Though he’s been (re) immortalized in video game countless times, 2011′s Thor: God of Thunder takes Marvel’s mega-budgeted big-screen adaptation as its particular source material. A third-person action game by Liquid Entertainment (PS3, 360) and Red Fly (Wii), the title will feature the Norse deity battling his way through snowy, Scandinavian fiction, battling trolls, giants, and monstrous bosses in the process.
Though the blond hero’s famed hammer Mjolnir makes him a formidable foe, even for a hulking giant, Thor: God of Thunder is likely to provide some thorny challenges — the handiwork of Thor’s nefarious brother Loki, no doubt. Take advantage of this full walkthrough to sort them out! We also have lists of achievements and trophies.
Chapter 1: The Jotun Raid
Follow the onscreen instructions and kill the first wave of Jotun by pressing X to use your hammer. For the next wave of Jotun, tap Y to use Lightning Strikes to kill them.
Once again, follow the onscreen instructions to learn how to throw Thor’s hammer, then go from pillar to pillar and kill each Jotun by throwing the hammer at them.
For the Frost Giant, follow the series of onscreen instructions to learn new moves that will help you throughout the course of the game (the Thunder Shield is particularly fun to use).
After you finish off the Frost Giant and the surrounding Jotun, you’ll have to kill three more Frost Giants. The trouble here is that you’ll have to fill your Fury Meter by killing enemies. Once it is full, press RB to unleash it and kill the remaining enemies.
Following the cutscene, aim the camera toward the glowing indicator to perform a Mjolnir Leap. When the indicator begins to spin, press RB to perform the leap.
Following the cutscene, head down the path and kill the three Jotun. Continue down the path, destroying the green icicles along the way to earn blue orbs. Once you get to the bridge, perform a Mjolnir Burst to hop over the gap.
Perform another Mjolnir Burst over the gap toward the glowing point on the ledge to get across, then head through the doors. Head down the hallway and continue to tap Y to perform a Wind Blast to prevent from being encased in ice.
Once you reach the next room, walk toward the Health Runestone (the red thing on the wall) and hold B to release health Runes. Turn around and wait for the big door to open, then head across the bridge.
After you kill the one of the two Frost Giants, your Fury Meter should be full. Once it is, activate it to kill the other one. Grab the the floating Mjolnir sphere, then look toward the glowing indicator and perform a Mjolnir Leap.
For this next part, perform a hammer throw in the direction of the four green lights to destroy the barricade of icicles, then kill the Jotun that appear. Follow the onscreen instructions to collect the Runes, then perform a Mjolnir Leap.
After you enter the building, save your game using the Save Runestone. Walk around and use the Valor Runestone to release bonus Valor. This part might be frustrating, but you have to get both wheels spinning in sync in order to release the Valor. It might take you a couple of tries (why they made this so difficult…*sigh*).
Turn around and head outside. Perform a Mjolnir Leap to get to the next area. For this group of enemies you’ll have to grapple all 10 of them to destroy them.
After you kill the first eight, walk around the room and destroy all of the icicles to receive various Runes. Then walk over to the purple Runestone to restore Thor’s health and Odinforce.
ACHIEVEMENT: Position yourself so that you are standing right in front of the icicle barrier and tap Y to break it down. You’ll then get the chance to acquire an upgrade and when you do you’ll earn the “Valorous” Achievement.
Head through the big double doors and kill the two Frost Giants by destroying their armor first. If you see a glowing light in the middle of their chests, perform a grapple attack to finish them off. After you defeat them, run toward the center structure and press B.
If the first two Frost Giants with armor were easy, this part will be a little trickier. If you are ever feeling overwhelmed, use Thunder Breaker (X X Y) to knock down multiple enemies. You can also find some extra health at the edge of the platform.
Boss time. Frost Goliath is huge, but not overly difficult. Use combo attacks against his legs while dodging his hand swipes. Once you see a gold light above his left had, perform a grapple, then follow the onscreen directional arrows (a la God of War) and destroy his shoulder either using melee or power attacks.
Repeat this process several times to slay the beast. Keep in mind that you want to stay to the side or get behind him to inflict the most damage without getting hit.
Chapter 2: Vengeance
Test out your new Lightning Storm power and destroy the attacking enemies down the path. Following the two cutscenes, head down the path towards the dude with the crazy horns on his head.
In order to activate the Bitfrost Bridge, walk onto the center of the platform and use both the left and right toggle sticks to rotate both wheels. The trick is to get both to spin at the same speed.
ACHIEVEMENT: Once both of them are spinning at the same speed (they should both be red), the wheel beneath you will also spin and Bitfrost will activate. By completing this task you will earn the “Set in Motion” Achievement by completing Asgard.
