Episode 2: A House Divided
Chapter 1: Two of Us
The episode begins with Clem and Nick stuck inside a stone shack while zombies pound on the doors. Ask Nick whatever you want, but he’s despondent after the loss of his uncle.
When the zombies try to break in, I slammed [Q] then pressed [E] to push them back. Ask Nick another question, and he’ll bring back a crate to block up the door, keeping you two safe.
I chose Nick over Uncle Pete because it looked like Pete got bit. When Nick asks why I made my choice, I give it to him straight – Pete wasn’t going to make it.
Move left in the shack when you’re free to explore. There are boxes, a moonshine till, and something in the corner. Move the plywood and bring the strange jar over to Nick. It’s whiskey! Not exactly helpful.
The pair decide to wait it out. Later in the evening, Nick is smashing bottles against the stone wall. Talk to him, and he’ll offer up some hopeless thoughts on the state of the world. Agree or don’t, he’ll only care if Clem wants to drink with him or not. I chose to decline.
Nick offers to help Clem slip away alone, but I demand he come with me. After a moment’s hesitation, he decides to come with Clem. They’ll need each other, after all! But, a drunk Nick might not be that helpful.
It doesn’t take long before Nick gets the horde’s attention. Now that you’re surrounded, Nick goes back to his original plan and yells at the walkers, drawing them away from Clem. You have a choice – stay with Nick, or run. Either way, he sends Clem off.
Mouse over the zombies ahead before it gets Clem, then quickly press [Right] to dodge another. Things don’t look good for Nick, but Clem gets away safely.

Chapter 2: The Intruder
Back at the homestead, I tell the pair waiting about what happened. That Pete got bit, and Nick is still behind. Two of the others went out looking last night, so two more of the adults rush out before more survivors die.
That leaves Clem with Sarah. I promise the doctor not to tell his daughter about any of this. He’ll remember that – we should probably try to stick to the plan.
Upstairs, she surprises Clem with a camera. I agree to take her picture next. Whenever you’re ready, click on her face for a snapshot. Say cheese!
When she asks about her father, I try not to lie, and tell her that he’ll be fine. When she pulls out a gun, I refuse to teach her. What would her father think? He’s ultra-sensitive, and Clem is already on thin ice with these people.
It looks like Luke’s back. She runs off, putting you in control of Clem. Going downstairs, you’ll get a quick glimpse of a shadow moving across the window. Let’s not risk opening the window, and return to the kitchen.
On the way, you’ll get confirmation. That isn’t Luke. The stranger wants inside.
I try to lock the door, but he opens up. Before he can say anything, Clem tells the man to get out. He doesn’t seem impressed.
He shoves his way in. The stranger asks about the people living here, I tell them it’s a large group. Maybe that’s a mistake, because he’ll remember that.
This guy acts like he’s looking for something. He snoops inside the kitchen after asking about his group of seven. He asks more questions, giving Clem a chance to go for the knife, but it looks too far. I choose not to try for the knife.
Eventually, he goes upstairs, looking for whoever else is creeping around. Everything seems alright, until he discovers the discarded snapshots – now he knows Clem isn’t alone.
I tell him she’s my dead sister. He doesn’t seem to believe Clem, but finally he leaves without incident. Before going, he questions why Clem should trust these people. Very ominous.

Chapter 3: Departure
The group returns, with many questions for Clem and Sarah. They ask who the man was – I never got his name, but when they ask what he looks like, I lie. Sarah reveals the stranger found a picture, and Clem admits she took it.
Sounds like the stranger was William Carver, and he’s hunting the group. Looks like Clem is stuck with them for now. Before leaving, Clem agrees to lead them back to Nick’s last location.
On the road, the group will return to the stone shack. Open the door, and you’ll find Nick. It looks like he survived his close brush with death! Finally, some good news! Nick is happy to see Clem again, he’ll remember if you tried to save him.
Back to walking, I tell them Nick saved Clem’s life. Hopefully giving the guy some positive reinforcement will knock him out of his cycle of depression.
But, it’s going to be a long walk. They estimate another five days.

Chapter 4: In the Woods
Reaching a large bridge, Clem is on point with her binoculars. Click the bridge, the small house, then the chair lifts and ski lodge on the mountain. The lodge is the group’s next destination.
Carlos doesn’t want Clem to go, but I rebuke him. Walking toward the bridge with Luke, responds to her simple question – why is Carver still following this group – with a cryptic question. What’s most important in this world?
Family is my answer. At the bridge, there are two walkers. I say we take them now, and Luke agrees. He’ll take the big one, Clem takes the small one. I want to get the big one, but when in control, I choose to brain the bisected zombie. Click the skull, then drag the mouse left, then right to pull the hammer free.

