After E3 earlier in the year, many people were left wanting, especially after the spectacle of the next-gen console announcements last year, and all eyes have been on Gamescom over in Germany for the last week.
We saw a huge number of new games announced, and exciting developments happening over on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
A lot of the announcements were overshadowed by confusion over other big releases, and to be honest we all found it hard to keep up with what was going on at times. But now that Gamescom 2014 has wrapped up we can finally take a step back from the chaos, and take a look over everything we saw in the big press conferences.
Day 1:
Microsoft's Press Conference:
Microsoft's Press conference began with a trailer for Assassin's Creed: Unity and was followed by a presentation of FIFA 15 where a FIFA 15 Xbox One bundle was announced that includes a digital copy of the game.
Chris Charla, director of Xbox's ID @ Xbox program, revealed a brief preview of over 20 self-published indie titles coming to the console. Notable games include meme-turned-game Goat Simulator, Hi-Rez's MOBA title Smite, Superhot, Plague Inc.: Evolved, and Keen Software House's Space Engineers which are timed exclusives for the console.

One of the most talked about announcements of Microsoft's press conference was Rise of the Tomb Raider's exclusivity. While phrased in such a way as to suggest permanent exclusivity, Microsoft's Phil Spencer later confirmed it was a timed exclusive while speaking with EuroGamer.
Sony's Press Conference:
Sony's press conference was shorter than Microsoft's with less gameplay shown. However, SCE Europe President Jim Ryan announced that the PlayStation 4 console has shipped 10,000,000 units worldwide. Their press conference served more as a teaser of games available on the Gamescom floor.

While Microsoft spent a great deal of time presenting its own flagship titles and first-party exclusives, Sony relied more heavily on exclusive titles and content from third-parties. This follows the courses set by the two industry titans up to this point. It's interesting to see Sony branching outside of its consoles and put more focus on its streaming services and Playstation TV.
Day 2:
EA's Press Conference:
EA's Press Conference was a combination of announcements and previews.
Dragon Age Inquisition

Buzz is surrounding EA's presentation of Dragon Age: Inquisition. The trailer shown at Gamescom included Dragon Age 2's protagonist Hawke, as well as Dragon Age: Origins companion Morrigan.
The official reveal of BioWare's new IP, Shadow Realms, has been met with some controversy. The 4v1 online aRPG is set in the modern day. This experimental approach has been met with criticism from those who were expecting a horror game based on previous teasers for the game.
Gamescom 2014 didn’t disappoint, but in many cases we were left hungry to know so much more, especially on the hardware front from Sony, and their virtual reality experiment Project Morpheus.
Until then though we have some great games to look forward to, the next few months will be very busy ones for gamers!