To start this level off, go to the Valor screen to give yourself an upgrade. Walk up to the blue diamond on the right and hold B to collect the Runes. Continue up the path and destroy the green icicles along the way to earn extra Runes.
Walk to the edge of the cliff, look down towards the glowing ring and perform a Mjolnir Leap to get to the other side.
Chapter 3: Best Served Cold
More Frost Giants here, but with all your moves now, they shouldn’t be a huge problem. Also, keep on eye on the Fury Meter—when it’s full, unleash it do kill all of your enemies.
Next, you’ll have to fight off a much larger, second wave of Frost Giants. Again, Lightning Storm works great to knock enemies down, and grapple attacks are good when you get the chance because surrounding enemies can hurt you while you are performing your grapple attack.
You’ll notice that there will be a ton of Frost Monsters here, but keep your eyes out for when Thor’s Fury meter is full again, then loose another power surge. The surge will carry on, so continue to kill the rest of the Jotun as quickly as possible.
After you clear the area, a door leading into the nearby cave will open. However, before you enter, look up and to the right and perform a Mjolnir Leap toward the glowing ring on the ledge.
Jump to the ledge on the left and bash the green icicles to earn extra Runes, as well as a Niflheim collectable. Drop down, move around the perimeter of the area to collect a few purple Runes, then head into the cave.
Head down the path, making sure to destroy all green icicles to earn extra Runes along the way. When you come to the point with the green icicles hanging from the center of the ceiling, perform a hammer throw to cause it to break and pick up the Niflheim collectable.
Before you make a turn to the right, you’ll find a Valor Runestone hidden inside a large patch of icicles. Like before, use the two analog sticks to rotate the wheels until they are spinning the same speed and match the color of the center wheel.
Continue down the path. Following the cutscene, proceed forward to the right, but watch out for the wind blast. When the wind dies down, proceed forward. Repeat this process as you move forward and simply use hammer throws to kill those pesky Jotun.
Once you get to the grapple point between the two green patches of icicles, jump up to the grapple point, jump up again and perform a Mjolnir Burst down the tunnel while there isn’t a gust of wind coming at you.
In the next area you’ll have to fight…what a surprise—more Frost Giants. However, these ones are a little tricker as they will throw shards of glass at you, so keep your finger on LT to block.
After you kill the three of them and the river has been frozen over, turn back toward the frozen waterfall and shatter it. Head inside the enclave and pick up the Niflheim collectable.
Head back out and down the frozen river. Use the grapple point on the right wall to use the Valor Runestone on the small ledge. Drop down and continue on to the next area.
The new Earthquake power (left arrow for Thunder, then hold Y) will work wonders here. Stand in between the Frost Giants and unleash the power to watch the whole group crumble.
After you kill them, continue to quickly move around the area and don’t get caught standing in one of the pools of light, or else you’ll end up with a pile of ice spikes through your body.
Kill off the next wave of Jotun that appears and while your at it, destroy the green patches of icicles around the perimeter to stock up on Runes.
After you kill off another wave of Jotun, the ice spikes will come a lot quicker. Keep moving! About midway through the fighting of this wave of Jotun, Thor will blast away that menacing ice skull.
Enter through the cave on the left. Destroy the green icicle path and grab onto the grapple point to get up to the next ledge. Head down the path to the next area.
Chapter 4: The Spire
Turn to the right and hold B while standing next to the blue diamond to save your game. Turn left and perform a Mjolnir Leap to get up on the nearby ledge. After you head through the cave, drop off the ledge.
Destroy the green icicle patches, then turn right into the river. Move quickly here, but watch out for the blue ice barriers that will randomly shoot up. Turn left and hop up the step by doing a Mjolnir Burst.
Quickly break out of the ice that freezes over you and run to the rock platform in the center of the frozen river. After the blue ice barrier passes you buy and shatters the other barrier, hop up the next couple steps and continue on.
After the waterfall freezes over, break out of the ice and perform two hammer throws to destroy the first Jade Turret. Watch the ground for pools of light and make sure not to get in the way of any protruding ice daggers that will pop up.
Move to the right side of the frozen waterfall and use the grapple point to get up onto the ledge. Time your jump so that the blue ice that comes shooting out from behind the wall will pass you right as you jump. Quickly move to the center and use the next grapple point to help you get to the top.
ACHIEVEMENT: Turn down the cave to the right. Once back outside, use LT to reflect the projectiles being fired at you back towards the Jotun to kill them. Kill all them to earn the “Sharpshooter” Achievement. Don’t forget to pick up the Runes!
Quickly cross the bridge before it breaks. Boss time again. This one is pretty much like the last one, except he’ll hurl ice blasts at you and he’ll also swipe you following his ground pounds.
