ARK Survival Evolved: How To Tame And Ride A T-Rex

Need a guide on how to tame and ride a T-Rex in Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved? Well, it’s a lengthy process but if you have the level, the skill, the patience and the proper intestinal fortitude, you’ll be able to knockout, feed, tame and ride a T-Rex as if you were living in a futuristic wild west redux of the stone age.

A couple of YouTubers have various ways in which you can tame a T-Rex, including the long and painful way that includes a lot of running around and kiting, and a more efficient way that involves high-tech equipment and gear.

YouTuber Mau5Craft has a quick four minute video detailing how to capture a T-Rex in ARK: Survival Evolved. He kind of skips a few important details but thankfully there are other videos that also help flesh this out.

So the basic gist is that first up you’ll need a Rex saddle. To unlock the saddle you’ll need 40 Engram points to unlock the ability to craft the saddle and you need to be level 60.

To actually craft the saddle you’ll need to acquire 380 hides, 200 fibers and 50 metal ingots.

Once the saddle is crafted it’s time to go T-Rex hunting.

It requires around 20 tranquilizing arrows to knockout a T-Rex and render it unconscious.

You might want to bring along 100 raw meat, but it may take around 60 to actually tame it, depending on how much time it takes for the ‘Tame’ meter to fill up.

If you have Narcotic you’ll need around 10 to actually keep it unconscious but be sure to bring around 20 just in case. If you don’t have Narcotic you can use around 100 Narco berries.

JCinHD shows a brief concept of what it looks like attempting to tame a T-Rex without Narcotic and without the high-level equipment.

Taking down a T-Rex can be difficult and it’s advised to have a partner to kite the Rex while you lay some tranquilizers into it or punch it in the butt while your partner has the aggro.

If you’re planning on doing it solo then you’ll just have to do it at a distance and kite it around until you can create enough distance to shoot it with a few more tranqs. If you don’t have tranquilizers and decide to punch it you’ll be kiting and punching for a very long time.
