Destiny PS Vita Remote Play Controls

Sooner or later you’ll be forced to step away from your PlayStation 4, whether that be for food, sleep or work, and leave the world of Destiny behind. But not so fast! What if you could take your Guardian with you? Well through the magic of Remote Play we can get that extra little bit of time in Destiny, and maybe even get a little bit of fresh air and sunlight without dragging your entire living room into the front yard.

Ever since the launch of the PlayStation 4, Remote Play has been a huge selling point for the PlayStation Vita, but despite some very promising and incredible smooth gameplay on offer, quite a few of games available to stream really suffer during the transition to the small screen. The team at Bungie however have obviously been putting a lot of effort into making sure that you’ll be quite comfortable when exploring the absolutely massive universe whether you’ve been kicked off the TV in favour of Soaps, or you’re spending your weekend in bed taking on some patrol missions.

This includes a redesigned control scheme, which ensures you won’t be fumbling around with the rear-touchpad in order to shoot, but can be a little awkward to get used to at first, with instructions for the different control scheme a little obfuscated.

To make it easy on you, we’ve listed all of the redesigned PS Vita controls:

  • X – Jump / Movement Ability
  • Square – Reload / Interact
  • Circle – Crouch / Slide
  • Triangle – Switch Weapons
  • Left Trigger – Aim Down Sights
  • Right Trigger – Fire Weapon
  • Left Touchscreen – Grenade
  • Right Touchscreen – Melee
  • Center Touchscreen – Summon Ghost / Return to Orbit
  • Left + Right Touchscreen – Super Ability
  • Up D-Pad – Player Highlight
  • Down D-Pad – Sprint
  • Left D-Pad + X – Sit Emote
  • Left D-Pad + Square – Wave Emote
  • Left D-Pad + Circle – Dance Emote
  • Left D-Pad + Triangle – Point Emote
  • Left Stick – Move
  • Right Stick – Look
  • Start - Character

If you need to double-check your button layout at any point during the game, you can also tap the PS button, and using the touchscreen navigate to a guide for the control scheme.

All in all the redesigned layout makes for a pretty seamless experience on the little handheld.

There are a few issues here and there, the biggest probably being the Sprint button being mapped to the Down D-Pad, which can make some of the move tricky evasive manoeuvres a little tricky. But with buttons a little limited on the handheld PlayStation, it’s difficult to see how it could have been placed any better.

Ultimately it’s a pretty comfortable way of playing the game, I would probably avoid the Crucible, as it can take a little extra time to line up your shots with those little thumbsticks, but after a little time spent getting used to the change, there’s no reason I can see why you couldn’t play the whole game on your Vita.
