Sleeping Dogs: The Zodiac Tournament Walkthrough

Intro

Unlike the last content pack, Nightmare in North Point, the Zodiac Tournament takes place in the regular Sleeping Dogs world. To start it, load a previous save game.

We recommend you don’t start The Zodiac Tournament side-quest until after about the halfway point of the game.

If you’ve purchased and downloaded the pack, you’ll get a text message from Inspector Teng telling you that a Ferry leaves from Central, taking you to a mysterious island where illegal fighting is taking place.

Open your map, and set a waypoint on the orange fist near the Drainage Outflow Hub in Central. Go there to begin the tournament, and the DLC.

At the ferry, you’ll know it’s the right place when you spot the waiting martial arts characters. Step onto the orange marker to start the DLC.

Zodiac Tournament

Welcome to Zodiac Island. Your first order of business is taking the stairs up ahead to enter the Temple in the center of the island. But, there’s something you’ll want to see first.

Just ahead, to your right, you’ll find a shrine with a collectible item. There are 11 Fire Opal Statues around the island. Find all 12, and you’ll gain special new moves and bonuses.

After collecting the statue, run up the steps toward the orange waypoint. Past the first landing, look left for a path off the steps. There’s a gate, but keep turning left to find a small building with two men training. Enter through the metal gate to find a second Fire Opal Statue.

Continue up the steps to reach a cutscene. After the introduction, you’ll need to speak with the other fighters. There’s a marker over each of them, just check your map and look for characters with chat bubbles over their heads.

Talk to a handful of fighters – you don’t need to talk to them all. Once you’ve spoken to three of them, the Tournament Master will appear at the Temple’s entrance. Speak with him to continue, or finish talking to the rest of the scattered fighters first.

Travel left of the temple to find another small building with an unlocked gate. Grab the Fire Opal Statue inside before continuing on.

Beware! Talking to the big thug in the left corner will initiate a fight. This brawler is best fought by countering his attack, then going into a combo while he’s open.

When you talk to the Tournament Master, the first round of combat will begin.

Wei will appear in a bloody chamber surrounded by rich fans. There are four thugs inside, itching to beat you down.

The first wave is fairly simple. Just remember to counter and combo, and these four won’t be an issue.

Don’t miss out on the powerful environmental hazard in the center of the arena. Grab a bad guy and walk him into the grill in the center to defeat him instantly.

Using the grill hazard will also spout flame from four holes in the arena. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch an enemy standing over one of these fire spouts, defeating them instantly.

With each round, more enemies will appear. By the third round, you’ll have to deal with Grapplers. If you don’t remember, they’re fat thugs that can’t be grabbed. They’re your biggest threat, save up your Face Meter – when it’s full, go all out on the Grapplers.

Once you’ve defeated all three rounds, you’ll move onto the next mission.

Cliffhanger

To start the next mission, go to the waypoint to the right of the temple.

On the way there, grab another Fire Opal Statue down the path, near the rock wall, before turning right and moving to the gates.

Down the steps past the waypoint, look for a path to your right. Through the rocky side-path is another Fire Opal Statue.

The path to the next arena is treacherous. You’ll need to jump over rocks, climb up to the bridge, and jump across the gap with the hanging man. Too bad you can’t save him. Continue toward the orange marker.

Past the marker, a trap will pop out of the ground! Jump it, and continue on, looking left of the path for an opening. The opening leads down into a lower area with yet another Fire Opal Statue. Take it, and climb back up to the main path.

Ahead, there are two more traps to avoid and a small river to cross. Ahead, you’ll need to use the wooden cliffside bridge to reach a cave, cross another bridge, and you’ll finally near the arena.

Past a few more traps is the entrance to the arena, through an unlocked gate.

This is a length fight, so come prepared. Look around – you’ll find two types of environmental hazards. The spikes around the corners of the arena, and the gong. Use both types of hazards to thin out the weaker enemies easily and gain some quick Face.

This battle will also involve Brawlers. These tougher fighters do more damage, and make your life trickier with their more frequent guards. But, they can still be grabbed. Pick them out by their brown face-covering masks.

Defeat enough opponents, including the yellow-clad contestants, and the main threat will appear. The special fighter in white/red shorts is a problem.

The boss doesn’t go down easily, and he’ll guard everything you throw at him. Don’t let him grab you, or he’ll pull off multiple damaging attacks.

Also, don’t try to grab him. It won’t work. Instead, you’ll want to counter or break through his guard with power attacks. Hold down the attack button to break through his guard.

Running power-kicks will also break through his guard and give you an opening to strike. But, it’s best to weave around him and counter when he flashes red.

