Let’s move forward in Majora’s Mask 3D with a guide to Snowhead Temple. Snowhead Temple doesn’t need a whole lot of prep, but the prep that you should do beforehand is important. The most important thing that you should do before tackling the dungeon is getting the full-size Magic Power bar. To get it, you have to get all of the Stray Fairies from Woodfall Temple and turn them into the Fairy Fountain, which is located right outside the dungeon. Go into the large cave that isn’t the exit and you’ll find it. The Magic Power upgrade is important for Snowhead, especially for the boss fight with Goht; the whole temple relies heavily on Goron Link’s ability to turn into a ball of spikes when you hit top speed while rolling, and that saps Magic Power very quickly.
Also, it’s not crucial, but you can go to the Shooting Gallery in Clock Town along with the Swamp Shooting Gallery to get the Large Quiver and the Largest Quiver. They’re available and the gyroscope controls make aiming fun as hell so go ahead. Treat yo self. Get some more arrows.
The goal of Snowhead Temple is to get to the top floor where the boss room is. Until you get the fire arrows, your movement around the first couple floors is going to be very limited, so make the acquisition of fire arrows your top priority. I know, very surprising, getting the dungeon’s item is crucial to its completion. However, you’ll notice very quickly that the dungeon is just littered with giant hunks of ice that can only be melted with fire arrows. Not all of them signify entryways only accessible by getting the fire arrows mind you; for some you can aim an arrow through a lit torch to melt them, much like the wooden flower in Woodfall Temple. Keep an eye out for these torches to keep yourself from getting stuck.
Once you activate the switch that extends the pillar in the middle of the dungeon, you may think that you will have to retract it and extend it multiple times to get around; don’t bother. There are enough shortcuts littered around the floors from melting ice or using some inventive falling from higher floors that it makes it completely useless. Just remember to keep the verticality of the dungeon in mind. From the way it’s constructed, you can go down very easily and find your way back up without needing a lot of effort.
Snowhead is where the game first really starts asking you to use Goron Link’s roll efficiently and effectively to be able to travel around. Jumping gaps may seem pretty very difficult if you haven’t gotten the hang of it. The key is to remember that on most of the platforms before gaps, there is a lot of friction for Goron Link to grip onto. Move yourself back as far as you can to the door or stairs you came out of and go into the Goron curl first at a dead stop. Then, try to go as fast as you can, and Goron Link will grip the ground as he builds up his magic attack. When he activates the attack, the friction will disappear and you will go at top speed over the gap.
Make sure to learn how the Goron’s roll works. Not only is it crucial to getting the Gilded Sword after the temple ends, but it is also essential to defeating…
Goht is a boss that is difficult until you get the hang of it, and then you’ll be able to defeat him without even thinking about it. When you first enter Goht’s room, you find him frozen in a block of ice; melt him with a fire arrow and he will begin rampaging around the room. Put on your Goron Mask and begin chasing him around the room and try to slam into him when your Goron roll activates its magic attack. If you can, use the ramps to jump on top of him from above; it can get a couple of hits in on him without fear of being hit by any of his counter-attacks. After you knock into him enough times, Goht will fall down and a large eyeball will pop out of its back; hit the eyeball with fire arrows when Goht’s back is straight up, and use jump attacks with your sword when Goht falls on his side.
As you do more damage to Goht, Goht will retaliate against you with more varied attacks as you progress. It starts out with an electric orb when you get close and kicking its back legs, but as the battle goes on Goht will also knock down stalactites from the ceiling to block your path, throw bombs from its weird mechanical asshole, and kick boulders with its back legs. Otherwise, just repeat the pattern and Goht will eventually slam his stupid goat face into a wall, netting you a Heart Container and Goht’s Remains.
Finishing Snowhead will open a wide number of paths to you. The most important things to do after the temple are to gain the ability to use powder kegs, and to get Gold Dust from the Goron Races for the Gilded Sword. To learn to use powder kegs, there is a cave in the Goron village that is blocked off by a large chunk of ice. Melt it with a fire arrow, and the Biggoron inside will give you a test to see if you can use them properly– he will ask you to take one with a long fuse and blow up the rock blocking the entrance to the Goron Raceway.
The Goron Raceway is just outside village, in the area with the large pond; take the powder keg up the hill and place it next to the large rock. After the rock is cleared, you can go back to the Biggoron to get another free powder keg. From then on, you will be able to buy powder kegs from the Goron in the Clock Town Bomb Shop for 50 Rupees each.
Since you now know where the Goron Raceway is, go ahead and go back to the Dawn of the First Day and defeat Goht in Snowhead again to start springtime in the mountains. Take your sword to the blacksmiths next to the Mountain Village waypoint; for 100 Rupees they will improve it into the Razor Sword, but it will take a day to complete. In the meantime, blow up the rock blocking the Goron Raceway and enter it. Talk to the young Goron to start the race.
Winning the race isn’t exceptionally difficult, but don’t just write it off either. The biggest help to remember is that Goron Races are not for children– they are a god damned blood sport. Run directly into your competitors when using the Goron magic attack to wound them and cause them to slow down briefly. However, this is a two-way street- if the opposing Gorons run into you when you are not using your magic attack, they will hurt you and cause you to fall out of your roll. Make sure to hug the corners, use ramps and run over the green pots if you find yourself low on Magic Power.
Once you win first place in the Goron Races, you will be given a prize of an empty bottle containing Gold Dust. Fast forward time to the Second Day and return to the blacksmiths; they will give you your completed Razor Sword, but they will mention that they could improve it even more if you had Gold Dust. Thankfully, you just happen to have a bottle on you, so talk to them again and offer them the bottle. They will agree to improve your sword again for free, but it will take another day. Fast forward again to the Final Day and the blacksmiths will give you the finished Gilded Sword. The Gilded Sword is far more powerful than the Kokiri Sword and Razor Sword and has a much longer reach, and will be a great boon in the trials to come.
Aside from this, you can also now access Romani Ranch by using a powder keg to blow up the boulder blocking the road. From there, you can start the Aliens sidequest for Romani, which will give you access to Epona’s Song and free use of Epona in Termina Field. With Epona, you can now access western Termina, also known as Great Bay.