Chapter 5: Crossing the Bridge
There are more undead on the bridge itself. Two ahead, with one coming up from the rear. Before Luke can even get one, the wood gives way, dropping him and the zombie down into the steel work beneath the tracks.
Try to help Luke, but Clem can’t reach. Look up, then click the walker’s knee to pull the creature to the ground – perfect height to hammer it in the skull.
That doesn’t work. Mash [Q] then press [E] to free Clem’s hammer from the walker’s jaw, then dodge. Clem’s only weapon is lost, so its time to change tactics. She ducks [Down] then dodges [Left] to have her choice of two weapons.
I choose Luke’s machete over the rusty pipe. Hit the face, then hit it again. Once it’s jammed in, smash [Q] and [E] to cut straight through the creature’s skull.
Clem takes the pipe next. Click Luke to hand it over to him, helping him stand up and climb out. With the bridge clear, the pair will continue across.
But someone beat you there. He’s waiting on the opposite side. The stranger asks for info, and I’m straight-forward, giving him Clem and Luke’s names. Not like it matters.
Be friendly, and the guy walks forward. It doesn’t seem like he’s with Carver.
Nick’s arrival changes all that. I yell at the two not to shoot, but it’s too late.

Chapter 6: The Other Side
The helpful stranger is dead, and Carver surely heard the gunshot. Across the bridge, the group argues over what happens, but I choose not to pick a side. It was Nick’s fault, but blaming him will only make the situation worse for everyone right now.
Luke and Carlos go to talk in private, putting the player back in control of Clem. The stranger did say there was food in the station, so let’s go take a look.
Next to the cabin, Clem can talk to Nick. Because I found the watch in Episode 1, we can give it to Nick when he realizes its missing. He’s glad to have it back.
Inside the station, you’ll find a lot of empty cans, as well as some other assorting goodies. The radio is dead, but there’s a survival knife on the table. Grab it, then use it on the trunk under the windows.
Food! Alvin enters, and asks to take extra food for Rebecca without telling the group. He wants to put the baby first, but Clem can’t afford to keep secrets. I tell him that I won’t lie, even if his heart is in the right place.
No time to stick around. Walkers are crossing the bridge, forcing the group to continue up the mountain.

Chapter 7: Reunited
The lift doesn’t work, but there’s not enough snow to make the trek impossible. Next, you’ll appear outside the lodge at the top of the mountain.
Every entrance is nailed shut, and Carlos wants to be careful before they barge in.
Luke requests a favor from Clem while the others are working. He wants her to climb the ladder and watch to see if Carver is tailing them. Climbing up has a few bumps, but at the top you’ll get a view of the bridge.
Examine the area, and you should see a few lights in the distance. Look at those too – but you’ll see the group doesn’t seem to care. Something else has their attention.
Another group has Carlos and the rest at gun point. But, squeezing through, Clem recognizes one of them.
It’s Kenny! He’s happy to see Clem again, and invites everyone inside the lodge for dinner.

Chapter 8: Revelations
Inside, Kenny’s people ask Carlos’ to disarm. Before the situation gets too tense, I ask everyone to calm down, and they eventually disarm, giving Clem and Kenny time to catch up.
Kenny can’t help but talk about Lee. Clem can respond however she wants; say it was her fault, say nothing, or tell Kenny that he helped.
When the pair finish talking, Kenny requests for Clem to help their cook Walt with dinner preparations. There’s not much to help him with, so when he leaves Clem will have free reign to explore the lodge.
Over by the Christmas tree, Sarita and Sarah are putting up decorations. Speak with Sarita to help out. She wants a topper for the tree, time to find one! Go up the stairs behind the tree.
Carlos, Rebecca and Alvin are talking about Carver – I tell them that I saw lights. They need to know the situation is getting serious, but Alvin wants to stay the night.
Talk to Rebecca before looking inside the crate. Clem can choose between three toppers; a star, a red ornament, or an angel.
Placing the topper leads into another talk with Sarita. She wants to know more about Kenny, but there’s not much to say. He seems different, but in what way? Sarita will remember whatever it is you say.
If you haven’t spoken with Rebecca yet, do it now. She’ll offer to let Clem listen to the baby kicking. Not wanting to be rude, I agree – she’ll remember that.
Downstairs, dinner is served. But only after Rebecca reveals that the baby isn’t Alvin’s. I try to reassure her, but the conversation is interrupted.

