Zombies are a lot like Nazis, you simply can't get enough even by killing them repeatedly. There may be more zombie shooting games than you can shake a stick at, but picking the good ones from the rest is why we came up with this list.

After some thorough research (read: gaming), we've managed to nitpick some of the best Zombie Shooter games of all time. From the eerie Raccoon City to atmospheric Fairfield, check out the list of top 10 Zombie Shooting Games of all time below.

#10 Cold Fear - Xbox, PS2, PC

Cold Fear

Released during the same year as Capcom's behemoth Resident Evil 4, Cold Fear was a decent alternative to RE4 which wasn't released on the Xbox or PC and was released much later on the PS2. It's no RE 4 but the game is a pretty decent survival horror shooter with some run-and-gun gameplay elements that will keep you hooked for the short 5-6 hour campaign. The game has an interesting plot with players taking control of Tom Hansen, a coast guard, investigating a mysterious Russian whaler drifting aimlessly with hostile Russian Soldiers and strange Zombie-like creatures.

#9 Zombies ate my neighbors - Wii, SNES

Zombies ate my neighbors

Zombies ate my neighbors, the cult classic released on SNES and Genesis back in 1993 was added to the Wii Virtual Console library in 2009 and it's just as fun as it was back in the days. Players will find themselves in backyards, neighborhoods, malls, football fields, factories, and lots more. It isn't like your average old school Zombie game, there are some original bad guys too.

#8 I Made a Game with Zombies in It! - Xbox Live

I Made a Game with Zombies in It!

I Made a Game with Zombies in It, is quite literally a game with zombies and some awesome background songs. The game is available for 80 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live which is like $1 and they say that in the song too, if you like shooting Zombies and enjoy some intelligent humorous music, you won't be losing anything if you buy this game.

#7 Dead Island Riptide

Dead Island Riptide

Set on a resort island overcome by a viral outbreak that turns everyone into zombies, you take on the role of one of five main characters who find themselves among the lucky (or unlucky) survivors. Equipped with little more than a few tools, you must make your way through the hordes of the formerly living and bring the rest of the survivors to safety before finding a way off the island.

Dead Island and its pseudo-sequel Dead Island Riptide may be a little rough around the edges, but its ambitiousness can't be denied. The game is without rival in terms of being an open world, zombie-killing action RPG.

#6 Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army

Nazi Zombie Army is a stand-alone expansion of Sniper Elite series. According to the game's story, in the dying flames of World War II, a despairing Hitler unleashes one final, unholy gamble – a legion of undead super soldiers that threatens to overwhelm the whole of Europe.

As one of the last living souls in Germany, you must team up or die. American, German, Russian – previous military allegiances no longer matter. Now it's just the living versus the dead.

#5 Day Z

day z Day Z

Join the scores of desperate survivors in the free "Arma 2: DayZ Mod", the award-winning and massively popular persistent multi-player mod created by Dean 'Rocket' Hall for "Arma 2: Combined Operations"!

Go Solo, team up with friends or take on the world as you choose your path in this brutal and chilling landscape using whatever means you stumble upon to survive. However the infected are not your only threat. You will be forced to fight for your life against other survivors, over rare necessities like food and water, in your constant battle to survive in this wicked world.

#4 Dead Rising - Xbox 360

Dead Rising

Developed by Capcom and produced by legendary game designer Keiji Inafune, Dead Rising is an open world survival horror game in which players, taking on the role of Frank West, end up trapped in a shopping mall infested with zombies. Frank must defend himself from zombie attacks, rescue survivors, contend with psychopaths, and stay alive while still attempting to uncover the truth behind the incident.

It's not really an out-and-out Zombie shooter, but we simply couldn't resist putting Dead Rising on our list. The game is a unique mix of action and fun gameplay while giving players the chance to witness hundreds of Zombies in one single frame. Almost anything can be used as a weapon in this game which includes guns so you can bludgeon, stab, or shoot away Zombies.

#3 Black Ops 2: Zombies

Black Ops 2: Zombies

The addition of the Zombies game mode sure was a welcome one to the otherwise been there done that modern combat game. Unlike Call of Duty: World at War, in which you had to unlock it after completing the main campaign, Zombies mode in Black Ops 2 is available from the very start.

The mode puts up to four players in an abandoned location with some barricades between you and the zombies. As you progress further in this mode it gets more intense and satisfying as waves of undead keep piling on, while unlocking new weapons and locations within the area.

What's interesting about the Zombies mode in Black Ops 2 is that it provides players with objectives to accomplish as the game goes on, and forces players to move from location to location while dealing with increasingly tough waves of zombies.

#2 Left 4 Dead Series

Left 4 Dead Series

Left 4 Dead is mostly fun when played cooperatively and the game will fulfill your wish of being caught in a zombie apocalypse from both perspectives with tons of guns and hordes of Zombies at your disposal. Unpredictable & relentless enemies make it imperative to have human teammates in harder difficulty modes, but you can't complain about killing zombies alone either. The game also offers a variety of gameplay modes which will keep you interested for a while.

Its sequel, Left 4 Dead 2 simply tops L4D with more explosive content making its predecessor look pale in comparison. New campaigns, game modes, guns, all-new melee weapons makes this a complete zombie apocalypse experience from both perspectives.

#1 Resident Evil Series

Resident Evil Series

Games: Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil : Crisis Evil, Resident Evil game boy color, Resident Evil Deadly Silence, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 1.5, Resident Evil Online, Resident Evil Outbreak, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil Outbreak File 2, Resident Evil The missions, Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, Resident Evil The stories, Resident Evil Code Veronica X, Resident Evil Gun Survivor 2 : Code Veronica, Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil 3.5, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5.

It goes without saying that Resident Evil is the grand daddy of Survival horror Zombie infested shooter games and is a whole lot of fun when played alone. The plot is amazing and is still going strong in Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil: Revelations.

If you like survival horror games and like Zombies there is absolutely no reason not to have played any of the Resident Evil games. Coming after the mega hit Resident Evil 1, everyone had high hopes for RE 2 and it didn't disappoint us one little bit. It was one of the most interactive and cinematic game of its time with a great story and some scary moments as well.

Since the first Resident Evil, the franchise has probably evolved a lot and touched new heights but the first game will always be known as the one that started it all and made Zombies the star attraction in horror video games.
