As the Diablo 3 release date nears, Diablo fans everywhere are getting ready by pre-purchasing the game, playing Diablo 2 again, or, if they’re lucky, even playing Diablo 3 beta. Diablo 3 is undoubtedly something to look forward to. I mean, Diablo 2 was released by Blizzard in 2000, and people are still playing it. But how will Diablo 3 compare to Diablo 2?
Obviously Diablo 3 will have better graphics than Diablo 2. Diablo 3 will also have five character classes, four of which are new: Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor, and Wizard (the Barbarian is the fifth class, which was also available in Diablo 2). Unlike Diablo 2, Diablo 3 also gives you the option to play as either a male or a female of whichever class you choose. You’ll also have “followers,” who are reminiscent of Diablo 2’s hired rogues and mercenaries, except in Diablo 3 you will have more control over them. There are three different types of followers: Enchantress, Scoundrel, and Templar. Each one has their own unique skill tree, and as they level up, you decide which skills they learn and grow stronger in.
There are quite a few other changes coming in Diablo 3 that will make the game more fluid and potentially prevent some aggravation. You remember that time you traveled to the very bottom level of that cave but forgot to bring a Scroll of Town Portal? Don’t worry, we’ve all done it. It won’t happen anymore, though, because in Diablo 3 you don’t need scrolls to travel back to town. You also don’t need scrolls to identify items. Not only that, but in Diablo 3 you can respec your character stats anytime you want, opposed to waiting and saving skill points to make just the right build, like in Diablo 2.
Diablo 3 most definitely should be played online, if at all possible. One of the greatest parts of the Diablo games has been about finding and trading items, and the new Auction House makes this quick and easy. Speaking of items, in Diablo 3 there will be Legendary items, which are one step higher than unique items. Not only that, but there will also be a PvP arena, where players (or even teams of players) can fight against one another and see who’s the strongest.
Probably my favorite addition to Diablo 3 is the new difficulty level – Inferno. One step above Hell difficulty, Inferno is meant for players who have essentially maxed out their character. The monsters will be significantly stronger than the player, so Inferno will undoubtedly be very difficult… but it will also offer “epic rewards.”
Blizzard is changing quite a bit with Diablo 3, but I believe they’ll be great improvements. Make sure your system meets the Diablo 3 system requirements, pre-order Diablo 3, and get ready for May 15, because this game will be amazing. If people have played Diablo 2 for twelve years now, how long do you think they’ll play Diablo 3?
See you online on May 15! (:
