Swtor should start by fixing the Commando Set Bonus
It is good that Swtor combat team pays attention on investing players’ thoughts about the set bonuses, but for some player, the process of improving set bonuses should start by fixing the Commando Set Bonus. It has been about 8 months since players told that 4-piece set bonus of Commando has always been broken. However, players haven’t gotten a satisfactory solution so far, which irritates players and affects their loot in Operations (raid leader wants to give set pieces to people whose set bonuses actually work). Fortunately, someone on reddit indicated that this problem is currently fixed on the PTS and will be fixed on live next week, not sure so far, but it can be expected if they don’t revert all class balancing changes again.
Potential Idea I: Change the cooldown of long abilities for 4 piece
It seems that many players don’t like the 4 piece set bonuses that change cooldown or energy cost of critical moves and change your rotation. Instead, it was suggested that they changed the cooldown of long abilities, like the Slingers’ and Marauders’ set bonus, or give a longer buff duration for a long cooldown ability like the Bodyguard Mercs’ one. Potential Idea II: Give new tier of utilities with some choices
To avoid the minor effect on performance, someone suggested that it can provide another tier of utilities that are unlocked by set pieces, having maybe 2-3 choices per tier, allowing players to alter rotation to their preference. For example, the 2 set ones can be straightforward and dull, but on the correct abilities that they should be relatively equal, something like X ability increases your alacrity for so long, or this other one increases your crit by a certain amount for so long. The idea being that they would average out to the same DPS, but would allow you to be burstier or speed up your rotation etc.
And then you’d have the big 6 piece bonuses which would all drastically alter your rotation in some way, by reducing the cooldown of one ability when another is used, or causing your next attack to deal twice as much damage or something, but put on an ability that doesn’t usually proceed your biggest attack that you’d want it on, thus forcing you to alter your rotation.
It will be cool to change the cooldown of long abilities and provide new tier of utilities for players’ choice. However, would it come to fruition? It is hard to say.