Like last time, after you inflict a little bit of damage, look for the tiny glowing light on either of his arms and engage in a grapple to begin the minigame. Repeat this process over and over to strip the beast of his armor. (Hint: Using hammer throws is tedious, but you won’t have to worry about getting swiped from afar.)
After you have you have destroyed two large pieces of his armor, you’ll notice that his armor will regenerate. Unfortunately, he will do this several times over, so get ready for some button smashing. Underground ice spikes will also start to pop up, which will temporarily freeze you, so don’t get caught standing still.
Once more than half of his armor has been destroyed, go for the shoulders. After all his armor has been destroyed, employ a few moves (Earthquake, Thunder Breaker, ect.) to inflict more damage. A couple Earthquake blasts will also temporarily stun him, thus giving you an easy opportunity to perform a grapple attack.
After you defeat the Goliath Jotun, run toward the two Jade Turrets that come out of the wall and use hammer throws to destroy them. Perform a Mjolnir Leap toward the gold ring on the right.
Save your game, then walk onto the ice, jump in the air and smash it. Turn back to the left and grab the grapple point on the ice with light coming out of it, then jump out and grab the Niflheim collectable.
As you begin to head down the tunnel, time your sprint accordingly so that you can reach a grapple point before the incoming ice spikes hit you. There will also be enclaves on the left side of the wall to hide in.
Destroy the green icicle patch and hold B while standing on the red center circle. Head through the double doors and up the winding path. Destroy to the two Jade Turrets as you make your way up.
Once on the next platform, kill all of the Jotun that appear to destroy the barrier on the next platform. Jump onto that platform, stand near the red center circle and hold B to destroy the frame around the Jade Accelerator.
Perform an arial attack to destroy the Jade Accelerator. Destroy the Jade Turret off in the distance, then perform a Mjolnir Leap when you see the gold ring appear. Jump up to the grapple point, then jump straight up to get on the ledge to the right.
Walk up the path and kill the Jotun in front of the ice barrier. Perform an arial hammer swing in the middle of the ice barrier, then walk through and perform another Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring off in the distance.
Kill the Jotun, break through the barrier and head up the path. Hold B when you get to the next red emblem on the ground, then destroy the Jade Accelerator. Perform a Mjolnir Burst over the gap and continue up the path.
Destroy the Jade Turret up on the left wall, then perform a Mjolnir Leap when the gold ring appears. Continue up the path, but watch out for the ice spikes that come out of the ground (look out for smoke coming up from the ground to know where the spikes are going to come from).
Once you make it through, use the Valor Runestone on the left, then hop up the three steps, but watch out for the ice spikes that will come shooting out of the wall. Once you get to the third step, quickly jump up to the grapple point and hop up to the platform above.
Destroy the Jade Turret and break through the ice barrier at the end of the path. Jump into the wind turbine, which will carry you up to the next platform.
Kill the lone Jotun up on the platform, then destroy the ice barrier to the left and head through. Stock up on some Runes and head up the path.
For the first part of this area, you’ll have to energize the four columns to bring down the defenses around the Jade Accelerator. Run around to all four and hold B until the red light turns completely blue.
Of course, while you are doing this you will be pestered by various Jotun, so take them out when necessary. With the Jade Accelerator now exposed, move toward it and hit it with several hammer throws to destroy it.
Turn around towards the edge of the platform and perform a Mjolnir Leap to the golden ring off in the distance.
Chapter 5: Deep Freeze
Turn around to the right and quickly load up on some Runes. Turn around and destroy the two turrets by blocking their laser shots back toward them. Sprint down the path, making sure to watch out for laser shots from the ice skull’s eyes and perform an arial attack right into his face.
Head down the hallway and perform a Mjolnir Leap up toward the golden ring on top of the ice platform. Quickly time several Mjolnir Bursts to get from platform to platform to get the orb at the end. Move quickly, because the platforms will shatter if you stand on them for too long.
Get some Runes from the Runestone on the left, then head through the doorway at the other end of the hallway. For the first part of this area, you will need to destroy the surrounding ice columns on the perimeter of the area.
Use Thunder Trench (left arrow then press Y) to quickly destroy the columns. Once you have them destroyed, Ymir will finally show up. Block his ice bursts by holding LT and then get in a few hammer throws in between.
The only thing you have to keep in mind is to not get too close when Ymir does his ground pound. Also, watch out for the surrounding fog that arises because it will temporarily freeze you.
Continue to deflect Ymir’s ice bursts back at him and add in a Lightning Storm attack here and there to inflict more damage. Once Ymir’s health is about three-fourths gone and there is a gold light on the floor near him, approach him and perform a grapple attack to finish him off.
Following your discussion with Loki, walk toward the the platform in front of the Cave of Ages. Hold B while standing on the platform and…well look who’s back. This time Ymir will have a few new tricks up his sleeve.
