Starcraft 2 Brood Lord Tactics And Strategies
Here are some helpful Starcraft 2 Brood Lord tactics for competitive online play. This air unit is part of an insectivorous, swarm-minded race and is best known for spawning Broodlings. These are smaller temporary versions of the species best known for their ground melee attack. This unit requires a Greater Spire to be built.
The first major consideration when deploying this unit is the location. Since they cannot withstand much damage, they should be placed somewhere away from where they might be susceptible to head-on attacks. Their chances of surviving are the greatest when they can be shielded by surrounding obstructing terrain. This will help to obstruct the path of oncoming ground attacks.
Blood Lords operate at their best when they are used as a siege unit. When used at range, they can easily get in free hits. This, however can only work with the proper ability of the player to handle the other units that should support the Brood Lords.
The Broodlings spawned by this unit have an incredibly short duration. Even if they've received no damage, once their duration bar runs out they die regardless. At the same time the amount of time it takes to create new Broodlings is always the same. The Brood Lord continuously creates new ones in order to replace old ones.
A maximum of two Broodlings can fly along the side of this air unit. Once the Brood Lord attacks these two Broodlings are dispatched first, with subsequent Broodlings being spawned one at a time. Upgrades can increase the armor and attack of the Broodlings. Since during even large battle each Broodling often deals two or more attacks, damage can be improved by choosing to research the Melee Attacks upgrade. The Ground Carapace upgrade is used to increase the armor of Broodlings.
The Brood Lord cannot attack air units and so it is completely defenseless against them. Their weakness however can be mitigated when paired with the correct anti-air support. Also keep in mind that the Brood Lord benefits from the Flyer Carapace upgrades.
Whenever possible Brood Lords should also be used with units such as Infestors. Infestors along with other units are ideal for supporting Brood Lords. As offensive spellcasters, Infestors can damage and hold down a large group of units and it can spawn Infested Terrans to help damage air units. Infestors can help hold off units attempting to kill Brood Lords through the use of Fungal Growth which allows other units to deal with them and it allows Brood Lords to continue engaging enemy forces from a safe distance.