Once he’s open to attack, just keep wailing on him until he’s stunning. When stunning, grab him and attack once to enter a special QTE. Keep hitting attack until he’s down for good.

Helping Hand

The next mission points you toward the beach. You’ll reappear in the central Temple, just run toward the orange marker to find the gate with the path leading down toward the beach.

Left of the marker, you can grab another Fire Opal Statue if you haven’t already. Otherwise, run through the gate left of the temple and down the jungle path.

The path is fairly uneventful. Travel down, and don’t sprint, and you’ll be able to avoid the few traps in your way.

Down the steps to the beach, Little Fu will call you over and offer some tea. Before you take it, check an alcove to her left to find another Fire Opal Statue.

Now it’s time to accept the tea. But! It’s a trick! You’ll be drugged, and a boat will drop off some thugs to take you out. Fight the two goons and Grappler before following the path on the right side of the beach toward the arena proper.

Your vision will get worse as you travel through the jungle path toward the next waypoint. But, keep your eyes right as you pass two guards. There’s another side-path with a Fire Opal Statue path them, at the top of the stairs before you continue down.

Down on the beach, Wei will have to fight George. While this boss isn’t incredibly tough, you will have some disadvantages. Due to the poison, you can’t move around the arena quickly.

More importantly, Wei won’t be able to see when George flashes red for an attack. You’ll have to watch his movements and counter when you see him attempt a strike.

Like the previous boss, George has a special grapple you don’t want to get caught in. But, unlike the previous boss, you can grab George and perform special attacks on him from there. Sadly, there are no environmental hazards here.

Once George is stunned, grab him and finish him off with an attack.

A friendly contestant will tell Wei about a cure for the poison after the fight. Stumble onto the pier and get on the boat to search.

Pilot the boat and drive toward the marker. The waypoint is located ahead on a small beach between two outcroppings of rock. Jump out of the boat when you hit the waypoint, and stumble toward the flowers to the right of the shore.

Last Man Standing

After picking the flowers, you’ll reappear on a beach. The sky is tinted red, which is never a good sign.

Run ahead toward the waypoint, up the steps, and into the rena. The next stage of the tournament has already started!

Inside the Temple of Death, the three contestants will fight the armies of Zodiac Island. Don’t worry about the contestants, they’re on your side.

Instead, focus on the goons and Brawlers. The Brawlers are armed with butcher knives, making them an immediate threat. Avoid them, or wait until you can counter.

Once the first Brawler is down, grab his knife and take out the second. Defeat the rest of the thugs to begin the second phase.

The Master of the Tournament begins the next battle – you’re under a time limit! The ceiling of spikes is dropping, if you want to survive, you’ll need to defeat the last three contestants before it crushes everyone.

These three tough opponents are; a Brawler, a Grappler, and a regular enemy. All three are tougher than the usual thugs you’ve faced so far, so play carefully and don’t let them hit you.

You’ll have to be fast! Also, just as the fight starts, you can slow the ceiling’s drop by throwing guards into the giant spinning gears. That will stop the ceiling for a few moments until the ceiling begins to shake again.

Don’t bother trying to break the Grappler’s guard, and don’t try to grab any of the three main contestants. You can’t throw any of the main three into the gears.

Instead, use counters and pummel them one by one. Use combo strings and finish with power attacks for the most damage.

Either way, this fight is tricky. Be quick, and you’ll manage to end the fight just before being crushed.

Endgame

With the battle complete, the next mission will begin. You’re still trapped inside the Temple of Death, but all it takes is running into the gate to exit.

Ahead, the Tournament Master will make a break for it. Follow him! Beware of lightning strikes, you’ll spot them by the white light on the ground. Like all chases, this is all about hitting those parkour moments at just the right time. Hit the run button as you approach, and don’t press twice, to smoothly vault and climb.

Eventually, you’ll reach the Cliff-side Arena. The Master will take another swig of alcohol, and show off his drunken kung-fu techniques.

The Master is a tough opponent, he isn’t stunned by powerful attacks, and will attack low. All of his moves are very deadly, and he can use them quickly.

To avoid losing here, it’s best to play defensively. Use Counters, but you can also Grab him when the time is right.

When he’s defeated, you’ll be able to return to the island and collect any Fire Opal Statues you’ve missed.

For winning, you’ll unlock the Muay Thai Outfit, the Mixed Martial Arts Outfits, and the ability to see Fire Opal Statues on your minimap.

Congratulations! You’ve completed The Zodiac Tournament and stopped the illegal fighting ring.
