The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provides many quests for the player to embark on. Some of these lead to glory, others to huge rewards, and a select few lead to romance. After all, with all of the killing leaving Geralt of Rivia with a heavy heart he more than deserves a bit of love. One of these quests involves everyone’s favorite raven-haired NPC, Yennefer.
Yennefer is a sorceress who was once the love of Geralt, and is bound to him by powerful forces. She is one of the several love interests in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and one of the few characters who has a really deep history with our protagonist. Naturally, many of the game’s main story quests involve Yennefer in one way or another, but you will have the opportunity to participate in a personal quest for her. The quest is titled Last Wish (recommended level 15) and can be done immediately after completing the main quest that earns you the Necromancer trophy/achievement. This is a completely optional mission that can be missed should you decide to continue the main story instead of meeting her beforehand. If you want to know how it all plays out, immediately head to Larvik after dealing completing The Calm Before The Storm.
Once you meet up with her she will lead you to a boat (one she insists on steering), and explain to you part of her quest. As always, Yennefer is pretty sparse with the details, always holding the cards extremely close to her chest. All you do know is that she needs the help of a Djinn, and in order to obtain that help she needs to find an important artifact hidden in the water. She will bring Geralt to three locations where he must search the water’s floor. Don’t worry about breathing under water though, Yennefer is kind enough to cast a spell on you so that you can swim without the threat of drowning, although you still need to worry about Drowners (one of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s more annoying enemy types).
Eventually you will find half of a boat that houses half of a seal. This is the item you were looking for, and it will allow Yen to locate the other half. This is around the time when Yen will finally tell you what she wants from the Djinn. You see, a long time ago Geralt wished that Yennefer will always be a part of his life. A powerful magic now binds them, and Yennefer now wonders if what they have is love, or are they both just puppets in this elaborate spell. At this point you can either agree with her logic or express your disappointment, entirely up to you, but wouldn’t you rather know whether or not what you have with Yen is real?
Once everything is in order, Yennefer will create a portal taking both of you to the location of the other half of the seal (as well as the boat). You’ll have to do a bit of searching here, and you would be wise to loot everything since there are quite a few alchemic ingredients laying around. When you’re ready, head to the bottom of the boat and interact with the knocked over bookcase. It is here that you will find the body of the Djinn’s previous master as well as the second half of the seal. Bring it up to Yennefer and she will summon the Djinn, now Geralt will have to keep it occupied while Yennefer tries to trap this powerful specter.
The Djinn is very similar to the numerous Wraiths you’ve undoubtedly faced in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt during your travels. It will teleport around, will be difficult to see at times, and does a considerable amount of damage. Dimeritium Bombs will help against all of it’s magical abilities, and some Specter Oil will increase your damage against the Djinn, shortening the length of the fight. Quen is always useful, especially since you don’t have the largest battle area, and the Djinn is unnervingly quick. Once you claim victory Yennefer will trap it in an orb of magic and proceed to make her wish.
After she convinces the Djinn to undo Geralt’s wish from all those years ago you will speak to Yennefer once more. You will now have the ability to seal the deal and confess your love to the woman who has been by your side for years. Or, you can be a total jerk and say you don’t really feel anything for her at all. Whatever you choose to do, you have now completed Yennefer’s personal quest.
There you have it, another romantic questline in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt completed. Did you decide to help Yennefer with her endeavor? Did you profess your love afterwards?
