So you’ve been playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and have been utilizing our Beginner’s Guide to get you through the harsh brutality of the open world. In that guide, we told you about abusing the Fulton Recovery System to capture as many soldiers and animals as you possibly can. But you can do even more than that with Metal Gear Solid V: TPP‘s most useful tool.
After Mission 10, players will be able to upgrade the Fulton Recovery System to pick up much heavier items, like vehicles. Vehicles are awesome because you can drive them, use them for stealth, weaponize them, and just have a collection that makes you seem like a snob. But, lifting heavy items provides one other tactical benefit: you can ride them.
In the middle of somewhere you probably shouldn’t be? See an armored vehicle? Fulton it out of there, but make sure to hop aboard before it goes. You just got yourself a quick getaway and your enemies will stand in awe and adoration is you float away somewhere beyond the mountain tops.
Metal Gear Solid V: TPP has some pretty impressive AI. The game actually adapts to your playstyle, ensuring that no matter what you do, it will provide a hearty challenge. For instance, go around killing a lot of soldiers and you will find that the enemy forces have supplied their ranks with heavy armor and stronger weapons. This, of course, makes things much more difficult for the player.
But Metal Gear Solid V: TPP is about giving players options, and some of those options allow you to circumvent the enemy’s ability to get over on you. Dispatch Missions and Side Ops allow you to target weapon and armor supplies, communications, and more. When used properly, you can continue your game however you see fit and constantly cut your opponents strategies down at the core.
So, when you’re out there going on rampages, knocking everyone’s blocks off, be sure to check your missions for opportunities to keep them from wisening up.
Supply Drops in Metal Gear Solid V: TPP are extremely useful when out in the field. They can get you ammo, weapons, and items when you find yourself in a pinch which may happen quite often if you’re the type to find yourself jumping into battle guns blazing. But aside from keeping you well stocked in all the latest stealth infiltration gear, they can serve as a rather potent knockout agent.
Mark an enemy soldier and call in a supply drop to witness a grown man getting knocked out in the most embarrassing way. It’s even useful against much stronger opponents. Take a look at Quiet, for instance. She’s a tough sniper who won’t hesitate to kill anyone trying to get too close. But, with the use of your handy dandy Supply Drops you can take her out in two hits without ever batting an eyelash.
It isn’t free, so don’t expect to use it on every single soldier out there; unless, of course, you’re okay with grinding out some GMP. But, it is a fun way to interact with enemies in Metal Gear Solid V: TPP, as well as a means to some very difficult ends.
Some fans of the Metal Gear Solid series are very adamant about not killing anyone during the game. For this reason they tend to rely heavily on tranquilizers and CQC. Unfortunately tranquilizers don’t work on every enemy. Heavily armored foes are immune because the dart never actually breaks the skin, making them pretty annoying when you’re trying to infiltrate a space without making a scene. Shooting one of these guys will do nothing but alert them, making everything all the more difficult.
Get used to using alternative means of non-lethal takedowns. The E-Stun Decoy and the Prosthetic Arm are both valuable in taking down any foe, armored or not. While the former can be placed in an area to draw enemies away before taking them out, the latter is perfect for when you stumble across an unsuspecting guard and don’t feel the need to wast ammunition (or even your suppressor durability).
Getting too comfortable with solely one means of accomplishing a task will make life difficult for you in the later parts of Metal Gear Solid V: TPP, so branch out and put some soldiers to sleep.
Metal Gear Solid V: TPP introduces the Buddy System. This is a system that allows players to bring or call in special soldiers to assist in Ops. There are four seriously awesome buddies that each bring their own benefits to the field and should be used whenever the time calls for it.
Diamond Dog is perfect for stealthy infiltration since he’s extremely useful inside of bases, while Quiet is the best scout you can ask for and can pick off targets with ease. You have to put in the work to obtain each and every one of them, so you may as well reap the benefits they provide. Boss doesn’t have to do everything alone, so work out some strategies and up your stealth game.
These tips and tricks will help you overcome the late game obstacles that you’re sure to encounter. Using everything at your disposal is key, so always check your menus. In time, you will strike fear into the hearts of every enemy out there as you reclaim your title as Big Boss.
