Starship Battles Walkthrough [Guide]

Delve into intense space battles with Starship Battles, the exciting new game from Empty Flask Games. This arcade game requires players to survive for as long as possible using their shuttle, as wave after wave of enemy ships rushes towards you. There are different weapons and ships to use, and it requires precision, timing, as well as a vast amount of concentration to come out on top and get that all important high score.

Gameplay
The game begins with the player located on the left side of the screen. On the right side, enemies would be appearing and would rush towards you. Players must then shoot at enemies before they hit you and deal you damage. Ships have a sturdy shield, but once energy has been depleted, your hull will start to take damage. The game will end once your ship has been destroyed.

Most weapons work via a Missile Command-esque mechanic, whereas it is not the actual projectile that destroys enemies, but rather its blast radius. Players must ensure that enemies are within the blast radius, timing the distance between attacks and the speed of the ships cruising towards you in order to assure destruction.

The screen can also be swiped in order to see across the vast reaches of space, and this is important in order to be able to locate all possible enemies, whether it be small ships or cruisers that can deploy more enemies at you.

The game also has three different difficulty modes, so players can choose as to how challenging they would like the game to be.

Trinium
Trinium is the currency within the game, and this can be collected as they appear during the game. Some enemy ships will also drop trinium once they have been destroyed. Trinium can also be purchased using real life currency. This currency is required in order to purchase sturdier and more powerful ships that can deal and withstand more damage.

Energy
Ships share energy for both the shield as well as offensive weapons. Firing weapons will consume some energy, with less powerful weapons consuming less energy and stronger ones consuming more. Having an enemy ship crash onto your ship will also deplete your energy reserves. However, energy constantly regenerates, so you can have your shield back up quickly if you stick to basic weapons and not get crashed on by enemies.

Ships
There are many different ships that can be used during play, and aside from the initial frigate, other ships must be purchased using trinium. Each ship has been specialized to be used depending on the player’s style, although most share the basic features such as a shield and other basic weaponry.

All ships will also take damage once their ship’s shields go down, so it is important to conserve energy for both attacking and defending.

Nukes
Nukes are an invaluable asset, especially when facing a large number of enemies. players are provided with one nuke for every 30,000 points scored, and it also has a cooldown period between uses. Nukes will destroy all enemies with a short radius of your ship, which is a great way to deal with situations when you are getting swarmed.

Tips and Tricks
Being able to pay attention to all enemies is integral in order to prolong your survival within the game. Locate any stragglers that might have escaped your attention, as you might notice them when it is too late and they are too close for you to dispatch. Thus, constantly swiping across the screen in search of enemies is important, and it also serves the additional purpose of allowing you to see trinium minerals that you might be able to harvest.

Also, look for visual or audio cues, as these will signal as to when enemies are appearing and where they will be. Prioritize the destruction of big cruisers as they will most likely frustrate you due to their ability to deploy smaller ships that can quickly overwhelm you should you be careless. They also have the ability to warp so you should destroy them as early as you can.

Practice timing your shots, compensating for the distance between your actual shot against your location as well as the trajectory of enemies. It would be wise to launch a straight line of suppressing fire that will stop small blitzes of ships. Make sure to use your basic weapons as firing torpedoes will surely consume a lot of energy. With this, also make sure that you do not waste your ammo, especially the stronger ones, on shots that have a low chance of hitting something, as this will greatly deplete your energy that can be put to better use for your shields.

Lastly, conserve your nukes whenever possible, and use them only when you are getting swarmed. Let one or two ships crash onto you especially if your shields are still strong and up, and release the heavy armaments during the later stages where it is becoming more difficult to control the fleets rushing towards you.
