Mists of Pandaria saw a new race added to the game called the Pandarens who are the native race to the Pandaria continent. The Pandarens lived a peaceful life on the continent of Pandaria safely hidden away from a strange mist that surrounded the continent.
The Pandarens weren't always a free spirited race though as they were once enslaved and under the command of the Mogu, a fierce race of warlords. Having overcome their enemies though the Pandaren emperor sought for a peaceful, tranquil existence and sensed the troubled continents of Azeroth so cast a heavy shrouding mist to conceal the Pandaria continent.
Pandaria remained hidden for tens of thousands of years before the raging battle of the Alliance and Horde saw a naval war come crashing into the concealed shores of Pandaria where the mists had been finally unveiled.
Centuries earlier a small group of Pandarens united and vowed to leave Pandaria in search of new continents and set off to sea on the back of a giant turtle, many Pandarens existed peacefully on the turtles back until one day the turtle became unstable and their lives are in danger..
This is where the game will begin for any player that starts out as a Pandaren character, on the back of the turtle starting out by completing some basic training challenges. As you progress the turtle will become less and less stable and it will be your beckoning to find a solution to save the group of Pandarens.
Amid the chaos the Pandarens reach land and encounter another race which is the first time, this signals the end of the starting zone and where each player playing the Monk class will now choose which faction they're going to side for.
The Pandarens are also unique from other races in that they have racial abilities and can benefit from some additional buffs. The first of their racial abilities comes from their passion for the foods and receive the "Well Fed" stat buff from consuming different foods.
They also have the added benefit of having their stat points doubled temporarily and each Pandaren starts with a 15 point cooking skill as opposed to the routine 1 point cooking skill.
The Pandaren race are also peaceful and tranquil and therefore enjoy the racial ability "Inner Peace" which gives them double the amount of time for their rested experience. Their naturally bouncy also means the they will take half as much damage from a heavy fall.
One last unique racial ability they possess which is worth mentioning is their "Quaking Palm" ability which is a sharp strike that completely renders enemies useless for 4 seconds which can prove to be extremely handy for different gaming scenarios.
