Gears designer Cliff Bleszinski had once said that he had high hopes for the sales of Gears of War 3. He hopes to reach six million sales over the lifetime of the game. Well we are a week into launch and Cliff’s hopes are probably going to become a reality.
Today Microsoft announced that Gears of War 3 has sold over 3 million units since the launch on September 20, 2011. The figures for the first week are extremely impressive considering this game is an Xbox 360 Exclusive. Gears of War is one of the reasons why the Xbox 360 has been so succesful. Microsoft also added that the Gears franchise has made over 1 billion dollars in lifetime sales.
Gears of War 3 flying off the shelves is really no surprise to anyone. Epic games had reported in May that 1.29 million gamers in 145 different countries tested the beta in the month or so it ran between April and May of this year. Microsoft also reported that the preorders from Gears 3 topped one million faster than any Xbox 360 exclusive game, taking the top spots over Halo: Reach and Halo 3.
In November, Epic games will launch the first of four expansion packs for Gears of War 3. You will have an option to either by the packs separately for 45 dollars or 3,600 Microsoft points (this includes all four map packs), or you can go with The “Season Pass” to preorder all four of the map packs for the lower price of 30 dollars or 2,400 Microsoft Points. You will also get a liquid metal weapon set when you buy the preseason pass.
If you have never jumped into the Gears world before don't worry! There is a feature called " Previously on Gears of War" that will go through the events of the first two games. Gears of War 3 can be played either solo or Co-op with up to three of your friends. A great feature this game has is that you have the ability to play the story mode in Co-op with everyone on different difficulty settings. Epic games director of production said, “We don’t want people to feel … if they missed out of Gears 1 and 2 that they can’t get in. The game follows Marcus Fenix and the Cog once again in their effort to rid the world of the alien species known as the Locust and Lambet.