Jump up and continue to perform Mjolnir Bursts to avoid his ice beams. After Ymir punches the ground, maneuver around the patches of ice, perform one of Thor’s Thunder attacks, then when you see the gold ring of the floor, perform a grapple attack.
From there, continue to deflect his ice bursts back toward him and once you get his health down about a fourth of the way, he will evaporate. After he does, quickly run back to the emblem and hold down B.
Unfortunately, you will be interrupted by Ymir again. As before, get his health down to about a quarter of the way and then once he evaporates, quickly run back to the emblem and finish opening the cave.
ACHIEVEMENT: If you are able to open the Cave of Ages in under four minutes, you will have earned the “Spelunker” Achievement.
ACHIEVEMENT: Following the cutscene you will also earn the “Reap What You Sow” Achievement for completing Niflheim.
Run and jump into the green vortex. In this new world, turn around and grab the Vanaheim Gatherer. Turn back around and head for the semicircle double doors. Hold B to use your hammer to open the doors, then head inside.
Chapter 6: The Ruins
After you drop off the ledge, move over to the left to use the Valor Runestone. You’ll be ambushed by Leechweeds that will pop up out of the water. Destroy them, then proceed to use the Runestone.
Head back up the broken path, then once you get to the top, perform a Mjolnir Leap toward the gold ring. Skraelings? Whatever these things are, there no difficult that the Jotun. Take them out, then hold B to open the doors using your hammer.
After you enter the room that looks like something out of Star Wars, run around to the other side and use the Runestone on the wall. Turn around and walk out onto the small platform.
Walk out onto the center platform. After listing to that mumbo-jumbo, walk straight onto the platform in front of you and proceed through the sets of double doors.
Destroy all enemies in this area and don’t forget to get the Vanaheim Gatherer up in the tree to the left (use a hammer throw to take it down). After the area is clear, head through the partially tilted doorway.
Hop up the steps on the wall to the right, alternating back and forth from left to right to ascend to the top. Drop down to the next area, turn left and kill the Skraelings down the path.
Following the cutscene, head down this new path and hop up the rocks to pick up another Vanaheim Gatherer. Now in Aimed Throw Mode, look up and throw your hammer at the spore pods wrapped around the two columns.
Head through the newly created hole in the wall. Head down the tunnel and jump up onto the ledge at the dead end. Hop down in front of the door and hold B to turn the red light blue.
Move around to the left, use the Valor Runestone, then hop down into the swamp area below. Destroy all enemies here, then perform a ground pound on the pedestal with light coming off the top of it.
Swamp Trolls! These guys look scarier than they are. Perform one Thunder attack to finish both of them off. Perform another ground pound on the pedestal, then turn around and head for the door with the red icon. Hold B to turn the icon blue.
Head down the path to the right. Hold B on the backside of the grey statue to light up the red icon blue. Head back down the path (it’s dark here, so watch out for the edge and don’t fall in the water) and into the semicircle double doors on the wall to the left.
Hold B to break out of the rubble that comes down on you, then proceed to open the doors. Like before, head onto the the platform, then head through the next set of double doors that opens up for you.
Head down the pathway and kill the Skraelings on the right side of the swamp. Continue heading down the path and pickup the Vanaheim Gatherer in the left corner of the swamp, but watch out for the Leechweeds that will pop up.
Continue down the end of the pathway and hop up the rock. Move up until the dead end, then jump to the right, grab the grapple point, jump straight in the air and perform a Mjolnir Thrust toward the doorway.
Drop down into the next area and follow on the a onscreen advice to defeat the two Swamp Trolls. Head through the double doors and quickly make your way down the pathway and up the rock steps (Note: The green gas will take away health, so move quickly).
Once you reach the top platform, turn around and perform a Mjolnir Thrust toward the red icon and energize it with your hammer. Turn to the right and open the double doors.
Turn right and save your game, then walk to the edge and perform a Mjolnir Leap up toward the platform with the the Skraelings. Kill the two Swamp Giants and the rest of the Skraelings to face the Mire Giant.
The Mire Giant may be huge, but his big legs cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. If you can, pick up the orb, which will give you a power-up and use Thunder Trenches to take away some health.
The only thing you have to watch out for (other than fist swipes) is when the Giant pounds the ground and begins to charge after you. After this happens, time will slow down and the camera will zoom in. Performa a counter arial attack to hit him under the chin.
Once only a fourth of his health is remaining, look for the gold light on his chest and perform a grapple attack. You will have to pry back his fingers by alternating between LT and RT, then finish to completing the minigame to slay him.
Hop onto the Skiff and steer it down the river (don’t bother fighting the Skraelings). After you place the core in place, head down the neon-lit path.
