Dressing up dolls is a favorite pastime of little girls and boys all over the world. Princesses play a special part in most girls’ make-believe games, so having a princess doll, or dressing a favorite doll up as a princess, is a staple of most childhood games. While real princesses nowadays wear a variety of clothing, from modern casual to chic and trendy, the ballgown is the most common type of clothing associated with a princess in the imagination of a child. Instructions
- Put the dress on the doll, fluffing out the skirt so that it is nice and full. The princess dress should be silky, shiny or glittery, and have a big skirt, often with tiered layers. Pink, white and yellow are popular princess colors.
- Pull on her white gloves. These should be elbow-length gloves, as most princess outfits in formal settings include long white gloves, called opera gloves.
- Fit the shoes onto her feet. The shoes should be glassy, shiny or glittery, as even the feet of a princess need to shine.
- Tie the cape around the shoulders of the princess. Most princess capes are edged with a white and black fur called ermine, which is a symbol of royalty.
- Place the edge of the veil over the doll’s hair, then put the tiara on her head, securing the veil in place so that it hangs down the back of her hair.
- Attach any doll jewelry, such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
