Watch Dogs Driving & Crafting Skills

As you level up throughout Watch Dogs you’ll earn Skill Points, which are used to improve your skill set and acquire upgrades. The Watch Dogs skill system normally takes the form of a tree, but in this list we’ll cover the driving skills and craft skills. The other Watch Dogs skills, namely the hacking skills and combat skills, will be dealt with in other articles. However it is recommended to look at each of the skills and upgrades areas as you’ll want to develop multiple areas at once, rather than finding you can make the best grenades but can’t even break into a car very well.

Driving Skills
The first driving skill you can use when playing Watch Dogs is the Car Unlock ability, which you definitely should get early in the game. For a game involving your character’s reputation, there will be an occasion when you need to be subtle and that’s the Car Unlock skill’s specialty. There are 7 other driving skills you can attain in Watch Dogs. Unless you’re someone who likes to mix things up a bit, you ought to hone in on one upgrade and stick to it. It’s better to be the best at one thing rather than mediocre in everything, isn’t it?

Car Unlock: Immediately Available | Costs 1 Point
This skill lets you break into cars and other vehicles without setting off alarms or attracting attention. An essential skill to master if you want to progress.

Defensive Driver: Immediately Available | Costs 2 Points
The Defensive Driver skill enables you to be exactly the opposite. With this ability your defenses rise, meaning that you can take more damage and still walk away from. The benefit of the Precision Driver skill is the 3 chances your tires get; they won’t blow out until the third impact.

Escape Artist: Available after Main Mission Act I/5 Open Your World | Costs 5 Points
After acquiring this driving skill, your enemies will have a smaller range in which they can see you. The visibility range reduces, so the enemies in the furthest 25% of the original range won’t be able to see you anymore. This will make avoiding helicopters and escaping the police easier.

Off-Road Driver: Available after Main Mission Act I/5 Open Your World | Costs 3 Points
When you’re driving through grass or across dirt tracks, your expectation isn’t to go quickly. However with this Watch Dogs driving skill friction is reduced, helping the speed problem.

Offensive Driver: Needs additional task completed | Costs 5 Points
To get the chance to buy this driving skill, you’ll have to complete 5 fixer contracts in Watch Dogs. It’s worth the time as the damage you cause will get a 25% boost. The skill makes attacks less effort with more results; if you’re a keen car crasher, this skill is made for you.

Craft Items
While playing Watch Dogs you may come across items that seem random, but you could use them to craft items. There are 5 items you can collect for crafting, each contributing to certain tools and projectiles. To find them you can wait until you stumble across the item, or you can buy some of them in pharmacies and pawnshops amongst other methods.

Lure: Immediately Available | Upgrade Cost 0 Points | Requires (1) Electronic Parts
The first projectile you’re able to craft is Lure. To use it simply throw it then hold the Hack button to lure or attract your enemies to the item, allowing you to sneak past undetected.

Jam Coms: Immediately Available | Upgrade Cost 1 Point | Requires (1) System Key and (1) Electronic Parts
This item is used to shut down ctOS communications in an instant, which is particularly useful if your Reputation is too negative. You’ll be able to use this craft item whenever you see a purple, green or red alert triangle. But most notably, you can use Jam Coms to stop Shot-Callers from getting word to reinforcements.

Blackout: Available after Main Mission Act I/5 Open Your World | Upgrade Cost 1 Point | Requires (2) System Key and (1) Electronic Parts
The best advice for using this craft skill item is to use it at night, because although it can cut power for 20-30 seconds, sunlight isn’t included in that. The Blackout tool causes a total power outage, which provides the perfect cover for escaping from your enemies (when used at night!).

ctOS Scan: Available after Main Mission Act I/5 Open Your World | Upgrade Cost 3 Points | Requires (1) System Key and (1) Electronic Parts
The object of this scanning craft item is your enemy and all of the others nearby. ctOS Scan instantly tags enemies, letting you know exactly where everyone is in the area and what their movements are. You can also use this in multiplayer mode.

Focus Boost: Available after Main Mission Act I/5 Open Your World | Upgrade Cost 2 Points | Requires (1) Meds
This crafting upgrade works with the combat skill Focus, which slows time for you to move and fight efficiently. The item improves the effect that Focus has on you by fivefold, that is a considerable enhancement. The best time to use Focus Boost is when Focus runs out.

Frag Grenade: Immediately Available | Upgrade Cost 1 Point | Requires (1) Chemical Component
Playing as Aiden Pearce you’ll be able to create your own grenade, once you have this craft skill upgrade. There is a 3 second delay between throwing a Frag Grenade and it exploding, use that time to get out of the way!

IED: Available after Main Mission Act I/5 Open Your World | Upgrade Cost 2 Points | Requires (1) Electronic Parts and (1) Unstable Chemical Component
The IED is a projectile that’s remotely detonated. Throw the item and then hack it to cause an explosion. If you don’t detonate the IED, at least you can peel it off the surface and put it back in your inventory. Although it could have been the ultimate stealth weapon, the Watch Dogs creators must have decided that it would have been unfair because setting off the projectile actually alerts everyone in the area.

Proximity IED: Available after Main Mission Act I/4 Open Your World | Upgrade Cost 3 Points | Requires (1) Electronic Parts and (1) Unstable Chemical Component
The difference between this item and the IED is that movement detonates the Proximity IED. But similarly, the Proximity IED notifies nearby people that the explosive will go off. Keeping your distance from these projectiles once thrown is wise, firstly because you don’t want to get caught in your own trap and secondly, you can shoot it to start the explosion when you want it to boom.
