next waypoint to grab a chopper.
Take out the fliers quickly, and drop four of them without taking damage for a bonus. The easy tactic is to just keep moving and firing. Then land on the roof. Take out another flight of fliers and a medusa on the ground to pick up another douchey scientist. For the next section there are a few fliers and two hydra. If you’re good, you can destroy a hydra without taking damage for a bonus.
Hit the deck to pick up the third scientist. After that, you’ll have a very high waypoint to aim for and a smooth flight of your own.
Head for the terminal. You can access it, or grab the DNA memory nearby to move on. Head for the next checkpoint, the containment site. Now you face another Goliath. As always, target the limbs as quickly as you can, and use fast weapons and attacks, as the slower ones will miss the narrow windows of vulnerability. Grabbing a minigun or two off a tank is the fastest way to put him down.
Head for the next terminal. Now we go hunting again for the douchey-named Elwood Pine. He’s an evolved, so there’s a fight, but it shouldn’t be much of one by now.
Head for the next terminal and things get serious. It’s time to head for a Gentek facility to take out Mercer’s toys. Consume a commander, head into the base, and release the critters. Consume five of them for bonus XP. The Brawlers are easy, but throwing explosive barrels at the big guys makes fast work of them. Guns in this small space are handy, too. Exit the facility to complete your mission. If you did all the terminal missions, you also get a big Achievement .
Long Horizon
At the terminal you’ll be given another target. Move to the high ground for more hunting. This scientist is harder than most. Once you get her down a bit, she’ll bring in fliers. Keep at her with the blade and blocking to put her down. After that, you’ll head for a chopper which you have to drop, and the whipfist makes that easy. Then it’s another chase. Yay! Realistically, actually, it’s more of a treasure hunt. The timer is more lenient, and the objects aren’t on a linear path. You’ll do this three times. After that, kill an evolved which is very vulnerable to a charged whipfist to move on.
New target to hunt. Dr. Foster is guarded by Brawlers and will summon fliers. He’s not actually that tough, there’s just a lot going on at the same time. Either clear the area and finish him off, or focus very tightly on only him.
Head for the next marker and the hand scanner. Enter the base. Inside, you can kill by stealth to get a bonus. It’s not hard, just use the hunting scanner to take out the unwatched targets one at a time. The center area is curtained off and useful for grabbing the doctor whose hand you need to proceed.
The next part is way harder, but the tactic is identical. Take out the individuals one at a time to break the defense, then stealth consume the commander to start a fight. Defeat him easily enough and then exit the base and exit alert to finish. There’s a bonus opportunity after you exit the base, and it’s super easy. Enjoy.
Divine Intervention
Head for the R icon for your next mission. It’s time to find your kid. We’ll start with some light hunting. He is not a simple human target this time. Tail him. He’ll be seized and you’ll have to chase his captors. When you catch up with them, you get bonus XP for using a “variety” of attacks. You need to use six distinct ones to get the prize. Start unarmed and use each of your weapons once to earn this simply. Then beat the evolved down. One will call two Brawlers, but by now they’ll be a snap.
Fly in the Ointment
If you haven’t gone hunting for blackboxes, etc, by now, you should take the time to do that. Use the map to pinpoint potential locations and search them. When you’re ready, head for the M icon for the next mission. It’s hunting time. Find your target, consume him, and then escape the inevitable alert. Then get to the chopper! Earn an easy bonus by picking off the fliers with guns and rockets. There will be at least one more wave of fliers. After that, you’ll take on some Hydra down on the street. Then catch up with the chopper you were tailing. Then you’ll have to take out a wave of Brawlers and Hydra to protect the chopper.
Follow the new transport vehicle. Follow it and take out the Hydra along the way. Keep moving up and down to avoid their throwing attacks. Focus your attack on one at a time to put them down quickly. Then land the chopper to end your tail mission. Now it’s feeding time! Consume all four commanders, exit the area, and exit the alert to complete the mission.
Firehawk
Head for the S icon for a very smartass conversation and some details on the very destructive plan your enemies have. You get a bonus for hijacking one of the special choppers, so you might as well use it to destroy the other two! Then you’ll have to go on a spree of destruction taking out more targets throughout the city, including an ammo dump. If you lose your chopper, get another, you don’t want to take on these targets solo. Once that’d done, head for the marker.
Lost in the System
Head for the M icon to meet up with Dana. Head for the next marker to finally (maybe) devour Rooks. Head for the next marker, enter the base, and use the handscanner. Stay stealthy to get a bonus once you’re in the secure facility. Eat a scientist for cover, use the next handscanner, and Carson is all yours, along with the bonus points.
Exit the base for a surprise. For a bonus, defeat this guy without taking damage. Get weapons from tanks to do it without too much trouble.
Kill the remaining infected to clear the LZ, then head for the marker. Another black hawk down and another evolved fight follow. Consume all three.
Labor of Love
Head for the marker. You’ll be told to hammerfist the door to get it open, but you won’t make a dent in the door’s life bar. Once you hit it enough, a cutscene will be triggered, Aaaand, holy crap, really? Damn! Once the door is open, head inside.
Well, dammit. At least you get an Achievement .
Murder Your Maker
Well, here we go. Boss fight. The first phase is easy. Dodge, counter attacks, and hit him with your good stuff. The second go round, whatever you relied on the last time won’t work against him, so use your less favored assaults for the first go round. Again, dodging will save you in the second round, and well-timed defense for counters will make all the difference. On the third round, you’ll use two buttons in combination to do some serious damage, and then keep dodging to put him down.
The last phase of the fight is a series of quick time events. You won’t have any control, just look for the buttons to press. You’ll use the right shoulder button to block every attack, and counter according to the instructions to take Mercer apart. Compared to the boss fight in the first Prototype, it’s a snap and easily capitalizes on the skills you needed to get here.
Taking out Mercer gets you a fat 100 points for the Achievement and unlocks the insane and game plus modes. The game will put you back in free roam mode to finish collecting if you left anything behind.