Chapter 9: Christmas Dinner
Both groups are sitting at different spots. Now it’s time to choose who to sit with. Go with Kenny, or side with Luke? Surely Luke won’t mind if Clem reminisces with an old acquaintance, right?
I go with Kenny. He’s been a jerk in the past, but I have to know what’s going on with him. He’ll ask questions about Nick – do you trust them? And he wants Clem to stay. I tell Kenny Nick’s a good guy, and I’m not ready to abandon them yet.
Before the talk goes on, Nick and Luke sit down with Kenny. It looks like Kenny’s people were planning on going north to Wellington, just like Christa.
When the conversation explodes, I tell Nick and Luke to calm down. But, things only get worse when Kenny accidentally calls Clem “Duck” – his dead son’s name. He looks ashamed, but that kind of thing is going to have to stop.
Still, I’ll give Kenny the benefit of the doubt for now, and tell Luke to leave Kenny alone.

Chapter 10: Helping a Stranger
Walt takes Clem outside to talk about uniting the two cliques, but I haven’t quite decided who to go with yet, so I keep quiet.
Walt asks if something is on Clem’s mind, and I tell the teacher that I’m worried. He’s mentioned his friend Matthew a few times – a man that goes on long walks and collects literature. Down in the station on the bridge, Clem found a pile of books in the dead stranger’s crate. The one Nick shot.
But, Walt doesn’t let her finish. Kenny checks the windows to find another watcher. Bonnie, the same woman from 400 Days, is looking in. I’m not as trusting as Walt, and demand to check her for weapons.
Walt leaves while Bonnie asks about Clem. I don’t give her any information, and Walt comes back with a box of food. The encounter ends peacefully, but Kenny isn’t too happy.
Back inside the cabin, Luke gets Clem’s attention so they can have a private conversation. Luke found a picture of Walt with his friend – the guy Nick shot.
Luke wants to keep this quiet, but I want to speak up. Luke devises a plan – first then need to get rid of that knife Clem took from the station.
When Nick arrives, I tell him he needs to know what’s going on, and show him the photo.
Nick doesn’t know what to do, and I advise he tell Walt. The guy is way too fidgety to lie convincingly, but who knows what might happen with Walt. Maybe not a great idea, but Luke sends Clem to dispose of the knife anyway.
Unfortunately, the knife is gone.

Chapter 11: In the Dark
And Walt has it. I can’t make Clem lie, and I tell Walt the truth. Nick shot his friend Matt.
When Nick steps outside, he denies it. Walt wants to hurt the guy, but tosses the knife away in disgust just before Kenny and the rest get outside.
The wind turbine is out of control. Wind from the storm is causing a lot of noise, enough to draw in walkers. Clem will volunteer to fix it.
Use the lighter for some illumination, then grab the key from the hanger and use it on the red switch.
But it wasn’t fast enough. Walkers start to appear in the hills. When Clem takes cover, pop up and aim for the brain. If you miss, you’ll be down one shot.
Ahead, you’ll have a whole wave of walkers coming for Clem. Try to take down as many as you can before running out of ammo.
The group retreats toward the lodge, and without a weapon its your only option. A zombie gets in the way, however, leaving Clem to try for the rifle stuck under a corpse. Shove it off and aim for the head.
It’s a miss! Ignore the rifle and go for the knife to the left. Stab the monster while it tries to squeeze under the bench.
Outside the entrance, Walt has his pistol on Nick. He leaves the guy to die. This time, he isn’t so lucky as a walker bites down on his neck. Clem joins Walt with Carlos. You can reveal Walt now, but I chose not to escalate things just yet.

Chapter 12: Caught in a Trap
Things get worse all on their own. Clem retreats inside, while automatic fire cuts down the remaining zombies.
Bonnie was with Carver all along. Her and two other thugs capture Carlos, Walt, and Sarah. Everyone else takes cover around the lodge.
As Clem, you can peak over the chair. Don’t look too long, a red light will start to glove. The darker the light gets, the more danger you’re in of being caught. Only take a quick look.
When red pointers appear, follow them to reach Alvin safely upstairs. But Carver isn’t going to make this easy. He tortures Carlos, demanding that Rebecca give herself up.
Now you have a choice. Reveal Rebecca to Carver, or sneak off and find Luke for help.
I can’t give up Alvin and Rebecca. I choose to find Luke. Jumping down, sneak around the far corner and move across the window to reach Kenny.
Standing in the perch, you’ll see Alvin and Rebecca appear from hiding. Kenny asks who they are, but I advise him – there’s no way Kenny can handle these guys alone.
Kenny doesn’t listen, and shoots one of them dead. Carver doesn’t let that stand, and shoots Walt in retaliation. He’ll keep killing his hostages until Kenny gives himself up.
Clem has to find Luke, they need his help. As they switch perches, Kenny gets another shot at Carver.
This is your choice. Choose to shoot, or give up. I can’t sacrifice Alvin on a tough shot, and choose to give up.
Carver now has everyone but Luke. They drag everyone back to their camp as the episode ends.
