Akeneiro: Demon Hunters is the new browser based game from Spicy Horse, playing to the tune of RPGs and designed for massive online gaming, although no co-op mode is available as of this time. Players get to play the role of a Red Hunter, tasked with destroying mythical monsters and creatures from Japanese folklore, maintaining peace and order within feudal Japan.
Gameplay
Akeneiro: Demon Hunters is an RPG where players must complete different missions in order to advance. They must also level up and upgrade their stats as well as equip higher level gear and weaponry in order to stand a chance against higher level monsters and bosses. Along the way, they can also unlock and utilize special skills that they can use to deal heavy damage against a large number of enemies.
Mission
Each mission is located in a different area. A mission carries with it an initial threat level, although this would be minimized once the level has been cleared. Players can repeat a cleared level, albeit with easier monsters and lower rewards. However, it might be good to go to cleared areas especially when grinding for shards and for leveling up.
Leveling Up
Battling monsters will provide players with experience points, or XP. Once enough XPs have been earned, players can level up. Once players level up, they can choose to boost one of their three abilities. This will make them more formidable in battle and, if done correctly, would further improve their skills depending on the player’s style of play.
Leveling up will also unlock certain items and equipment. This means that players would be able to acquire and utilize items that they previously had once they have reached a specific level.
Battle
In battle, players will be facing different types of monsters. Movement around the area is performed by clicking and holding the mouse, while attacking is as simple as clicking on the enemy. Players can “lock” their positions by holding the SHIFT button so that they would not move if their purpose is to click on an enemy so that it could be attacked.
Players can also use up to three abilities at a time, although this requires energy, which is slowly being replenished over time. Abilities also have recharge times, so players should be mindful of their timing of when to use these abilities. HP, or health points, are also replenished over time, so players can walk away from battle in order to regain lost health.
Karma Shards
Karma shards can be purchased using real life currency and can also be collected as rewards. These come in limited quantities, however, and are thus very precious. Karma shards can revive a player if he falls in battle, which means that he can start where he left off rather than being forced to return to camp and restart a failed mission. However, the number of karma shards required to revive your character increases each time you use them, so be mindful of that fact as well.
Karma shards are also used to unlock other content such as new areas and premium gear, so it is recommended to use this precious resource wisely.
Items
Items can be given as rewards, or can be dropped by fallen enemies as well as found in crates. Each item, whether it be weapons or armor, has certain boosts as well as strengths and weaknesses, so make sure to equip them based on how much they would benefit you, as well as on your style of play.
Brawlers would prefer to benefit from slower weapons that deal heavy damage and armor that have high defense, while those who like to hit and run may be better off with light armor and weapons that allow fast attacks. Redundant items or gear that you do not use can be sold in the village so that you can purchase more useful ones.
