Many girls around the ages of 9 and 10 love to play dress up games .These games can be played during sleepovers, parties, play dates and at home on rainy afternoons. Dressing up allows young girls to exercise their creativity and explore their imaginations. This games are also quite inexpensive, as items can be found around the house and at thrift and discount stores.
Musical Dress Up
In a game suggested on the Diva Girl Parties and Stuff website, fill a large black or green garbage bag with a variety of outrageous clothing items. Toss in oversize shoes and sunglasses, long underwear, floppy hats and any items that the girls will recognize as out of style. Arrange the girls so that they are standing in a circle and pass the bag of items around while playing music, in a similar fashion to musical chairs. When the music stops, the girl with the bag must choose an item without looking inside and put it on. When all of the items have been chosen, take pictures of the girls in their new outfits.
Scavenger Hunt
Choose a wacky outfit and hide the pieces of it throughout the house. Make up a clue and hand it out to individual girls, or teams of girls. This clue will lead to the first article of clothing, such as a glittery shirt, which will hold the clue to find the next item. The girls must continue using the clues to locate items of clothing until the outfit is complete. The first girl, or team of girls, with a completed outfit wins the game. Provide the winner with a small prize, such as a bottle of nail polish or a hair accessory.
Fashion Show
Girls who will be entering their preteen years soon will love playing a dress-up fashion show game. Purchase a wide variety of items from your local discount shop, such as sequined shirts and dresses, high heels and patterned tights. During the slumber party or play date, place the dress-up items in the center of the room. The girls can then look through the items and choose an outfit to dress-up in. Once the girls are all dressed, hold a fashion show and hand out small prizes for things like best outfit and best runway walk.
Fancy Hair
Provide girls with a trunk full of fancy dress-up clothes, such as long dresses, feather boas, costume jewelry, wings and tiaras. Have the children transform themselves into princesses and fairies while you set up a variety of hair supplies. Consider curling irons, hair elastics, bobby pins and accessories such as bows, colored extensions and wigs. Have the dressed-up girls take turns giving one another hair makeovers; teach them how to use a curling iron or how to French braid. Take pictures and vote on which girl has the best hair and outfit.
