Get to Know your R4

Think of the R4 and the R4i as storage devices issued and made popular for use in Nintendo. Also known as flashcards, these are used to store the licensed developer’s works in programs, on-development games and other downloaded games. This gadget will allow you to use the micro SD cards in the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DSi console so that you easily store and manage the games, applications, music and movies. There are even users and technology lovers that use the R4 for storing their downloaded e-books. There are a number of storage devices that were introduced alongside the R4 and its newest incarnation, the R4i but this series was considered as the most popular flash cards available for techies. Perhaps one of the reasons for its popularity is that there are no supplementary components needed. And users like you will just need to have the regular peripheral.

What R4 stands for

For the makers and its developers, it stands for Revolution for the Nintendo DS. And revolutionize the market, it did. There was a time when the DS will only allow the players and the users to play games on it. But with the introduction of this flashcards, users can find other uses for the DS. Right now, it is possible for users to record and play music on the device plus you can able to store and watch movies as well. This flash card is also best in using as the back-up storage device for games so you don’t have to worry about games being lost or erased.

This flash card is also known for its compact size. But don’t let its size fool you in what it can do. In terms of capacity, this flash card carries and stores more than what it contemporaries can. On average, the flash card’s memory runs from 2GB to 32 GB. With that kind of storage capacity some may probably think that the price can be out of reach. This is not the case with this flash card.

How this flash card is used

In order for the flash card to be used, it is importance that software should be installed and run on the device. Firmware is available online and this is run before the flash card can be used. When this is purchased in the market, this will come with the SD or Secure Digital card which will allow you to store files on it. Once these things are available then you can insert the SD card on the flash card and insert the cartridge into the Nintendo DS. Another similar flash card used by gamers is the R4i. This works similarly with the R4 and has the same size with the Nintendo DSi but the only difference is that there exists an additional port where the MicroSD can be fitted. This allows for the data to be run on the Nintendo DS. Both these flash cards are gamers’ best friend but you may not need both. If you own the DSi, then surely the R4i is the one best for your needs. And if you are looking for the better technology, the R4i takes the cake since this is the newest issue between the two.

There is a new technology available for DS users that will allow them to store backup games. These are the flash cards called the R4 and the R4i which others call as Revolution for Nintendo DS. These flash cards will need the Micro SD in order to work.
