How to become a vampire and how to cure vampirism in Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online is finally here for all you Xbox One and PS4 owners! When players are exploring the world of Tamriel, one of the most common requests is how to cure vampirism. It’s something that can be a real pain to players, as depending on how severe your vampirism has become, your character may not be able to go out during the day without losing health! Well in this game players now have to go through a quest to pick up vampirism, and it’s actually more difficult than getting the cure. We go through how to become a bloodsucker and if you’re sick of it then how to get rid of it!

How to get infected

Before you even start the quest to become a vampire you need to get infected, and getting infected isn’t as easy as it seems. There are two ways to get started towards becoming a vampire in the Elder Scrolls Online.

The first way is to get another player to give you “the gift”, this can be achieved by finding a player who already has vampirism, and meeting them at a shrine to complete the ritual using the vampire’s “Blood Ritual” ability, which allows vampires to share their gift with others once a week.

The second way to get infected is by a bloodfiend. These enemies only spawn at night on New Moon, and only in certain areas. To get infected as a character in the Daggerfall Covenenant you need to take damage from a bloodfiend in Bangkorai. For the Aldmeri Dominion it’s Reaper’s March where you need to find the bloodfiends. Ebonheart Pact players can go to The Rift to find the bloodfiends they need to get infected. Once you’ve found the bloodfiend, the infection isn’t immediate - you have to sustain the fight with defensive abilities until you are bitten.

How to turn into a Vampire

Now you’re infected and have officially contracted vampirism you can move onto the quest to become a full-fledged vampire. Again there are multiple ways to complete the quest, depending on if you contracted vampirism from a bloodfiend or from another player.

If you got infected from a bloodfiend you first need to speak to Vorundil, he’s in Reaper’s March if you’re Aldmeri Dominion, The Rift if you’re Ebonheart and Bangkorai if you’re Daggerfall Covenant.

Vorundil will explain that to become a full-on bloodsucker and embrace the gift of vampirism you need to seek Rahaja.

From this point onwards the quest is the same whether you were attacked by a bloodfiend or if another player gave you the dark gift.

You can meet Rahaja outside the entrance of the Blood Matron’s Crypt. Once you’ve met him, he will explain to you that you’ve been corrupted by the Daedric Lord Molag Bal, and therefore you can’t become a vampire by just being infected. Instead you have to become infected directly by the Dark Mother and queen of vampires: Lamae Bal.

After you’ve spoken to him, Rahaj will invite you to kneel before a monument, which will transport you into the Crypt of the Blood Matron. Once you’re inside Rahaja will explain that in order to receive your prize you must first understand the story of the Dark Mother herself.

To do this you must drink from two cups to receive two visions, one of the Dark Mother’s corruption by Molag Bal, and one vision of how Arkay forsook Lamae Bal when she was a priestess of Arkay.

Now you’ve done this you can speak to the queen of vampires herself. The Blood Matron appears to you after you kneel in a pool of black water, and instructs you on your final task before becoming a vampire – you must kill and drain the blood from 10 worm cultists.

When you’ve done this, return to Lamae Bal to receive the gift, and finally become a fully fledged vampire!

How to get cured of vampirism

Thankfully, and in a change from some of the older Elder Scrolls games, getting cured of vampirism is much more simple and straightforward than becoming one.

To get cured of vampirism what you need to do is find Prelate Sabinus in the Mage’s Guild of your faction’s final area.

Once you’ve spoken with him you can either make a donation of 621 Arkay to cure you of your vampirism, or if you’re feeling particularly stingy you can refuse to pay him.

Either way, after the ritual is complete you will be able to show your face in daylight once more!