Following the cutscene, the path behind you will start to burn away. Use Mjolnir Thrusts to quickly get down the path. Random fireballs will besiege you and destroy the path. When this happens, quickly get back to your feet and Mjolnir Thrust your way back down the path.
Follow the path all the way down until you reach the platform to complete the chapter.
Chapter 7: The River
Kill the surrounding Skraelings, along with the two Swamp Giants. During your fighting, a boat will pull up with more enemies—take them out as well using hammer throws.
With the area clear, walk toward that huge bundle of plants (?) and press B to push them in the river. Jump on the Barge, hop up the steps and steer the Mire Giant down the river.
Use hammer throws as you make your way down to destroy enemies. To preserve the Giant’s health (and your own), press Y to force it to charge through certain areas where you are taking heavy fire.
Once you get to the part where the Skraelings hop on their airboats, steer the Giant toward the red plant in the middle of the river (it will revitalize its health) and take out the airboats with hammer throws.
Continue down the river taking out airboats and other enemies along the way before reaching Frostgrinder. Use hammer throws to blow up the bombs that the Clan Trolls send toward you, then hit them with a couple of hammer throws as well.
Once your ride comes to an end, perform a Mjolnir Leap toward the gold ring above the platform. Kill the Skraelings, save your game, then turn around so that you are facing the Barge, move toward the edge and press B to investigate the malfunctioning lift.
Press B to kick off six or seven bombs off into the river, then stand on the opening to the lift, aim for the closest or second closest bomb and perform a hammer throw to set of a chain reaction explosion.
Perform a Mjolnir Leap back to the Barge, then continue to take it down the river. Make sure to pick up the Vanaheim Gatherer, which will also increase your maximum health.
Once you make it a little further down the river and the Barge comes to a halt, perform a Mjolnir Thrust to the left and head down the path. Use the Runestone at the end, then turn right.
Use the grapple point to get up the ledge. Following the brief cutscene, hurry up the path and use the grapple point at the end to get up to the next area. Perform a huge Lightning attack (or whatever area you have the most runes invested) to take out all of the Skraelings and the first Mortar in a single shot.
Drop down into the next area, turn left at the flame and head over the makeshift bridge across to the other side. Use the grapple point to get up to the next area. Grapple the Clan Troll when its equipment malfunctions, then like last time, perform a lightning attack to kill all enemies and destroy the second Mortar.
Walk to the edge of the next area and perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring. Use hammer throws to kill the Skraelings down the path, then use the grapple point to get up the wall.
Repeat like last time: grapple the two Clan Trolls, Lightning attack to destroy the third mortar. Next, walk to the edge and perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring.
Destroy the fourth mortar here, then kill the Skraelings that appear behind the wall that crumbles. Stand in the middle of the generator and hold B to turn it on. Turn left down the path and use several Mjolnir Thrusts to get back on the Barge.
Chapter 8: Frostgrinder
ACHIEVEMENT: Once you dock at the next platform, you’ll have to defeat another Mire Giant. But instead of going through the whole fighting process, if you walk to the emblem shown at the end of the cutscene and energize it, the Giant will walk away and you’ll earn the “Gentle Giant” Achievement.
Defeat the two Clan Trolls that show up, then head to the generator and turn it on. After you get pulled up to the next level, head straight down the path and perform a Mjolnir Leap toward the gold ring across the gap.
Head straight through the dark area (it might be kind of hard to see here), make your way towards the flame, turn left and drop down to where the energy cells are. Destroy the energy cells and the Skraelings, then head down the path.
Once you get back outside, deflect the blast back at the Skraeling, then perform a Mjolnir Leap up towards the gold ring. Kill the surrounding Skraelings (along with the one on the platform), then Mjolnir Leap up onto the platform.
Pull down the top of the generator lid to move the platform up. Head into the cave, pick up the Vanaheim Gatherer, then ground pound in the center of the cave. Open the two sets of doors, cross the neon-lit path and save your game.
Stand on the center platform and allow it to take you up. Walk around the perimeter and energize the five hourglass looking objects before opening the double doors.
Following the cutscene, head through the open doors and press B while standing the center platform. Turn around and smash through the broken door to the left.
Following another cutscene, kill the group of Clan Trolls along with the surrounding Skraelings. When the War Beast shows up, deflect his series of fireballs back toward him. (The laser won’t hurt you, it’s just a guide for the fireballs.)
You’ll notice that this boss’ moves are similar to that of the Mire Giant’s in the end of Chapter 6. Because of this, fight him exactly the same. Watch out for arm swats and make you counter when he performs his gore maneuver.
The War Beast’s armor will take longer to destroy, but you will have more opportunities to perform grapple maneuvers. Once you slay him, head through the open double doors, save your game and head through the next set of doors.
