Mittens is a physics-based puzzle game where players will get to control the very interactive environment in order to get Mittens to where he has to be. There are various missions that will require Mittens to go to great lengths to collect milk bottles, balloons, and the like, and only you can help him by cutting ropes, opening water valves, opening windows, and many more. The game features tons of levels and stages, as well as a ton of challenges and fun.
Gameplay
Those who have played games like Where’s My Water or Cut The Rope will be familiar with the concept behind Mittens. While the player cannot directly control the main character, they can perform actions on the background that will cause Mittens to fall, bounce, and pretty much move around the screen in order to collect certain items that will be required to clear the level. Being able to complete the challenge is essential to opening up the next set of levels.
Stages and Levels
The game comprises of different sets of levels, and completing each is essential in unlocking the next levels and sets within the game. In addition, gems can be collected on each stage which could then be used to unlock bonus levels on the set. Of course, players can repeat challenges that they have already cleared if they have missed out on collecting gems, if they want to beat their best score, or simply if they want to just try an alternative solution to the puzzle.
The Environment
As previously mentioned, you cannot directly make Mittens move across the stage and towards the milk bottle, balloon, or any other main objective that you need to reach. Players will have to interact with the environment through swiping at or tapping certain objects to activate them. Examples of items that the player will be interacting with are below.
The first items that players will be introduced to are canopies and ropes. Cutting the rope on a canopy where Mittens is standing on will cause him to drop, but do not worry as the cat will not die no matter how high he drops. Sometimes, Mittens will fall onto a cable, which will cause Mittens to bounce. Players must be able to gauge drops and bounce trajectories to get Mittens to where he needs to go.
Further levels will also introduce players to the Angry Frying Pan Man. Making contact with him will force players to restart the level, so make sure to dispatch of him first or, at the very least, avoid him at all costs. Players can do the former by cutting the rope on the canopy above him.
Players will also be introduced to wood which, like ropes, can be cut. However, wood can be cut anywhere, and this will affect how Mittens would drop. In addition, Mittens can also hang onto birds which will provide him with limited flight. Players can then choose as to when and where they would like to be dropped by tapping on the screen.
Antennas can also be used to catapult mittens to their desired location. The angle and strength of the shot can be changed ala Angry Birds, so players would be able measure their desired path quite accurately. Windows and water valves can also be used to shoot Mittens up in the air, which is extremely essential especially for those stages that encompass multiple floors.
There are many other objects that players can interact with in further levels, and each has their varying effects that will push Mittens closer towards his intended objective. New enemies will also be introduced, so caution must be present at all times. It is thus the player’s responsibility to figure out how all of these objects work together in order to be able to clear the stage. Do not worry if you fail the first couple of times, especially if it is your first time in a level. Simply map out how each object works and plan out Mittens’ trajectory path before you start cutting and activating objects. Of course, don’t forget to collect those gems in order to unlock those bonus stages, and replay previous levels in order to make your gem collections complete.
