R.B.I. Baseball 14 (iOS) Walkthrough [Guide]

Those who were born about two decades ago would probably remember RBI Baseball for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Fans of that game would also probably enjoy the latest incarnation of the series, this time for mobile devices. R.B.I. Baseball 14 features the same addictive gameplay and boasts updated rosters and amped up visuals that will make you feel as if you have front row seats to the game. With that, here’s our guide on how to play the game, which will help you out better than any coach in the dugout can.

Gameplay

R.B.I. Baseball 14 is a baseball simulation game where in players can take on different teams from the MLB, and they would be required to go through innings where in teams would alternate between pitching and hitting. Gameplay revolves around having proper control of your players as well as outsmarting them, especially when stealing bases. R.B.I. Baseball offers three game modes with different match mechanics, although the gameplay within each match remains the same.

Teams

R.B.I. Baseball 14 features different players and teams from the Major League Baseball association. The game also includes special teams like All Star teams as well as unlockable jerseys that will become available once certain criteria have been met further along the line. The game currently does not feature any other paid content aside from the game itself, so players need not worry that they are missing out on anything. Unfortunately, the game does not offer players the chance to alter their rosters, so they are stuck with the same team all throughout especially if they are playing under Full Season mode.

Controls

The game provides a simple control mechanism for all phases of the game. For hitting, players can align their players with the pitch, with the option to both swing and bunt. During the pitch and once the ball is loose, players can also command other players to run to the bases will the opposing team is trying to catch the ball.

During pitches, players can alter the angle, speed, and curve of the ball so that players will have a difficult time hitting them. They should also look out for fielders trying to steal bases while you are preparing your throw. Once the ball is loose, players must catch it in and throw it back to base before the opposing team members are able to complete their run.

Challenges

Aside from achievements, players can unlock special jerseys for each time should they meet certain criteria while playing the game. These include striking out opponents consecutively, or making a minimum number of runs in an inning, among others. Look towards completing these objectives if you want to get all available content and to get the most out of the game.

Tips and Tricks

Make the most out of the opportunity to throw balls outside the line. You’re allowed four before the batter would walk, and that’s a pretty good deal considering that you can strike them out easily with this strategy. Watch out for very slow pitches, though, as the time you use up can be used by the opposing team as well, especially when stealing bases. Add curve balls into your repertoire of pitches, as these are the most difficult to hit. There’s really no safe way to go about this, though, as it’s really just a matter of luck if you would be able to strike out a hitter with ease or if you’ll be eating a home run from a lucky swing.

At bat, it would be a good idea to stand deeper than on the outside. This will allow you to see balls that would be just outside your area, resulting in a foul call and may give you the opportunity to walk. Don’t go for bunts especially if your bases are loaded, as an early catch may cause an out for each of your players. It would also not be a good idea to steal bases unless you are willing to gamble having at least one playing running towards home in exchange for getting your other players tagged by the fielders.

Try to get the hang of the controls first, and try not to do anything fancy. Once you’ve gotten the hang of things, try different combinations and positions and see which ones best suit your style of play. Try exhibition games before going for the full season as beginners may find themselves losing and might lead to frustration and them quitting the game early on. Another sound advice is to turn auto fielding on. This option is recommended for players just starting with the game as all they have to worry about is throwing the ball at the target base.

Don’t think too much about which teams you would like to play as, as well. Even though some stats between players vary, it is how you control them that counts, despite whatever the numbers may say. Just try and get your timing and controls right, and you would easily be able to dominate the competition.