Back-to-back bosses! Ulik looks tough, but don’t be intimidated. If you haven’t upgraded to it yet, Buzzsaw Throw works with him. Chuck a couple at him, then when he is stunned, grapple him to inflict more damage.
After you complete a grapple attack, he’ll jump up to the second level and you’ll have to dodge an energy cell that he’ll throw at you. Once you comes back down, keep your distance to avoid his ground punches that will send three lines of lasers toward you.
Continue to use Buzzsaw Throws to take away health and perform grapple attacks when he is stunned. Once all his health his gone, you’ll have to complete a short minigame to finally defeat him.
ACHIEVEMENT: Once you’ve killed Ulik, you will earn the “Sins of the Father” Achievement.
Now in this new area, destroy the lava plants behind you to earn some extra Runes, then energize the Runstone built into the rock wall to save your game. Turn left and head down the path.
Chapter 9: Firestarter
Press down on the right toggle stick to engage in Hammer Throw Mode and take out the two nearby drills in the sky. Turn right down the path and use the Runestone in the wall to the right.
Stand in the middle of the orange forcefield in front of the doorway and perform a Thunder Trench (Y) to destroy the generator behind the forcefield. Head inside and follow the path around.
Destroy the rock pile to the right of the lava-flow and drop down through the hole. Hop over the lava flow to the ground on the other side. Kill the Scorchers and Flying Scorchers in this area, then jump over the lava-flow to the ground on the other side.
Destroy the Ore Carrier (to the right of the lavafall), then perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring in order to pick up the Muspelheim Gatherer. Mjolnir Leap back across, then energize the door to open it.
Head through, turn left and Mjolnir Thrust out to the ground below. Kill the attacking Scorchers before picking up the Muspelheim Gatherer on the right. Jump back across and before heading down the path, use Wind Blast to blow away the heat gas.
Head down the path, cross the bridge and use the grapple point to get up to the next level. Head down the path and kill the Scorchers at the end of the tunnel. Destroy the rock barricade in front of the doorway to the right, then drop down below.
Mjolnir Thrust to the grapple point and make your way across. Turn left and use the grapple point to get up to the next level, then destroy the rock barrier and head down the path.
When you reach the gap, deflect the fireball blasts from the Flying Scorchers back at them, then Mjolnir Thrust across the gap. Perform a hammer throw at the rock barrier in the left corner to release the lava.
Perform a Mjolnir Thrust down and to the right over the edge. Kill the attacking Scorchers before heading straight down the path and jumping over the lava flow.
Turn left and kill the Flying Scorcher before performing a Mjolnir Thrust over the gap to the next area. Follow the lava path around where you will have to kill a large group of Scorchers. Once you’ve taken care of them, perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring.
Head down the tunnel. Wait for the lava flow to temporarily cease, then perform a Mjolnir Thrust. Repeat this until you get to the other side, then destroy the rock barrier.
Following the cutscene, jump out and perform a Mjolnir Thrust to get to the bottom. Proceed forward and redirect one of the incoming fireballs back at the drill.
Kill the surrounding Scorchers, as well as the Flame Giver. Their name implies their power—watch out when they fold their arms and send out a ring of fire. Jump over these and then take him out.
Perform a Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring after you clear the area. Energize the door to open it, then head through. Perform a perfectly timed Mjolnir Thrust to get across and onto the ridge.
Pick up the Muspelheim Gatherer, then perform a Mjolnir Thrust back to the right. Head down the path and energize the door at the end to open it.
Chapter 10: The Mine
Walk to the edge and perform a Mjolnir Thrust up to the far ledge. Kill the two Flame Guards by getting in a few hits, then perform grapple attacks when they are stunned. Use the Runestone near the wall, then go energize the Runic Diagram on the floor.
Perform a Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring above the drill, then energize it to destroy it. Look down and perform another Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring down below. Use hammer throws to attack the three attacking Burning Scorchers from the left, then kill the ones that will explode from the rock barrier to the right.
Use a hammer throw on the Ore Carrier, then pickup the Muspelheim Gatherer. Head around the left side of the nearby rock and energize the door to open it. Head down the path and open up the next door at the end.
Redirect the fireballs back at the two Flying Scorchers, then perform a Mjolnir Leap to gold ring. Turn left and kill the two Flying Scorchers to the left, then energize the drill. Mjolnir Leap to the next drill and do the same.
Mjolnir Leap down to the gold ring below. Kill the two Flame Guards and the Flame Giver in this next area. (For easy kills, try to knock them off the edge.) When you finish them, take care of the next wave of enemies that show up.
Perform a Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring and energize the drill. Perform a Mjolnir Leap to the next area and kill the attacking enemies. Next, destroy the attacking Ore Carriers, but make sure to keep moving around so they don’t hit you with their fire balls.
