How to Play as Star Wars Battlefront Heroes

In Star Wars Battlefront you might feel like the coolest guy in the fight if you get to play as Han Solo for a bit, but that doesn't mean you'll be any use to anyone - unless you know what you're doing, that is. Enter our guide to the Star Wars Battlefront heroes. Read this to get a breakdown of all their abilities, plus tips on how to play well as them and comprehensively drive back those Imperial fascists.

Luke Skywalker Guide - Star Wars Battlefront

What are Luke Skywalker’s Special Abilities?

With his lightsaber young Skywalker has a Heavy Strike, a heavy hitting manoeuvre, and a Saber Rush which springs him forward to attack. He uses his Jedi powers less aggressively with Force Push, which sends anyone caught in it flying backwards.

How to Play Effectively as Luke Skywalker

Like his helmeted and more merchandisable dad, Luke is best as a melee fighter. Remember to use the lightsaber to deflect enemy blasters until you get in close enough - Saber Rush can be good for quickly closing the distance. Heavy Strike to mows enemies down (although it’s worth noting that if Vader and Luke pull this move on each other at the same time they end up in a saber clash, which is really cool the first time it happens).

Force Push is really useful for clearing out defensive pockets of troopers, especially when they’ve formed a wall in front of an objective and the rebel side is having trouble breaking through. Luke isn’t quite as much of a tank as Vader is, but he’s a lot more nimble, so it’s much easier to jump in and out of trouble as you need to.

Han Solo Guide - Star Wars Battlefront

What are Han Solo’s Special Abilities?

Han has a Lucky Shot, which is a charged attack with his blaster that’s good for taking out vehicles and turrets, and a Rapid Fire ability that allows you to fire his weapon as fast as you can without it overheating. True to reckless form Han also comes with a Shoulder Charge, where he basically just runs at whatever is in front of him.

How to Play Effectively as Han Solo

Han is a mid-to-long range character; he doesn’t have any melee abilities and his Shoulder Charge is actually mostly good for getting out of an up close fight if the troopers make it too personal. His Lucky Shot can break through saber blocks, and Rapid Fire can take out a lot of enemies at once without having to move in too far (if you’re accurate enough). He’s still pretty agile, so if you get in a tight spot it’s not too hard to get out of it again. Play Han Solo as he is in the films: a loner with a bit of a devil-may-care attitude.

Leia Organa Guide - Star Wars Battlefront

What are Leia Organa’s Special Abilities?

Leia has an ability called Trooper Bane, which takes out an enemy in a single shot. She has a Supply Drop, similar to Palpatine’s Imperial Resources, and an Enhanced Squad Shield which operates like the regular Squad Shield but more heavy duty.

How to Play Effectively as Leia Organa

Leia is the weakest hero in the sense that she’s easiest to kill, but she’s by no means ineffective. Don’t go in playing her too offensively, or you’ll run into a bit of trouble. Stay at range and use her blaster - the Trooper Bane shot can stun and damage Villain characters. Leia is also really good at setting up defensive positions around objectives. Her Shield protects from force abilities as well as regular damage, and using a few of the Supply Drops in an area can set the rebels up for a good fight. Just be sure you don’t get caught out on your own while you’re playing as her and you should be fine. Yelling "Scruffy-looking nerfherder!” is optional but encouraged.
