In recent days, swtor forums, reddit and other social media are heated due to the controversial nerf on companions after patch 4.0.2. Now the latest news has come out as that Bioware will take some actions to buff companions a bit to make a balance next Monday. Check out of the whole process of companion "storm" till now.

1. Bioware nerfed companions to keep challengeable contents

It all started when players get powered healing companions since swtor 4.0. To paraphrase Eric - there are a lot of situations in regular combat where it is practically impossible for you to be killed if you have a healing Companion. Basically, they wanted to make sure that all players can be accessible to the story content in new expansion. However, they finally found that they have gone a bit too far in that direction while looking at the overpowered companions. Thus, the nerf to companions began - healing and damage output of companions were reduced by about 75% with patch 4.0.2, which is root that caused heated discussion before and now.

2. Players told the game is broken with weak companions

Game over, rip companion, ruined, that's what the community always told this time. With every balance change Bioware put us, there are the doomsayers and the loyal supporters, but this time it seems that most of feedbacks are negative statements. There's a lot of talk about how companion nerf has doomed us all to having stressful battles now with whatever our preference of companion is. Many opinions showing that the healing companion was initially a lot more painful than on other classes, especially when they are recruited for the [Heroic 2] Missions, the solo Star Fortress, or the high achievement.

3. Bioware showed out design goals and collected feedback

As almost all disapproval aroused, Bioware appeared to give an explanation and showed out their design goals for all companion-related contents. according to the notes, leveling content and Kotfe chapters are set as low level challenge, while [Heroic 2] Missions and Star Fortress are medium-level challenge, the Heroic Star Fortress is at High challenge level, and "The One and Only" Achievement should be hard and still possible. Based on these goals, players have given some new feedback, showing that the nerf was going so far that made gameplay painful.

4. Eric told new plans will be taken to buff swtor companion

The latest news is that the dev team will take some actions to buff companions and make a balance. We will get detailed changes along with the state of Heroic Missions and Star Fortress next Monday. Until now, some players told that they wouldn't run high on expectations, while others believed the handling from Bioware was good so far as they were listening to players' feedback and making reaction efficiently.

It doesn't look as if swtor companion change issue will end soon as concerns still remain as if the actual changes will be reasonable. Though it won't please everyone, let's hope that there is new way to make balance on companions.