After you destroy them all, perform a Mjolnir Leap up to the ledge. Turn left and perform another one down to the are with the Flame Guard. After you kill him, energize the Runic Diagram, then Mjolnir Leap back to other side.
Mjolnir Leap to the drill to energize it, then Mjolnir Leap once again back up to the ledge and head through the now open pathway. Use the Runestone in the wall, then use Wind Blast to blow away the heat gas down the path to the right.
Pick up Muspelheim Gatherer, then turn around, turn right and energize the door. Following the cutscene, use hammer throws to destroy the four energy conduits on each side of the room. Use Mjolnir Bursts to hop over the Resonator Beams.
Infernir Champion!!! To start off, once you see the light under your feet, quickly move out of the way to avoid his fire blasts. Use several hammer throws, then perform a grapple hole when he’s flashing red and you see the gold light on his chest.
Once the “Champion’s” health is about half gone, follow the onscreen instructions and look around the room for a gold ring and perform a Mjolnir Leap to avoid getting torched.
After his heat wave blast, jump back down and engage in Hammer Throw Mode. Quickly destroy the three red gems above the Smelter to prevent the “Champion” from regenerating his health.
Repeat the process of using hammer throws and grapple maneuvers to kill the “Champion,” but make sure you eliminate the three red gems, or else the process of killing him will take a lot longer.
After you defeat him, use the Runestone to the right of the door, then energize the door and head down the cool hallway.
Chapter 11: The Drill
Another new group of enemies? You’ll notice that the Flame Callers will stay to the outside while the Flame Givers converge on you. Kill the two Flame Givers first, but watch out for the fire blasts from the Flame Callers.
Once you’ve defeated all four, Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring up on the next area and take out the Flame…Giver (Caller?). Next, take out the Flying Scorchers, then perform a Mjolnir Thrust to the grapple point on the small piece of land to the left.
Pull yourself, turn around and use a hammer throw to Ore Carrier. Make your way across and pick up the Muspelheim Gatherer. Perform a Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring next to the orange shield.
Use Thunder Trench to take out the two generators, then Mjolnir Leap down to the gold ring on the area down below. If you haven’t tested it out yet, use Cyclone to kill most of the enemies here at once. Do you best to keep moving here to avoid the meteor storm.
Once you’ve destroyed all enemies, Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring right above you and energize the Runestone. Turn around and Mjolnir Leap to the ring on the back side of the shield and Thunder Trench the final generator.
Right off the bat, watch out for the Drill Guard’s flame spear. Again, Cyclone works great to take out the Scorchers, as well as inflict some damage on the Guard. After you’ve killed all of them, walk up to the drill and hold B to push it over the edge. Mjolnir Leap up to the next gold ring to take you to the next area.
Walk to the edge of the lava and while in Hammer Throw Mode, destroy the drill off in the distance.Turn to the left and head around the path.
Hop across the three platforms on the lava, then perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring to the left. Pick up the Muspelheim Gatherer (which will give you maximum health), then perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring to the left.
Destroy the shield generator and kill all of the enemies in this area. Once you’ve killed them all, deflect a fireball blast back at the drill to destroy it. Drop of the ledge in front of you and head left.
Mjolnir Thrust over the gap, then head to the backside of the huge drill and hold B to push it over the edge. Look up and Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring.
Turn right and head through the doorway. Once you reach the doorway, energize the Runestone on the right. Do this with the two other Runestones, then energize the main door and enter through it. Save your game, then head rough the next door.
The Infernir Champion again? Immediately jump off the ledge to be avoid being hit by fire. Play him exactly the same as last time: hammer throws, wait for him to be stunned, then grapple maneuvers. The only thing to watch out for is when you see fire begin to swirl about him, make sure you Mjolnir Leap up to a gold ring to avoid gettin scorched.
After you defeat the Champion, turn around and use the Runestone. Head down the path and kill the attacking enemies. Following the cutscene, Mjolnir Leap down to the gold ring.
Destroy the plethora of flame enemies here by using a Thunder move. Once you’ve killed them…yep, you guessed it—you’ll have to kill the Champion again. And once again, do it the exact same way.
Once you’ve defeated him, walk toward the Runic Diagram in the wall, then turn left down the path. Open the door at the end of the path, then open the door at the end of the next pathway.
Chapter 12: Surtur
With a name like Surtur, you know you are in for a real boss fight. Like every other boss in this area, watch out for the flames that will come shooting out of the ground. Once he digs his sword into the ground, run up it and perform a grapple maneuver. (Who names their sword “Twilight”?)
You’ll have to be patient with this boss because the only way to destroy his armor is to climb up his sword to get to it. Stay close to him, but not too close, less you be sliced by “Twilight.”
