Scramble With Friends Walkthrough [Guide]

Zynga has come up with yet another interesting social game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. In Scramble With Friends, players aim to outdo the number of words that an online opponent can come up from a 4×4 letter board within 2 minutes. This is a basic word game, but knowing some basic strategies will help you dominate in the game.

Game Basics – Selecting an Opponent
Clicking on the “Start a New Game” button would give you an option to choose if you want to play with Facebook friends, a random opponent, a specific user that you can search, or a friend from your contact list who also happens to have the game installed. Choosing the Facebook option would bring you to a page with a list of people who have played the game and may be willing to play against you. It will also give you an option to share the game and posting it on your wall, or to invite specific Facebook friends to play the game.

Game Basics – Power Ups
Tapping on the “Play” button will cost 1 Token and will start a round. There is an opportunity for you to choose two of three available power ups that you can use to get further in the game of Scramble With Friends. The first one will be free, but a second power up will cost you one Token.

1. Freeze gives you an additional 20 seconds of gametime without counting against the official time. This will give you an opportunity to look for more words and to accumulate a higher score. In case you forget to use this boost, it will automatically be added towards the end of the game.

2. Inspiration will provide an unused word on the board that you can use to get more score. You will still need to select the letters, but flames will highlight the letters and lines will also connect them together.

3. Scramble will give you the option to look at the board from a different perspective. This usually gives you a fresh look and could potentially show you more words.

Game Basics – Playing the game
Pressing Done would officially start the round, and you will be taken to the 4×4 board. You are now faced with the exciting task of finding letter combinations that will make up a complete word. As long as a letter is adjacent to the next one it will be considered as a valid combo. Simply tap on the first letter, then drag over the succeeding letters until the desired word is formed. Lifting your finger from the screen will signal the game that you have completed your word. A special chime will indicate that you have provided a valid English word, and the points earned will be shown somewhere at the top of the screen. Special exclamations are also given for the longer words. If the word provided is invalid, you will hear a buzz, and you will not be given any points.

Once the round is completed, you will be directed to the Scramble With Friends results screen and will be shown how you fared against your opponent. The words that both of you made will also be shown, as well as the points garnered. There are two additional rounds after the first, basically with the same concept but with scoring modifications such as double letters or triple words. The player with the highest combined score wins the game.

Conclusion
Scramble With Friends is a fun social game that you can play while waiting for your ride, while stuck in traffic, or simply to keep yourself occupied. It is a good way of showing off your vocabulary skills to your peers, and it provides a good challenge.
