Resident Evil, one of the first games that I recall scaring the hell out of me when I was younger. Less on that, this iconic Franchise has been around with a host of games for over 16 years. From the first game release of Resident Evil on March 26, 1996...to 2 new games Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil 6. Operation Raccoon city is the game in question.
Basically, The game's setting place roughly around the events of the first 3 games, From the end of resident evil to the ultimate end of resident evil 3. For fans, this game is really a dream answered. For years we play as some protagonist fighting the mess of whatever Umbrella screwed up and now have to find some way to get to the bottom of it. Now in Operation Raccoon City, we are placed in the shoes of the antagonists trying to stop the iconic RE 2 rookie cop, Leon S. Kennedy. and his companion in search for her brother, Claire Redfield.
If your anything of a fan of the genre, these 2 names were enough to grab your attention but I promise you it gets alot better. Along with Leon and Claire, others from the franchise make an appearance such as Ada Wong, Jill Valentine, Carlos Oliveria (The guy you meet in the beginning of RE3), Nicholai Ginovaef, and Mr. Death himself HUNK.
Of course the events of the 3 games happen in order, but through the eyes of the umbrella Operatives. You probably wondering "Well.. I don't know who I'm playing as... are these guys simply randoms?". Like you, I thought the same thing, but sources tell that all these operatives play a pivotal role. Apart from the umbrella team, you will also have to tangle with the United States special Ops team, whose objectives will deviate from the Umbrella Security Service (USS).
For the USS, you will be able to play the following characters: Vector, who is the ghost of the group(Fun-fact: Vector is HUNK's Apprentice, that's enough said),Beltway, who is known as the Demolition Expert; Bertha the medic (The I'm going to heal everyone girl); Spectre the Sniper; Four Eyes, the scientist with a vast knowledge of the BOWS, and then you have Lupo, the Team leader. For the United States Spec Ops, you have Willow the recon expert; Dee-Ay the team leader; Tweed the demolitions expert; Harley the medic; Shona the field scientist; and Party Girl the sniper. Why the sniper's codename is "Party Girl" is really beyond me.
Multiplayer is a whole other animal by itself. Originally, I thought it was just going to be a co-op game, which I was COMPLETELY content with, but Capcom stunned even myself with the game modes. You have your classic Team Deathmatch, Capture the flag type modes, but knowing them they had to do something different. You have Heroes Mode where you play as either the Protagonist or Antagonist from the first 3 games, where the objective is to kill all the other teams hero (or villains) first. Xbox 360 gets lucky receiving an exclusive mode called Nemesis Mode. Basically, you go around the zombie infested maps in search of the controller of Nemesis. My only guess is whoever holds him the longest wins the match (My guess, don't take my word up for that quite yet).
My opinion of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City:
I am personally very excited for this game to drop on March 20th (North America Release). This game incorporates most of the things I only wished for in the other games. Even if majority of this seems like a fan-service, still it's a game that's nabbing my 60 hard earned dollars. While this is only a preview of the game, I just hope that the game lives up to the hype. TOO often fans expect to much and end up disliking the game like it was a bad taste in their mouth.