Once you breach Surtur’s armor, he’ll send in a band of minions. Use Cyclone or some other huge attack to take care of the majority of them at once. After you finish them all off, it’s back to Surtur.
Without his armor, treat him like every other boss: hammer throws. Although, now you’ll have to counter his sword attack by tapping X to engage in a grapple maneuver. Continue to watch out for his rings of fire that spread out after he stabs the ground and avoid getting hit by the waves of fire he sets off after he teleports.
Once you’ve killed Surtur, shatter his precious Twilight with a few swings of the hammer. Look around the area and perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring down the tunnel.
ACHIEVEMENT: After you’ve opened the door at the end of the pathway, move down the pathway to the right. Once you reach the area where meteors are raining down left and right, look toward the huge bright light to the right and perform a Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring above it to escape disaster and earn the “Through the Fire” Achievement.
Chapter 13: Frozen Rainbow
Back to the Jotun again! Kill all enemies in this area to start out. Following the cutscene, look behind you and grab the Asgard Besieged Gatherer, then Mjolnir Leap up to the gold ring.
Save your game, then use the grapple point to get up onto the ledge. Once you’ve defeated the small group of Jotun in the next area and after Thor breaks through the shield, head into the observatory.
Chapter 14: Defense of Asgard
Quickly run up the steps behind you and save your game, then turn back around, head down the steps and Mjolnir Leap to the gold ring on the far right.
In defense of Asgard, simply chuck hammers at all attacking enemies. Once the area is secure, Mjolnir Leap back to the palace. Mjolnir Leap to the next gold ring to the left once you reach the palace steps.
For this next area, defeat the attacking Jotun, then run around and energize the three Jotun diagrams on the floor. Once you’ve done that, sound the Gjallarhorn in the center of the area and return to the palace.
For whatever reason, you’ll have to go back to the Gjallarhorn as soon as you reach the palace again. Once back, defend the Gjallarhorn by defeating the Jotun first, then when your Fury Meter is full, unleash it to not only destroy the Jotun, but the Jade Turrets as well.
Once you see the Asgard morale meter is full and the area is secure, head back to the palace. After you land on the palace steps, Mjolnir Leap to the next gold ring to the left.
Using Hammer Throw Mode, destroy the Assault Drills as they launch. Unfortunately, you’ll have to fight off Scorchers as you do so. Use Cyclone or a big Thunder attack to take out the Scorchers in one fell swoop. Do your best to destroy as many drills as possible.
Following the brief cutscene, all you have to do for this random part is tap B repeatedly to have Thor pick up a large rock and throw it at the final three drills. Pick up the Asgard Besieged Gatherer and head back to the palace.
As expected, as soon as you land you’ll have to return to the Southwest Ramparts. Once you arrive, you’ll have to defeat a Frost Goliath. The quickest way (live every other boss) is to use hammer throws, then grapple maneuvers when he is stunned.
The only catch is that you’ll have to defeat him as quick as possible in order to prevent Asgard’s morale dropping all of the way. It will be close, so don’t waste any time once you land. After you defeat him, head back to the palace.
Following your conversation with Loki, Mjolnir Leap to the next gold ring where you will have to defuse a bomb. In order to do this, don’t allow enemies to throw their flames towards the bomb.
Use Lightning Storm to kill off the majority of the surrounding enemies and make sure to take out the flying Scorchers as well. Once the drill arrives, run around to the four supports on the bomb and use your hammer to break them.
Once the supports have been destroyed, tap B to have Thor pick it up and throw it at the drill. Gather the Runes and pick up the Asgard Besieged Gatherer before heading back to the palace.
Chapter 15: Mangog
Final boss! You would think that this is your final test that he would be more difficult than previous bosses, but no. Simply watch out for the fiery swipes of his claws and perform hammer throws at his chest. Once you is dazed, run behind him and perform a grapple maneuver.
If you thought that was too easy, that’s because it was. Mangog will regain his health and you’ll have to fight him again. After he jumps to the platform in the distance, go back and forth using Mjolnir Thrusts to evade his heat-seeking fireballs.
Once he jumps back down, defeat him like before. Naturally, he will regain all of his health again. This time he will fire those same fireballs at close range. Do you best to time deflections using your hammer.
This will be Mangog’s last stand. Once you get his health down do about a quarter of the way, use Hammer Throw Mode to chuck a few hammers at his head. Continue to wear him down with hammer throws, but don’t get too close because he will start whipping his tail around in a frenzy.
ACHIEVEMENT: When his health has just a drop left, get behind him and perform one final grapple maneuver to defeat Mangog and complete the game. You will earn the “Homecoming King” and “Savior of Asgard” Achievements.
