Exploring a post-apocalyptic wasteland is no fun alone but thankfully Fallout 4 is full of companions you can take on your journey. This Fallout 4 Complete Companions Location Guide – Where To Find All Companions lists the locations of all companions we’ve discovered so far and the powerful perks you unlock if you reach the highest level of relationship with each companion.

You can raise the relationship level with each of the Companions in Fallout 4, which unlocks special perks that can be hugely beneficial. We’ve also listed all of the special perks available for each of the companions we’ve discovered so far.

Fallout 4 – Companion Locations

Fallout 4 Companion - Dogmeat
The dog is the second companion you will encounter as you progress through the main story. Shortly after you leave Vault 111 you’ll come across the Red Rocket Truck Stop, you’ll find Dogmeat here.
Fallout 4 Companion - Paladin Danse
A member of the dreaded Brotherhood of Steel. A short distance from Diamond City is the Cambridge Police Station, in Boston. Once you speak with Paladin and join his faction, he’ll become available as a companion.
Fallout 4 Companion - Codsworth
A robot with the loyalty of waiting 200 years for your return and spending 10 of those years waxing your atomically stained floor. Codsworth can be found at your own house in Sanctuary Hills.
Fallout 4 Companion - Curie
Located within Vault 81, Curie is another robotic companion.
Fallout 4 Companion - Piper
This feisty young companion is located in Diamond City. She helps you enter the city during the quest chain, speak to her after the quest objectives to make her a companion.
Fallout 4 Companion - Nick Valentine
Nick Valentine is a detective that you encounter during the main quest line. Complete the quest Unlikely Valentine to unlock this companion.
Fallout 4 Companion - Cait
Cait is deadly in combat and fantastic with locks. Head to the combat area within Boston and clear out all the Raiders there, Cait will join you soon after.
Fallout 4 Companion - Deacon
Another companion located off the beaten track. Head to the HQ of the Railroad and check in the Old North Church. He can also help you join a new faction.
Fallout 4 Companion - John Hancock
Check out Scollay Square inside Goodneighbor for a chance to meet John Hancock.
Fallout 4 Companion - MacCready
Another seemingly dodgy contact within Goodneighbor. You need to complete the quest associated with this companion, the Long Road Ahead, to unlock his services.
Fallout 4 Companion - X6-88
Continue through the main story until you reach the Institute location. You can’t miss him so just work your way through the quest.
Fallout 4 Companion - Strong
During the quest Curtain Call there’s a large tower, Trinity Tower, at the top you’ll find Strong locked inside a cell. Release him from his cell to recruit him as a companion.
Fallout 4 Companion - Preston Garvey
Early in the game you’ll come across the town of Concord. There’s a quest there called When Freedom Calls. Complete that to unlock Preston as a companion.

Fallout 4 Companions Special Perks

Paladin Danse Know Your Enemy Special Perk – An extra 20% damage when fighting Synths, Super Mutants and Ferals

Codsworth Robot Sympathy Special Perk – Additional damage resistance, +10%, when fighting against energy weapons

Curie Combat Medic Special Perk – Automatically heal 100 health points if health falls below 10%. Has a long cooldown

Piper Gift of Gab Special Perk – Speech challenges and new location discovery reward experience points increased by 100%

Nick Valentine Close to Metal Special Perk – An extra chance when hacking a terminal and 50% cooldown

Cait Trigger Rush Special Perk – When health drops below 25% action points regenerate at a quicker pace

Deacon Cloak & Dagger Special Perk – Stealth boys duration increased by 40% and an additional 20% damage to sneak attacks

John Hancock Isodoped Special Perk – Critical comes 20% quicker when impacted by 250 rads or more

MacCready Killshot Special Perk – V.A.T.S Headshots increased damage by 20% extra

X6-88 Shield Harmonics Special Perk – Additional damage resistance, +20%, against energy weapons

Strong Berserk Special Perk – An increase in melee weapon damage of 20% when health falls below 25%

Preston Garvey United We Stand Special Perk – +20% to damage and damage resistance when in combat with 3 or more opponents
