The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was supposed to be a game that could change the visual fidelity of consoles and PC titles, but it didn’t.
Due to the limited power on the next gen Xbox One and PS4 consoles, developers, CD Projekt RED, drastically reduced the quality.
A graphical comparison video was released by Gamespot and Digital Foundry. When you go through the video in-depth, you will hardly find any difference between the three versions. While the PC version looks a bit better with sharper textures and higher resolution, it doesn’t sport things that may make gamers go head over heels. The Xbox One and PS4 hardware determine the quality of games these days. Graphical downgrades are becoming more common and 30 FPS is something that developers are struggling to achieve on the consoles.
Upcoming Patch Confirmed
While the PS4 version of the game ran at full HD 1080p resolution, the Xbox One version of the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was at 900p. The higher resolution obviously leads to a lot of graphics issues. The Playstation 4 console struggles a lot in specific areas where the frame rate drops below 20 FPS making it simply unplayable. For the Microsoft machine, dynamic scaling was used so that the game would automatically switch to 1080p whenever possible.
It led to frame rate issues. which is why CD Projekt RED has decided to skip it and lock the game at 30 FPS permanently. In PC, you always have the freedom to choose your frame rates based on the GPU you own and even the lowest ones cross 30 frames per second in most modern day titles.
PS4 Patch Incoming
It is all about patches these days! The Witcher 3 will also receive a patch on the PS4 console which will make the game look better and also fix some graphical issues. In reality, it is going to downgrade some of the graphics so as to solve frame rate issues. The developers confirmed this in their official page. A PC patch is incoming which will boost graphics and should make the game play smoother on GPUs of different generations.
