This is the reason that Sony has to reject various initial designs for Sonic The Hedgehog. Some designers thought that a dog should be the new mascot while some thought armadillo to be the best next mascot but finally Sonic The Hedgehog was chosen to be a new mascot.
More concentration was given on the appearance of Sonic The Hedgehog because gaming is all about entertainment which could give relaxation to the gamers. So all the things involved in the gaming must be ample and Sonic Hedgehog was perfect for giving maximum eye candy. This is how Sonic The Hedgehog developed and attracted people towards it.
