List of all Covenants in Dark Souls 2

A much greater focus is being placed upon Covenants in Dark Souls 2 than in the first game. Instead of simply making a comeback for the second outing, they are going to be available from a much earlier stage and will each provide new and unique ways to interact with the world and also with other players.

Each Covenant features different effects: some will help you and others will hinder. The Way of the Blue covenant, for example, will endow you with a player-controlled bodyguard should you get invaded. Players who join the Blue Sentinels Covenant, conversely, can opt to invade the world of sinful players.

Joining a Covenant in Dark Souls 2 is achieved by making an oath to specific NPCs, and once you join you will be bound by certain rules set out by your leader. Abiding by these rules will yield rewards, while breaking them will impose penalties. As well as the single-player implications, Covenants will also affect a player’s online interactions, providing bonus items or spells to aid them in various ways.

Though not all of the Covenants are yet confirmed in Dark Souls 2, here are the ones we know of thus far (we will update the list as soon as more information becomes available):

Co-operative Covenants

These Covenants focus on helping other players. There are nonetheless still methods of invading and killing other players once you've joined one of them.

Covenant of the Meek (Way of the Blue) – Can summon a bodyguard to help defend against invasions. Provides the Blue Ring, which slightly increases health and max burden. PvP Typically concerned with defeating other players in combat, though again does not restrict you from helping other players.

Protector Covenant (Blue Sentinels) – Allows you to be summoned into another players world to help them against invasions.

PvP Covenants

PvP Covenants are typically concerned with defeating other players in combat, though again, joining does not restrict you from helping other players or being helped yourself.

Sanguinary Covenant (Brotherhood of Blood) – Invade other players' and receive rewards the more you successfully kill.

Brilliant Covenant (Heirs of the Sun) – Assist other players in their journey through Drangleic.

Clangorous Covenant (Bell Keeper) – Be automaticlaly summoned to protect the Bell Tower and prevent other players from ringing the Bell.

Covenant of Ancients (Dragon Remnants) – Leave a summon sign and allow players to bring you into their world. Cannot directly invade other worlds.

Covenant of the Meek (Way of the Blue) – Automatically summons a Blue Sentinel to provide assistance if you are invaded by another player.

Gnawing Covenant (Rat King) – Prevents NPCs in the covenant area from attacking you, and also allows you to summon other players into your world to be killed. While these players will not go hollow if killed, you will go hollow if they manage to kill you.

Protector Covenant (Blue Sentinels) – Automatically be summoned into the world of a Way of the Blue covenant member who is being invaded.

PvE Covenants

PvE Covenants are ones that affect the gameplay with AI-controlled enemies.

Covenant of the Fittest
(Company of Champions) – Raises the difficulty of enemies, adding both to their health and damage dealt.

Abysmal Covenant (Pilgrims of Dark) – Allows access to three new areas (exclusive to this covenant) by offering a Human Effigy to the covenant leader: Darkdiver Grandahl.

There are achievements in the game for discovering each Covenant, as can be seen here in our list of Dark Souls 2 Achievements and Trophies.
