It’s Turtle Time once again with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run. Take on the roles of your favorite heroes in a half shell as they embark on an endless running adventure, jumping over roofs and taking on Kraang’s lackey’s and other obstacles. Taking on these challenges can be pretty difficult, but keeping a level head and having quick reflexes will have you yelling “Cowabunga!” in no time.
Gameplay
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run is an endless runner where players must avoid obstacles like ledges and bombs, all the while maintaining energy, defeating enemies, and collecting coins that they can use to upgrade their abilities as well purchase powerups.
Controls
The game employs simple tapping controls. Tapping at the screen will make the character jump, while tapping and holding will make your character jump for higher and longer. There are also enemies that players can tap at in order to attack them, although some enemies would require multiple taps to defeat. In addition, double tapping will allow the player to double jump, which is great for extended leaps as well as reaching higher areas to collect orbs. Lastly, players will be able to wall run or jump over ledges whenever it is applicable. These, however, would also require tapping and holding in certain cases.
Characters
Players can choose between Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello for their runs. However, players may only choose to unlock one initially, with the other turtles requiring purchase in order to be playable. In addition, another character named Dogpound will also be available for play, although this can take quite some time to acquire due to its high price.
Coins
Gold coins are the main currency within the game. Coins can be earned by defeating enemies, completing tasks, and can also be given as rewards. Coins must be used when purchasing items and unlocking characters in the store. Having a healthy amount of coins is important so that you can upgrade your characters so that you can run for longer.
Energy
There is a constantly depleting bar on top of the screen as you run. This is the energy bar, and this can be refilled by collecting green orbs while running. Hitting obstacles like bombs will further deplete your bar, and leaving it to empty will let the Kraang ship capture you. Thus, it is important to acquire green orbs whenever they appear so that you will be able to run longer.
In addition, filling up your energy bar will let you enter Turtle Time, a mini game where you must tap at circles. As the screen simulates combat, you will be able to earn huge coins that you can use at the store.
Store
The store is where players can purchase upgrades and gadgets for their turtles. Upgrades are specific for each turtle, and you can improve their statistics such as attacks, jumping ability, and more energy. Boosts, once purchased, will be permanent.
Powerup gadgets may also be purchased at the store. Unlike boosts, gadgets can only be used once, and you will have to purchase them again should you want them in your next run. Gadgets provide players with benefits such as being able to jump ahead of a run, the ability to collect orbs automatically, and many more.
Achievements
Players can also gain access to an achievements list, where they are missions that players may be able to complete. Being able to complete tasks will earn players huge rewards, which is extremely important when trying to earn coins.
Pizza Wheel
After each run, players can spin the Pizza Wheel where rewards will be randomly provided. Extra spins can be purchased using coins, but it would be much better to save your coins for upgrades and gadgets.
