1. Introduction and Controls
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
In Dance Central: Spotlight, the basic gist of the game is that you dance to various music. The goal of the game is to match your movements with the movements of the dancers on screen. A spotlight on the ground helps you keep track of how well you are performing the moves.
You can control the entire game using a combination of voice and gestures, but it I recommend using a controller to navigate through the menus as it is simply easier that way.
That being said, there isn’t a traditional list of controls to post like I would for most games due to the nature of Dance Central. You will come across a variety of different motion control actions that will be different depending on the circumstances in the game.

2. Playing the Game
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Dance Central: Spotlight features a few different game modes, all of which I will explain in detail here. Since the game requires on your ability to match the dance movements of the dancing avatar on screen, there is no real strategy to offer here; rather, I will simply walk you through the different game modes and offer an explanation on how to play each mode.
In the center of the screen when you boot up the game, you will see a selection entitled “Just for You”. This is a randomly selected song out of your available songs that you can pick and then play immediately. Think of it as a “quick play” option. On your left you will see the Fitness option, and on the right you will see the Songs option.

SONGS
=====
By purchasing the base game for $9.99 (hey, that’s also the price of the WWE Network, eh?), you will have 10 different songs available to play. This is a list of the 10 different songs you will have access to upon purchasing Dance Central: Spotlight.
“#Thatpower” by will.i.am. ft. Justin Bieber
“Counting Stars” by One Republic
“Diamonds” by Rihanna
“Happy” by Pharrell Williams
“I Wish” by Cher Lloyd
“Royals” by Lorde
“Show Me” by Kid Ink ft. Chris Brown
“Talk Dirty” by Jason Derulo ft. 2 Chainz
“Titanium” by David Guetta ft. Sia
“Wake Me Up” by Avicii
Besides these songs, you can also purchase other songs, either individually or in bundles. Songs cost $1.99 apiece, whereas the bundles of songs, usually dance mixes of popular songs from popular pop artists, come in a variety of different price points.
The Spotlight section of “Songs” will show you the songs that the developers have decided to highlight, whereas the My Songs will display the songs that you currently own, and the Store is where you will go to see the entire catalog of songs that are available for purchase and use in the game.

FITNESS
=======
A popular aspect of dancing is how it can also serve a role in a fitness setting. Yes, dancing is obviously good for you as it gets your blood pumping and is fantastic exercise, and Dance Central: Spotlight embraces this aspect of dancing by including a game mode completely dedicated to it.
In Fitness, you have three different settings to deal with before you can jump in and start working out. The first setting is the Duration. This determines how long you will dance. If you choose a really high amount of time to dance, obviously the game will just keep going through the various songs that you have under “My Songs”.
These are the time options:
10 minutes
15 minutes
20 minutes
25 minutes
30 minutes
45 minutes
60 minutes
90 minutes
Next, you have to choose the types of Routines that you want to do. You can mix and match different routines. For example, if you choose to do a 90 minute fitness workout, you can then choose on top of that to do a mixture of strength based and cardio based routines.
Appropriate songs for the type of dancing you want to do will be chosen, and the dance moves may be different based on what kinds of routines that you choose.
Finally, the last setting to adjust is that of the Player. You and one friend (one other person can step in front of the Kinect sensor and be in the game) can adjust your height and weight and the game can use that information when doing the Fitness portion of the game.
