Destiny: The Taken King Titan Subclass Quest - The Sunbreaker’s Challenge

This article will show you how to unlock and complete the Sunbreaker’s Challenge, the Titan subclass quest that will unlock the Sunbreaker subclass in Destiny: The Taken King. Before you can begin this quest, you must first complete the Coming War, the first story mission with The Taken King.

Finish the first story mission, the Coming War, and then make your way back to the Tower to speak with Commander Zavala. He’ll give you a quest called the Sunbreaker’s Challenge, which you cannot complete as part of a fire team. This is something you have to do alone, Guardian.

Head to Orbit and look for the quest beacon to be flashing on Venus. Select the option to begin, and work your way through the level while you use your Ghost to navigate. This will bring you to Dig Site 4, which you should recognize as the path that you would commonly take if you were to fight the Nexus. Blast through all of the Vex that stand in your way, facing off against the Ultra Hydra at the end. When that’s done you’ll need to Scan the Conflux, and then wait for the mission to end.

When you return to Orbit, move your cursor to Venus and you should see a quest called Bound by Fire. This will load you into a PvP map that you might recognize. Once you can move around, make your way to the center room at the very back part of the map. Deploy your Ghost as instructed, and then deploy it once more in the second indicated location.

The Sunbreaker Titan is not to be messed with.

This will give you the Sunbreaker subclass for the Titan, and the next few minutes is your opportunity to play around with the super ability, Hammer of Sol. It has a lightning fast recharge rate (just for now), so just toss hammers in every direction, targeting anything that moves. This part is all about getting the chance to play around with it and get a good feel for the controls. When nothing is left alive, you’ll be done this part of the quest.

With the destruction of the Vex complete, head back to Orbit and set a course for the Tower. Once there, speak with Commander Zavala one more time, claiming your Sunbreaker’s Mark at 220 Defense. It isn’t good enough out of the box to get your Light level where it should be, but you can infuse it to bring it up to par.

This will bring the quest to an end. The Hunter Nightstalker and Warlock Stormcaller subclass quests are very similar to this, so we suggest you bang those ones out as well. You might as well have three capable characters for The Taken King, allowing you to complete high level activities up to three times per week. If you need a little help getting those character’s ranks up, we have a guide to get you to Level 40.
