Introducing microtransactions in a console quality game is a bad move, but developers, 343 Industries, who are working on the game Halo 5 Guardians, the most awaited Xbox One exclusive says it’s not like what people are used to in mobile games.
When it comes to the iOS and Android games, such games will usually be free to download. But, you will be able to play them only for specific hours and when you need good costumes, maps or armies, you may have to keep paying almost every day to keep winning. A similar situation will not occur with Halo, confirmed the developers. The multiplayer mode in the game will have micro transactions where players could pay real money for which they will be given REQ packs. These packs will have special items that could unlocked instantly by paying.
Play to Win
“We are definitely not aiming to make things complicated here with a game like Halo 5 Guardians. We know there are millions out there who are fans of the exclusive and the micro transactions are never going to make the game one sided because majority of them are cosmetic changes like costumes and weapon skins. There could be occasional gear and even some vehicles but players will be able to win them all by levelling up too”, said the developer.
Another complicated statement has been made as well. The developer says that after you pay to buy those REQ packs, you won’t be able to use them in some modes. Arena modes will never allow them while War zone may have restrictions on using them. You have to keep playing to earn and fill your energy bar to use them. Does it make any sense to pay and keep playing, to unlock those boxes? Maybe, 343 Industries could answer this before the game launches.
Balancing the game
The developers claim that Halo 5 Guardians multiplayer modes will always be balanced. It is made possible by REQ levels which a player has to reach by killing opponents and there is the energy bar system that they have to fill up in order to use those REQ packs. If you have two energy points and have already purchased a warthog, you can use it. Energy will drain as you use your special packs and soon you have to fill it again. Sounds a lot like mobile games and we hope it is not, because Halo is a cult classic among Xbox lovers.
