Rocket League has managed to surpass 5 million downloads, as reported by Pixel Dynamo. The game is extremely popular and a lot of people really want to get good with the game. Thankfully, there is a series of videos available to help newbies get good with the game, spanning the likes of scoring goals, flying, double-jumping, back-pedaling and side-hopping.
YouTuber Colezy has a series of tips and hints on how to play Rocket League called “Skill School”. You can check out the playlist of videos below.
Some of the basic features are outlined in the first video covering many of the common skills and functions of the rocket cars.
Double tap ‘X’ to double jump. To directional jump you tap the analog stick in the direction you want to move in after tapping ‘X’ – when you press ‘X’ again you will move in your desired direction.
Colezy introduces back-pedaling. The purpose of back-pedaling is to keep your eye on the ball while moving backward to play on the defense.
To fly you just double jump and hold down your turbo to fly.
In the latter videos Colezy covers more advanced techniques, such as scoring off the wall and hitting the ball at angles to nab goals.
One of the key tips to wall-scores is not to air-boost into the ball with a barrel-roll if you want to score off a wall angle. The reason for this is that if you air-boost into the ball to setup for an angled for a goal, the ball will just roll up the wall instead of bouncing off the wall. It’s suggested to only boost hit the ball to prevent opponents from setting the ball up to score on your goal.
Colezy notes that a good angled goal shot is to go in at a 45 degree angle and just boost hit it toward the wall and then come off the angle to knock it into the goal.
The video series also covers directional ball control, air control, flying and trick shots.
Rocket League is available right now for the PC and PlayStation 4. You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official website.
