Understanding EGO in Trion Worlds DEFIANCE

It comes to no surprise mmos are slowly dominating the online market in attempts to draw in gamers and potential customers to fund their projects. However, most recently Trion Worlds, the established developer and publishers of po[censored] r games such as RIFT, is turning heads. Trion Worlds has teamed up with SyFy network to bring gamers and sci-fi fanatics a TV show called, Defiance.

Both game and TV will work independently of each other, therefore, gamers are not required to follow one to understand the other. However, it is expected that some events from the mmo will make an appearance in the series. Thus, it is confirmed characters from the series will appear in-game in the form of quest givers.

During the past weeks, Trion invited players to join the beta to test out the game. The Defiance website allowed players to sign up for the beta to parti[censored] te in their latest beta event. In the gameplay footage released by players, the game depicts an intense war between the humans, injected by EGO combating against [censored] bugs. Within the footage, it demonstrates players using their EGO abilities to destroy [censored] bug eggs to retrieve the item inside. Most of it will be some form of alien technology.

The ability layout of Defiance almost mirrors Funcom's The Secret World. The games are set in a modernized setting but features humans with superior abilities. Defiance contains its own set of abilities which are not defined by a skill tree. Instead, the abilities are defined fall into four categories (but one has been revealed so far): Overcharge. Overcharge is the most preferred EGO skill; the skill, as the name implies boosts your damage, instantly reloads your weapon and ultimately help you tackle tough foes. When players use EGO, their arms will glow red giving a momentary boost to quickly defeat the enemy.

As players continue to progress in the game, the game will unlock points which players can use to receive skills and abilities across the EGO board. These are called 'Perks'. Perks allow players to perform extraordinary feats coupling with their main skill, Overcharge, for example. Take Thick Skinned as a sample perk. This perk extends the duration of the active EGO until the player's shield breaks. The perk prolongs the player's survivability in a PvP battle.

When it comes to EGO, there are unlimited possibilities players can choose from; players can use Overcharge as their staple skill and select perks to boost them in battle. Consider these perks as a character's supplements to make the battles more engaging and fun to parti[censored] te in.
