The Lego Movie Videogame is a new action adventure video game that was developed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment subsidiary, TT Games, the developers of other Lego titles such as Lego Marvel Super Heroes and the hugely popular Lego The Hobbit.
It was also published by the parent company Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The Lego Movie Videogame is the latest entry into the much acclaimed Lego Videogame franchise and is based of the recent animated move, “The Lego Movie” which was released alongside the video game adaptation.
The game was released on all 7th and 8th generation consoles. And on February 7th 2014 it was released on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita and Wii-U.
There are no current details available involving the development cycle for The Lego Movie Videogame, this may be in part due to the games development alongside the The Lego Movie. The Film was in development from 2008 so it’s not too much of a stretch to assume that development of the game began not long after, this would however mean a 4 year development window and as such is open to interpretation and independent findings.
As the old adage goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Just like the previous entries into the Lego videogame franchise from TT Games, the player is put in control of an on screen avatar constructed from various Lego blocks modelled on a character from the series it’s based on, in this case The Lego Movie Videogame. The player must collect various Lego blocks as the progress through the stage that they’re playing in, and by doing this they can create bridges and platforms to help access new areas.
Different characters generally have their own abilities attributed to them such as stronger or ranged attacks, the ability to climb through ventilation to reach previously inaccessible areas and build using certain types of Lego blocks. This game is set to be the first in the series that will have levels made entirely out of Lego blocks, fans could actually rebuild entire areas of the game with Lego blocks.
This game also introduces the concept of new main character types, specifically the Regular Builders and Master Builders, played by main characters and the protagonist (Emmet, Vitruvius etc). What this means simply, is that certain characters cannot construct readily from piles of Lego blocks, they instead require a page of instructions that can be found hidden in each level of the game. These are used to instruct the character on how to build a specific piece within the game. Master Builders however can grab any Lego piece found in the environment and use it to create an entirely new item. This customization was a large part of the games appeal to fans of Lego.
Players will be joining Emmet and his unlikely crew of resistance fighters as they embark on a quest to thwart the evil machinations. Unfortunately, Emmet and friends are “hopelessly and hilariously unprepared” for the task at hand. Making their way through the Lego world, the player can expect to run into an astounding array of characters ranging from Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Green Ninja, to Gandalf, Shakespeare and Cleopatra to name but a few.
