Fire Emblem: Awakening Character Recruitment Guide: Chapter 23

One of the main focuses of recent Fire Emblem games is the possibility to recruit a lot of characters for your army. Fire Emblem: Awakening is not so different in this regard, with a lot of characters available for recruitment. As always, many of the characters can join you automatically but for some others you will have to take specific steps to make them join like deploying a specific character and make them talk with the possible recruit. With the many advanced classes available in the game you may want to recruit as many characters as possible to create the most diverse army: some classes are only useful in specific situations and that’s where the many characters of the game will come in. In this guide we will be listing all the characters available, both automatic recruitments and optionals, with small descriptions for each character: a lot of the automatically recruited characters often have something they’re really good at and I always recommend to not change their class to a different type. You will have plenty of occasions to do so with the optional characters: unlike the story ones, they have some more average features and are perfect to experiment with customization. So save your seals for these characters.

• Chapter 23: Invisible Ties

Basilion

After both Basilion and Flavia appearing but not taking part in battle, it’s time to defeat them and get them to join your army. To get Basilion to join, you will have to defeat him in battle using Chrom and you created character. This can become quite troublesome if you’re playing Fire Emblem: Awakening with the permanent death option turne on: Basilion is a true powerhouse and some of your characters may end up dying against him. Using Chrom and you character right from the start against him is suicide so the choice is yours. Please note that Basilion is a great character who doesn’t require any kind of training to become usable in battle: if you get him to join he can replace any melee unit with ease, even though he’s better suited as a tank rather than a damage dealer.

Flavia

To recruit Flavia you will have to defeat her in battle using Chrom and your created character. The same conditions apply as with Basilion: loose a few units for her or just avoid her entirely. Given her starting class, she’s better than Basilion as a damage dealer: she’s faster and attacks most units twice. If you choose to get her into your army, place her in the frontlines without any worries: she’ll probably do most of the hard work and render obsolete most of your other melee units.
