The World of Warcraft is an online roleplaying game. To be precise, it is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) that allows lots of players from anywhere to play simultaneously as well as interact with each other. The players take a hero's role in a virtual world. Here are a few things that you need to know before you play the game.
Roles or Classes
There are several roles to choose from: rogue, warrior, druid, hunter, monk, paladin, death knight, priest, mage, shaman and warlock. Each has a specific abilities and skills. Other abilities could be learned as you play on. Remember that the character you will choose will determine the race or side you're on – the noble Alliance or the mighty Horde.
While you can play solo in the World of Warcraft, you may also want to try playing with a group. You can choose to be the tank or protector, the damage dealer or the healer depending on the role you will take as an individual player. Some roles such as the rogue or warlock can only be damage dealers. If you have a plan to play various roles in a group context, it is best to choose the druid character. As the tank, it will be your obligation to attract enemies so that the less strong members of the group will be safe. The damage dealers are the ones responsible for damages to the enemies while the healers must keep the other members alive by healing them whenever necessary.
Fights and Quests
The game is centered on fights and quests. You will need to complete quests that will make you deal with non-player or computer-controlled characters. They need your help and your character will usually be in danger to help them. You will also need to engage in player versus player (PvP) fights and go into the dungeons and raids with your group for more action and challenges. You may also fight with players of the opposing race in battlegrounds and arena.
To be successful in fights in the World of Warcraft, you need to be familiar with the place where you will have the quest or fight. For example, the Grim Batol is commanded by red dragons that guard a secret power. You need to know do something to get to the next stage including freeing the dragons that were tied down after clearing at least two trash groups. Plus, you can ride one of the dragons and use its breath as an attack.
